Lowe (or simmons) used SMith as an example of one of the few players who could be a B+ big man on both ends of the floor, meaning he will get a max. They made the point that so few 4s and 5s can do a good job on D and O that the ones who are above average get paid.Nope you didn't misinterpret.
There's a reason ATL has no intention of re-signing Josh Smith. The guy hasn't improved {regressed more than anything] and continues to take his mind boggling contested 20 footers. Someone will pay him a huge contract (really wouldn't shock me if he got near max from someone]. The guy isn't a good 1st or 2nd option on a good team.

I agree he'll get paid. I just think it's a terrible investment giving him the max. I think he's slightly above average on both ends.
And if he's given the freedom to do what he's done the last 7-8 years in ATL, the team won't be more than a quick exit playoff team.

Oh my. They need to sign Josh Smith, Nick Young and Andray Blatche then hire D'Antoni. That would be the most individually talented team in the league. Damn that would be fun to watch.
ETA: I'm sure they could get Artest for peanuts as well.

I'd spend far far less on someone like Blatche then to pay Josh Smith $15+ mil/year. Obviously you have potential character issues with Blatche, but you've also got as good of scorer,rebounder and defender that can play the 4 or 5 with a ton of additional cap space to sign a very good piece.

Baffling to me that anyone that watched Josh Smith this year thinks he's a max guy. I think the Hawks would have been just as good w/o him this year. In an lackluster offseason where someone like OJ Mayo will be a hot commodity, I get thinking Smith is one of the better available guys. I just don't get substantially overpaying the guy for that reason.

Lee's an absolute liability on defense. Smith may be inconsistent on that end but he's a ton better than Lee. If GS and MEM move on, GS should tell Lee to take his time getting better because Randolph would steal his lunch money. Better off going small and forcing Randolph to guard quicker perimeter guys like Barnes if Memphis wants to keep their two bigs on the floor.

And when you call Blanche and Lee an equal to Smith on the defensive end it makes you look like you have no idea what you are talking about. I do have a feeling that you are coming off that way because you do in fact have no idea what you are talking about.

Yes there's no question about that. Anyone that's looked at who is available this offseason realizes that.
Not exactly the best offseason to have cap space. (Unless you believe Dwight/Paul are leaving, which I don't tend to believe)

Back in Milwaukee.
If for no other reason I don't expect them to find a better PG over the offseason. Bring him back with his qualifying tender and use this offseason and next to look for a replacement if you don't want long term. I don't see many readily available PG's (upgrades) via trade either.
Tough position for Milwaukee to be in. Fringe playoff/lotto team looking for an upgrade at a position where their are very few available at that position in the draft/trade market. Trade market you're probably look at the much older Luke Ridnour/Jameer Nelson's of the world

I'd have given it to Morey. Got a superstar in Harden. I questioned how Asik would transfer to a full-time role, but it couldn't have turned out better. Lin could come back to haunt next year with his cap figure. Royce White was a bust. Overall, no question this team is better in present and future. Robinson move on surface could pay off, only time will tell there. They didn't give up much there so even if it doesn't work out it won't be a back breaking move for the franchise.

What's Houston's take on Robinson so far? I found it interesting he couldn't get any run despite their PF issues. That coupled with Robinson not looking like much of a talent in Sacramento, plus Patterson playing pretty well with the Kings, makes me think that maybe trade wasn't the fleecing I initially thought it was (although it is still way too early to make any definitive statements on Robinson).The Denver GM got executive of the year. They tried him as an energy big for about a dozen games and he clearly was athletic enough to run in transition. But he couldn't guard other fours well and didn't rebound well enough to keep the job over Greg smith, who is a center they moved to power forward out of rebounding desperation. It was amazing that they had the leagues second best rebounder and still got owned on the glass because the power forward couldn't board.What's Houston's take on Robinson so far? No love for Knicks Grunwald? He replaced Renaldo Balkman, Mike Bibby, Baron Davis, Jeremy Lin, Toney Douglas, Landry Fields, Josh Harrelson, Jared Jeffries, and Bill Walker into Chris Copeland, Raymond Felton, Jason Kidd, Kenyon Martin, Pablo Prigioni, and Marcus Camby/Rasheed Wallace. Improved winning percentage from .545 to .659.

i am ready for the bulls and heat game tonight i bet that the refs will lock it down and call fouls on everything even close early on and not let it get out of hand like the other night if i am the heat i am going to the hole constantly because i think the game will be called tight and if you get some bulls in foul trouble they have to bring in the guy who sells beers on the second deck and if i am the bulls i am going to just defend the hell out of the heat and try to get in to there heads like they did in game one and hope the threes do not fall that is the swc breakdown take that to the bank brohans

I think Ujiri got it for more of a three year achievement than what he did this season. The only player that was on the roster when Carmelo was trade was Ty Lawson and something like 11 of the players on the roster can be traced back to that trade. Trading for Iguodala with Afflalo and scraps was a pretty nice trade as well. Really since he took over, everything he's touched has turned into gold.The Denver GM got executive of the year. I really don't think he'll get a max deal, hes shot awfully the last two seasons and hes a bit of a headache in the locker room. Where are his likely landing spots? Houston, back in Atl, maybe Charlotte and New Orleans? I think Morey is smart enough to avoid paying him $80 million or whatever, Atlanta doesn't want him back enough to pay him that much, New Orleans doesn't really need another PF, so that leaves Charlotte as the only team that I could see giving him a max deal, and I suppose it makes sense. Jordan has no idea what hes doing, I think Smith may even be a Jordan shoe guy, they'll have gobs of money once the amnesty Ty Thomas, and they desperately need some talent.

I rewound and watched it a bunch of times, he definitely adds a little unnecessary theatrical flail at the end while he is falling back. Not that I'm defending Nazr- that was just ridiculous and has no place in the game.

I'm saying he made the fall more dramatic than it had to be. Flop was probably the wrong word. Lets just say I don't think Charles Oakley flies backward 15 feet there. (Btw Lebron and Nazr are the same weight).
