*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (5 Viewers)

SVG is one of the best coaches in the league. Why throw the baby out with the bathwater?
I imagine a lot of it has to do with #12.
I think he sealed his own fate when he went to the media and said people in the FO told him Dwight wanted him gone.
I'm thinking he knew that and is glad to be gone. He either gets a paycheck to do nothing or gets a new gig for a team of his choice. Win/win for him - I doubt he was interested in ushering in the Bynum era.

I'm starting to hate Dwight Howard more then usual.

This fake drama crap is annoying ; trade him to LA already.

On potential game-tying and go-ahead shots in the final 24 seconds, Durant is now 10-23 (43.5 pct) this season, including his make in Game 4. On those same shots, Kobe Bryant is 3-18 (16.7 pct) this season. Durant now has three such shots this postseason, tied for the most in the last 15 playoffs (Ben Gordon & Ray Allen, 2009).
Interesting. Guess Kobe can't handle the pressure, right matuski?

This Magic season was so comically awful that there was no choice but to just burn it all down and rebuild it. I'm very happy Otis is gone. Almost gleefully happy.
Russillo and Van Pelt more or less savaged Smith on radio todayapparently he has a league-wide reputation as a "do nothing" GM. not showing up at workouts, etc. a guy in over his head that didn't pull himself out of the hole.not following Magic basketball i had no idea. was pretty funny to hear them hammer him like that.

I'd like to hear that. He totally disregarded the draft process. Ex-scout of his said he's never seen a GM pay so little attention to the draft.

According to basketball-reference.com, from the start of the 2001 season through last weekend, Kobe is 48-for-162 (.290) on shots to tie or take the lead with 24 seconds or fewer left in the 4th quarter or OT. That breaks down to 42-for-138 (.304) in the regular season, and 6-for-24 (.250) in the playoffs.
That's pretty awesome. Kobe has hit about 4 game winners per year since 2001. I'm sure there's nobody even close. And, if there is, I doubt those teams were as good as the Lakers, so those clutch baskets weren't nearly as important.

The pressure certainly exists for Kobe. You keep almost getting it. The right question is whether he handles it better than... say a bench player on his team?

Careful. You are going to piss off the Kobe hating faction here.

The Kobe haters around here amaze me. We're talking about one of the greatest players of all time, a guy with 5 championship rings, who continues to play at an extraordinary high level, and you guys don't want to give him any credit whatsoever. Sure he makes mistakes, but so what? Every elite player is going to make mistakes. There are very few guys I would want more on my team.

And as far as Kobe ripping Gasol, I love Gasol, but Gasol deserves to be ripped for Saturday night's effort. Gasol played 39 minutes, same as Kobe. Kobe had 7 rebounds and Gasol had 3. 3! 3 rebounds for a 7 footer. That's inexcusable. Jordan Hill played 13 minutes, and he had 8 rebounds.

Kobe comes to play every night. He tries hard every night. Gasol doesn't. Gasol takes time off, sometimes whole games off. Gasol is soft at times, that's just the way he is. When Gasol got the ball at the end of the game, he didn't want it. He didn't attempt to turn toward the basket, he didn't make any moves at all, he just passed it as quickly as possible. Reminded me of the way Chris Webber used to play on Sacramento. During crunch time, Webber never wanted the ball either. Rip Kobe all you want but, just like Durant, he always wants the ball. Give me a guy who always wants the ball.

Please tell me who exactly wants to give him no credit for anything. Give me specific names.Gasol deserve to be ripped for Saturday night's effort? Okay, but so did Bryant for his major gaffs that cost him Games 2 and 4. Would you have been okay with Gasol or another Laker calling him out for either of those games?

Doubt it since he is below the league average in those situations

Perhaps this season, but please acknowledge his unparalleled success over the last 10 years. I am at least acknowledging your efforts, you seem to prefer death over admitting the slightest positive nod in Kobe's direction. :lmao:

The hate is strong with you.

eta - My first comment on the topic regarded both Lebron and Kobe. Telling that you all but ignored my preference for Lebron but can't let go my preference for Kobe over Blake. Hilarious.

:P I'm not naming names. You know who you are. And there's a difference between Kobe's gaffes in games 2 and 4- he was exhausted out there. The rest of the team was standing around, expecting him to bail them out, and he couldn't do it. But at least he tried. At least he wanted the ball.

http://espn.go.com/espnradio/play?id=7956538maybe not as bad as i remembered but not very friendly either

Why not make SVG getting ####-canned contingent upon DH re-upping? If two of your team's best assets are incompatible, I realize you have to save the more valuable one...but at least make sure you're saving the valuable one.

Howard's already made 1 dumb contractual move in the last 3 months, I'm sure Magic ownership tried to pull another over on him. Maybe he listened to his agent this time.

Kobe is one of the 5 best to ever grace the Association. How can anyone deny that? Are people really not thinking is one a top 5 of all time?Really? And Gasol is soft soft soft.

He might be top 10, but he's not top 5. He's not even the best player of his generation; that would be Tim Duncan.

Everyone but you and jmon
Oh come on. Kobe not top 5 of all time? Man. I am an old school NBA guy too. This guy is insane. 1) Michael2) Wilt3) Russell4) Magic/Bird/Dr J5) KobeHe is right there with those studs.
Yeah I guess if you count three people at four he is top five.
I can't decide between those three....as all three were that good. But I would pick him over Dr J and Bird if asked to draft a team. Kobe is one of the greatest ever.Period.And I am far from a Laker fan.

How do you know they haven't? They're not going to announce that the same day the guy gets fired.

Dwight Howard is gone from the Magic, they might as well trade him now.

What a complete fool he is.

I wonder what the Magic can get for him at this point. I think the key for them is to dump one of their horrid salaries along with Howard. They can take back a 1 year horrible salary and some young player(s) and draft pick(s).

Where's Kareem?

Jordan, Russell, and magic are the top 3. Then Kareem. Dr j, wilt, and bird are the next three. Then Duncan. Then Kobe. Kobe has the misfortune of having only two rings when he was his teams best player. If ducan wins this year I don't see how he isn't unarguably ahead of Kobe. I think he already is and I hate the spurs.

Bad call on Artest but that's one of the consequences of being an unstable lunatic, you're not gonna get the benefit of the doubt in those situations. He made his bed.

Artest is a joke. That was a pretty blatant shove on Thabo that the announcers were calling "just a little lower body contact."
