DISCLAIMER: I hate the NBA. Least favorite of the big 4 sports. Fan of the Bird-era Celtics growing up in Boston, but the NBA product has sucked for the last couple decades IMO. I have some cash on the Grizz this year, and they've got some buzz as a local team, so I'm halfway following them. Outside that, I'm no fan of the sport. Pretty much everything I say in this thread is joking/shtick.

Probably a good idea to inject some humor into your joking/shtick in that case. Also strange that you're spending time in a thread about a league you hate.

Kobe falls in the same boat as Melo. They are elite players with flaws and when fans try to praise them they are quickly reminded of the player flaws by other fan bases. Its crazy that a guy like Love, Bosh (Toronto days), Anthony Davis etc. can play for small market teams and be adored without mention of their flaws. For as much as everyone wants to rip on Melo and call him a loser he took a perennial loser in the Nuggets and turned them into a perennial playoff team in the West in his FIRST year something Love, Anthony Davis couldn't do. Dont get me wrong I think Anthony Davis is the future of the NBA but his lack of success should at least be mentioned when Melo is damned for his lack of his success with the Knicks. I realize the West is much harder than the East but Anthony Davis actually has a supporting cast while Melo has cast offs.

The big difference is that they seem to be pretty good people.

And Bosh, along with Carter before him, was constantly ripped by fans and media in Toronto just like Derozan is now.

We've had plenty of discussion of Love's flaws as well.Davis is supremely overrated as a defender. There, I said it.

Not the first time I've heard this. Is it possible that defense at the NBA level takes even longer to learn than offense? Obviously it's different with a PG but when I look at our local Kentucky one-and-done #1 overall pick the development on the defensive end is overwhelming. The offense actually came around maybe two years ago, the elite defense only in the last year or less.

I think defense is unquestionably harder to learn and it's obviously still early for him. But, for example, the guys on the Starters were making the case he should DPOY this year which I think is rushing things quite a bit.

Davis is obviously an elite shot-blocker, but there are areas for improvement on that end, including post defense and rotations. The potential is clearly there to be great. I probably would have had Bogut as the frontrunner for DPOY, at least until he got hurt.

Offensively, Davis has advanced since his rookie season more than I expected. He is providing tremendous production and efficiency considering the offense is not being run through him.

I wouldn't put up a fight if someone said he was one and Curry was two.

Curry is hands down the best shooter in the NBA. The difference between him and Korver is how they get their 3s. I would guess that the majority of Korver's threes come off of pin downs, hand offs, and catch and shoot situations where Curry gets all of that but he also takes handfuls of shots off the dribble. There has probably never been a better three point shooter off the dribble in the history of the NBA.
