Naked and Afraid on Discovery Channel (1 Viewer)

the dude from this past episode was such a wussy. I cant believe someone who claims to be a survivalist can barely swim, is afraid of every freaking animal and is fat as Bartolo Colon
He seemed to have some legitimate skills, but man, his fear of bugs and snakes and sharks and pretty much every living thing completely crippled him from making a meaningful contribution. Also, the decision to bring goggles instead of a firestarter was dumb and cost them days of wasted labor. Maybe he was confident in his ability to make a fire, but that confidence cost them, especially when he was too afraid to even use the goggles.
The goggles thing was just baffling. It's like he brought goggles for someone else to use but then he was also picky on the types of sea life he'd eat.

Do these reality shows purposely pick ex-military guys who are wimps? I'm sure there are tons of ex-military they could get that wouldn't come off so horribly weak.

Survivor had an ex-marine guy that was a complete ##### as well. I wonder if they do it on purpose or if the real bad ### guys just won't do these shows.

I thought the military dude in the Africa episode was a total badass.

The one who had to go tot he first aid station because of a needle in his foot?

Rambo would have cut it off and stopped the bleeding with fire.

dont think ive seen that one
Maldives island episode.
oh the one where the guy gets sunburnt.. yea.. close competition those two
Hands down the #1 girl yet.

I like rainforest chick also.

I would be extremely paranoid about getting malaria if they told me I was going to be sent to Panama. I wonder if they gave them drugs to help resist such before they went, though I just googled the drugs recommended for Panama and they are both taken in weekly doses, so would only be in their system for 1/3 of the time.

My thesis advisor in grad school had malaria from having worked overseas when he was younger. Had a relapse while I was in school and I just remember thinking how bad that would suck to be stuck with that the rest of your life. So I'm probably a little over sensitive about the risk.

Googles? Worst decision ever. Especially when you're afraid of sea life.

How the heck do you make a lobster pot out of twigs? That was impressive.

I don't know. Google would come in handy if you're searching for types of poisonous spiders or plants that are safe to eat.

One of my new favorite shows. I wouldn't last a day, but do get frustrated with some of the choices they make. Knowing they need food, fire, protection (feet, sunburn, etc)... you'd think they would be prepared to make those things a priority instead of floundering for days on end. And goggles? Come on!

It was nice to see some failure. Although, when your parents name you Puma, you're already set up for it imo...

No doubt. Funny, too, how he couldn't hide his initial disappointment being hooked up with a 6'4" behemoth of a woman.

I like how she was spooning him night 1. He looked like a child next to her.
My wife wondered if he had "movement" when she was spooning him

OK, so did anyone else find the second fire odd? After the medical team came to take Puma away, the girl opts to stay. They show her the next day sitting next to a fire, but never showed her making that fire. That seemed strange to me, considering how hard it was to make their first fire. My conspiracy node tells me maybe they helped her light a fire or gave her a fire-starter in an effort to get her to stay.

Anyway, were these two the lowest PSRs going into the challenge? Considering how inept they were much of the time, I'm surprised they made it as long as they did.

I was surprised her PSR went down even though she didn't complete the challenge. Their methodology has some issues.
Yeah, I don't really get the methodology either. While Puma's PSR dropped, I was expecting it to drop a lot more, since he stupidly drank the water that got him sick. She wasn't great, but she at least didn't drink water that nearly killed her.

Aside from helping build a shelter and making a fire, she didn't seem to have a single survival skill. She even commented on how she studied up for two weeks and nothing she learned had any importance in their environment. I was surprised at her mental toughness. I thought she would fold the second her partner was gone.

Naked and Afraid Uncensored is not uncensored. Anyone want to fire us up the class action suit for false advertising?

It's interesting that at least two women have been crippled by menstrual cramps while out there. Never occurred to me at first that they can't have birth control out there.

birth control? i'm not sure you know how girls work.

the PSR ratings are a joke. sunburn guy and i'm afraid of everything goggles guy should have both gone down.

Birth control pills reduce the intensity of periods and menstrual cramps. Some reduce the frequency of periods. So tell me more about how women work.

I do agree with you on the PSR ratings though. I kind of assumed they were some kind of official thing until last night.

I would hope so. It can be an intense survival show without the females having to spend a day fashioning needed personal items out of treebark and leaves.

Also, I would guess that each person gets to list two "survival" items to bring and the order of preference since everyone would list machete first. I also assume "lighter" or "box of matches" is not allowed.
