NBA BTTF III - Draft Over! War of attrition underway... (1 Viewer)

whats an "ok" amount of mpg for a big in this thing?
Just get to 48 per position.
Just some additional context - If a player averages 30 mpg over a full 82 game schedule, you can obviously plan on getting that 30 mpg in the sim and probably a little more. If that 30 mpg player only plays in 70 games, however, you can still use him in 82 games in the sim but probably only for 25ish mpg without drawing fatigue.

And, to add a little more, you can split their time among multiple positions. If Hydras Hippocrampus plays 82 games and averages 30 minutes per game and has eligibility at both SF and SG you can split his 30 minutes however you need in order to fill position requirements.

Or you can be like me and take guys that played 820 minutes all year and set them to play 48 per game at the wrong position

Usually there's plenty of time to make trades prior to starting the season in order to get your minutes straightened out. If you end up short you'll probably have to trade a good player for two lesser players in order to make it work, but, as Abe's 2-80 season shows, you need to make sure you have the minutes.

Sorry - The Greek Freak - G/F

Changed my pick from the one I should make to the one I want to make. Worried he wouldn't last another 23 picks.
This is who I really wanted when I took butler but I thought he would make it back to me. He could absolutely blow up this year.

He's one of those guys you have to watch. His numbers are very nondescript but then you see him play and wow.

I don't know if this will be the year but he's eventually going to be really, really good.

This is exactly how I felt about Darius Miles for 3 or 4 years. Giannis has all the tools and could be great, and it could happen this year, but I think he's a trap pick. Seems much more likely to me that we'll see incremental progress, which means he's probably shooting for being somewhere around an average player this year.

Miles showed some promise, got shuffled around by a bunch of bad teams and then tore up his knee just when he seemed like was about to turn the corner.

Freakish athleticism isn't a skill, especially in a league full of freakish athletes. It takes some guys longer to translate their tools into NBA skills. It's hard to follow the Bucks because they're never on TV but my read of the Bucks' blogs indicated a lot of Giannis' problems were due to poor decision making. This is understandable because he's played very few top level games. I hope he can learn because he's fun to watch and seems like a good kid.

Darius Miles looked like he was going to break out as a scorer for years but I don't think anybody was looking for him to be an all around force. Giannis is going to be a defensive stud, regardless of if his offense comes around, and he may have the jump shot that Miles never did. Reports are that he grew two inches over the last year, making him 6'11", to go with his insane hands (right at 12" from the bottom of his hand to the tip of his middle finger), and his elite athleticism. If somebody thought he was going to put it all together this year, he would have gone much higher, if he doesn't make a huge jump, he'll still be a decent sim player, but its possible he could turn into Andrei Kirilenko with a jump shot this year.

i remember once anthony randolph had elite athleticism..........
Sadly, they're pretty good comparisons, other than Randolph couldn't shoot. It does seem like Giannis has a better understanding of basketball and has already played half the minutes that Randolph has in his six year career.

Yeah I don't know if Giannis is going to put it all together this year but he's already a better NBA player than Randolph ever was.

Terrence Jones was the other player I considered. Looking at my team he's probably who I should have taken. What can I say, I'm on the Freak train chooooo choooo! (Probably one year too soon)

Miles was compared at times to both Kevin Garnett and Tracy McGrady, so expectations for his all around game were extremely high. On a team that had Lamar Odom, Elton Brand, and Corey Maggette the general feeling was that Miles had the highest ceiling. His first year production did nothing to dampen those expectations either. My original point was really that even though his numbers right out of high school were pretty good, he did things on a basketball that really made your jaw drop when you watched him. Unfortunately his game just really never developed.

I'm not really even critical of the pick, he was clearly getting picked somewhere in the round 4-5 range so if you wanted him this was where he had to be taken. He also plays a position that is particularly weak, which is why I was willing to roll the dice on Gallo. It's just a different type of risk.

These athletic hooper comparisons are missing one thing imo. Giannis handles the ball better than AR or Miles ever could. He played some point guard in the summer league at 6'11" and apparently has been working a lot with Gary Payton. He's got a body like Durant with more hustle off the ball and on defense, but without the killer jumper.

He's super fun to watch and it definitely will be interesting to see how much he can progress.

The one thing you're missing about Giannis, is he can't act like this.

A lot of talk about Kidd playing him at PG this year. Will definitely be interesting to watch.

Wasn't he in some college movie about cheating on tests or something too?

The Perfect Score. I actually saw it for some reason, turns out I was about the only one. It made $10 million on a $40 million budget. It was pretty bad.
