*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (10 Viewers)

Where are all the haters who suggest getting the ball to Durant for the "hero shot" is the wrong play?
With one second left you try to get it to your shooter who you know can get up a shot even if he ends up being well defended. Durant being 6'9" or whatever with a 9 foot wing span and a nice jump shot is definitely that guy for the Thunder.

Timberwolves were close but no cigar AGAIN tonight...although I was at that game against the Heat, and I think I'll give the MVP award to the referees. They missed 2-3 terrible calls that went in the Wolves favor too! However, I don't think I've watched a basketball game where star players got "the star treatment" worse than I saw tonight. Even a guy a few seats over in a Heat jersey asked his buddy: "when did the NBA become the WWF?" Referring to the fix being on. Anyway, despite it all the Wolves had a chance to win it at the buzzer. That, and Rubio looked fantastic tonight. He was the conduit that made the offense work...and at one point, the Heat put LeBron and two other defenders on him to try and shut him down. Rubio made a couple bad passes/turnovers. But I can see now, after watching him in-person for the first time, why folks are so excited about him. He's the real deal...and in his 3rd-4th NBA game and only 21 years of age, he's directing traffic on the court and moving teammates around to maximize their scoring potential as good as most long-term vets I've seen. Exciting time to be a Timberwolves fan again...finally. They just need to go from "close" and "competitive" to hanging games in the win column.

Chicago is impressive. They put the clamp down on the Clippers and ran away in the 4th quarter.
I didn't get to see the game, but looks like Rose tried to make a statement going against Paul. 29, 16 and 8 with great %'s? I'd say message was sent.
Every year Rose begins the season trying to adjust to his new situation. This year he looked like he wanted to help Rip and a healthy Boozer get looks in the flow of the offense instead of dominating the ball. The last preseason game was a clinic in ball movement. Of course, while the ball movement is huge for them season, Rose does have to take the offense over from time to time when the movement becomes stagnant. This season will be interesting since he has to learn when to pick his spots to dominate but also learn when to just keep the ball moving. That happened last night, he just took over for stretches of the game. I am sure the matchup with Paul didn't hurt.It was interesting to watch the craftiness of Paul versus the pure athletic domination of Rose. Paul played well with some beautiful dishes but the major difference was Rose getting to the hoop and the line. When you sift through all the picks each defender had to fight through and depend on teammates to help with their man, there were still no chance Paul was staying in front of Rose (aside from a couple successful reach ins). Some Bulls thoughts after the first trip of the season...Rip is a huge upgrade offensively as he draws defensive attention in every area of the floor instead of just Bogans in the corner. He also gets an easy bucket or two a game on fast break run outs unlike any player Rose has played with. However, he hasn't been the most efficient offensive player without getting to the line at all and he is a clear downgrade defensively so far. Brewer looks like a different player offensively. Of course it is in very small stretches, but he has confidently took and hit jumpers and 3's. You wonder if he can keep up the consistent jumpers. If so, he should take more and more of Rip's minutes.Gibson is lost. His rookie season he played defense and hit 15 footers. Last year the jumper disappeared but he added some offensive moves and became an elite defender. So far this year, he is turning the ball over a ton and not hitting the jumper. Those clamoring for Gibson starting over Boozer are not watching the games this year.

Regarding Rubio, he looked poised and obviously sees the court well. Late in the game when the Heat started giving him extra attention he tried to force too many difficult passes but he was still able to make some nice plays and rough contact didn't seem to faze him. It looks like his scoring will be limited to hitting the open shot for now. Though they have enough offensive threats so that he shouldn't need to do a lot of scoring on his own. He's far from a finished product but his current game fits well with the team. Also, his quickness and length (6'4") bode well for his defense. He won't look this good every game, but I'll enjoy watching him this season. The offense was flat when he wasn't in.

Mavs finally win, but yet again their opponent has a nice game offensively. The Raptors are limited offensively yet somehow shot a decent percentage. Their overall percentage was about 45 percent, but not until the Mavs finally started playing defense with about 3 minutes to go in the 3rd and trailing by 7 points. AT least they got the win, now maybe they can start to focus more.

Clippers were actually playing a makeshift triangle zone at the top of the key trying to cut off Derrick's lanes to the basket... every time they showed that look he still got past Paul and was able to dish to Korver/Rip/Brew standing at the 3pt line. Dominant performance from Rose yesterday on both ends of the floor, I thought he played great defense on Paul for the majority of the game.MVP chants at Staples were a nice touch as well.

After 4/5 games I don't see any team in the west who can beat Heat/Bulls in a best of 7 for the title.
Lakers lost to the Bulls on a last second shot in their first game with a new coach, new offense, and w/o their starting center. I absolutely love Rose's game and think that the Bulls are the 2nd best team in the NBA right now, but it's too early to write off the entire West after the first week of the season.

Thunder absolutely could. It wouldn't shock me to see a healthy Lakers or Mavs team do it. If the Clippers had any frontcourt depth whatsoever, they'd have a good shot too. Hopefully, they can make a deal. And let's not forget the Rockets and their 3 HOF players that they desperately want to trade away.

If you're a gambling man, take a lot of unders in Raptor games. When Bargnani has a bad night they are in real trouble offensively. They got a combined 2 points from the SF spot with Johnson/Forbes/Butler. Terrible.

Yeah, they saw a lot of that bracketed defense against Rose at the end of last year. Hopefully, the Bulls can handle it as well as they did last nigh.

So I'm watching the Knicks game.....Mike Bibby and Carmelo palm the ball every dribble. When did they get rid of the palming rule?

I can't wait for the rockets to put the lakers out of the first round this year.

Shtick?

Frustrating loss for Denver. Gallo blows a breakaway layup with less than a minute to go that would have brought the Nugs within one. However, add in Nene's missed slam and the missed FTs all within the last 2:30 and LA barely wins, Denver should feel okay about their chances today.

The Northwest Division is just stacked...

I agree with your comments on Rip. It's interesting that his field goal attempts have increased each game: 8-12-15-18. It's clear he still trying to figure out how best to play with Rose in this offense. Hopefully we'll see him draw more fouls in the future -- he's done that historically.Practically the only difference between Boozer so far this season and the Boozer in last year's playoffs is that he's making his outside shots and fadeaways better (yet his PER so far is only 12). He's still playing matador defense and he hasn't gotten to the line. At this point in his career, he's an average PF earning a premier salary. I'm not advocating Taj starting for him, but I sure hope Taj gets a decent share of the PF minutes -- particularly against teams with strong big men.

Rodman coaching topless basketball team

Former NBA star Dennis Rodman is returning to basketball. But this time it's as a coach – and the team's roster is made up of topless women. The Hall of Fame forward is starting a topless team for Headquarters Gentlemen's Club in New York. Rodman got the idea after rival club Rick's Cabaret launched a topless basketball league with the help of former NBA slam dunk champ Spud Webb. He plans on challenging the Rick's team to a charity game."I don't know too many men that don't like a good-looking woman running up and down around the court," Rodman told reporters. He plans on holding tryouts at the strip club, looking for girls 5-foot-10 or taller.

No doubt in my mind Denver will be much tougher to beat at home. But yesterday's game should not have been that close. The Lakers attempted 24 3-pointers; they made 2 of them. They're not going to win a lot of games with that kind of percentage.

My point really wasn't that Boozer has been tremendous so far. It is more that Taj has been a mess offensively so far. I hope that he settles down and makes it obvious that the Bulls should start him.

MN is a nice looking team. Really deep and Rubio is doing much better than anyone imagined so soon.

Probably couple years away from doing damage (assuming Rubio/Derrick Williams progress), but they've gathered some nice pieces there.

Meh.... Love and Rubio are about the only long term players I like on Minny right now. I'm not a believer in Williams or W. Johnson.

W. Johnson has been in Adelman's doghouse so far this year. Not sure why, but when Rubio is in, Tolliver and/or Ellington are in the game. Haven't really seen Johnson on the floor with Rubio much this year. As for Williams, I like what I've seen so far. At the Heat game on Friday night, Williams showed little/no fear on the offensive end. On defense? He drew LeBron (if you heard the fan yelling "HELP!" while LeBron had the ball, that was me...lol). But he looked pretty good with/without the ball on Friday night, and had Rubio been a half-second faster on his reads/progressions on a couple of trips down the court, Williams would have had a certain #6 in the bottom of his poster as he went up to rock the rim. ;)Not saying guys will be all-stars or anything. Love's the only all-star of the bunch (and I suppose Rubio has a chance in a couple seasons too). But if Love and Rubio are Love and Rubio, the other 13 guys don't need to be all-stars. Just hit your open jumpers, play some solid D, and move well with/without the ball.
