*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (11 Viewers)

To win the west (sportsbook.ag):

San Antonio Spurs +250

Golden State Warriors +300

Oklahoma City Thunder +500

Los Angeles Clippers +650

Memphis Grizzlies +800

Dallas Mavericks +1000

Houston Rockets +1200

Portland Blazers +1200
OKC at +500 feels a bit steep for a team who's currently sitting on a losing record and on the bubble of making the playoffs. Getting healthy though... and on a 6 game win streak, so maybe not TOO inflated?

Spurs at +250...

Multiple power ranking / predictive sites have Portland Trailblazers as the overhwhelming 2nd most likely team to win the West. Does this reflect reality? Hollinger / Basketball Reference. Does Portland present value at 12-1?

Chartball is an interesting site....
I think the prevailing wisdom amongst the smart NBA analysts is that Portland won't be good enough on defense come playoff time, but who knows. 1-8 will all have a shot in the West, lotta rock paper scissor stuff going on.

I will be shocked if the Thunder don't make the playoffs. I think they can get as high as five. They are only half a game out of 8th place right now. I am more worried about the Pelicans than the Suns. I have too much free time but I went through the schedule the other day and there are 50 pretty easy wins in there and they could easily get 55+. They'll get destroyed @ Golden State on Thursday though, Durant is still sorta rusty. Westbrook on the other hand is just murdering people. If they stay healthy, come playoff time I believe this will be the best team they've had since the franchise moved to OKC.

brohan after the bucks beat up on the heat twice they saw the future coming and decided to tank it take that to the bank bromigos

if the thunder make the playoffs it will make the bucks beating them even that much more impressive just kidding moe brohan i know that your team was a wounded mess take that to the bank bromigo just yanking your chain a little

I'm not a big Kobe fan, but don't the struggles of younger guys like Wade, Rose and many who are out of the league altogether make Kobe's accomlishments more impressive.

Are you guys all doing Daily Fantasy Games?
I gave it a try last year because I had some success with football, I lost like $50 over a few days and decided to stick to football.
I like the daily NBA. I find it way easier than NFL for some reason.
Fantasy Baseball: hardcore

Fantasy Football: hardcore

Fantasy Basketball: That's a thing?

I know nothing about basketball, my little brother does it, and was doing well, he was just doing it wrong. He was entering a bunch of tournaments, and was always in the top 30%, cashing enough to be in the black, but barely.

I take his plays, and do 50/50s, some triple ups, and a few tourneys for fun.

9 plays last night in 50/50, double ups, triple ups, but mostly 50/50. Cashed in all but one. Wagered 45, won 85.

And it's every day.
I wager way less, but do the same type of mix. 50/50 & Double/Triple Ups mostly. The tournaments are longshots. I did hit 4th once though.

No one is saying Kobe hasn't had a great career. But he is historically overrated and has not been very good for a while.

The Kings just fired Mike Malone. Ty Corbin taking over as interim coach.
What a load of ####### hogwash. They were 9-6 with Cousins (now 2-7 without).

The Kings have fired head coach Mike Malone, with assistant Tyrone Corbin taking over as the interim coach.

Malone reportedly "didn't meet win-loss expectations of ownership," after the Kings fell to 11-13 without DeMarcus Cousins for the past nine games. Corbin will be "afforded [the] chance" to coach the Kings all year, and he's expected to be push the team's pace at the insistence of owner Vivek Ranadive and GM Pete D'Alessandro. In addition, Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Vinny Del Negro may be a long-term candidate for the position.
Can't wait for Vivek to take over coaching next season. It could happen.
I feel like I called this when the Stauskas videos came out. That bald guy must be making a ton of money to give up his pride.

I didn't think the draft video in isolation was necessarily damning of Vivek's management style but the puzzle pieces are starting to fit now.

Oh bull####. In the entire time I've been in this forum, there's some people saying exactly that. I've never seen a great athlete attacked as much as Kobe Bryant. Never. And the main culprit here is a Toronto Raptors fan, of all things. It's basically jealousy.

I could link about 80% of your entire contribution to this thread. You've done nothing but demean Kobe, and you've gone back through his entire career to do it. I think it's mainly because the 81 was scored against the Raptors.

I'd love to see the link where I said he had a bad career, since apparently I said "exactly that". Unless of course, you're just talking out of your ### again.

I really only get to closely watch my team play the Clips once a year so I always forget how eminently hate-able they are. The absolute worst. It sucks because I want so much to like them, given the Sterling garbage they had to deal with and their fans who've suffered for decades in the shadow of the Lakers and all that, but ugh. That roster.

Do the Western Conference teams/fans all despise them?

Chris Paul is the modern John Stockton in terms of dirty play. People say Blake gets a bad rap but anecdotally it seems like he's flopping and whining a lot. Barnes is another one of the dirtiest guys in the league. I don't think you are off base.

Chris Paul, Matt Barnes and Blake Griffin have always been extra hateable, and they haven't gotten any more likeable with Redick. Paul is probably the biggest flopping cry baby in the league, and he has plenty of competition for that award.

As a Thunder fan in Oklahoma, even living in Blake's hometown, I hate the Clippers more than any other NBA team.

They whine about every call/noncall and just play dirty constantly.

The Wiz have some talkers and complainers (Nene is an all-timer), but Wall and Beal are not among them. So when Wall gets T-ed up for complaining about a call- video showed Paul locking up his arm and dragging him down- and Beal makes postgame comments about how much the Clippers complain and cheap shot, you know it's something special.

Barnes also got a fine for cursing and throwing a water bottle at a fan Friday night, so that was a nice closing touch.

When a UNC fan like me thinks JJ Redick is the most likeable guy in your rotation it's a problem.

They always say it's a sprain until they do an MRI and discover it's an ACL tear.

A tear is just a second degree sprain.

Would you agree that there is a lot that makes Kobe unlikeable?

You actually think Raptors fans are jealous of the Lakers and Kobe?? I've never been a hater of you, Tim, but you are truly ignorant of Toronto if you believe that. We don't care that he dropped 81 against the team many years ago...that's just something the media likes to mention once in a while and Kobe lovers often bring up. And there are tons of people who love Kobe in this city - I would say significantly more than Lebron.

People attack Kobe because he brings it upon himself by the way he plays and acts. His fans love him for that, and most other people who know that he's not as good as he purports to be (or the media often suggests) dislike him for the same reasons.

The team you cheer for is better than the team I cheer for, man I wish I was you. Your life must be awesome.

Kobe falls in the same boat as Melo. They are elite players with flaws and when fans try to praise them they are quickly reminded of the player flaws by other fan bases. Its crazy that a guy like Love, Bosh (Toronto days), Anthony Davis etc. can play for small market teams and be adored without mention of their flaws. For as much as everyone wants to rip on Melo and call him a loser he took a perennial loser in the Nuggets and turned them into a perennial playoff team in the West in his FIRST year something Love, Anthony Davis couldn't do. Dont get me wrong I think Anthony Davis is the future of the NBA but his lack of success should at least be mentioned when Melo is damned for his lack of his success with the Knicks. I realize the West is much harder than the East but Anthony Davis actually has a supporting cast while Melo has cast offs.

The big difference is that they seem to be pretty good people.

And Bosh, along with Carter before him, was constantly ripped by fans and media in Toronto just like Derozan is now.
