I'll admit the league is a little more fun when aging stars like Kobe aren't hurt.
While it's been popular to kick dirt on Kobe's grave the past 6-8 months, remember that he averaged 27, 5, and 6 last year. Guy is still a monster.
It certainly doesn't hurt your PPG average when you're taking 96% of your team's shots

I just wanted to say the trolling thread titles over the years have been top notch. Probably the reason for 95% of the posts (otherwise who watches the NBA October through April?), well done Cliff.
:goodposting:

Cliff doing the Lord's work with the thread titles.
lol...Kobe/Lakers fans flock to this thread like a moth to a flame and say the same complaints every time. Its awesome.

The bait hasn't changed for years yet they just can't control themselves.
 Who's kidding whom? I started a "love Kobe" thread last year and you haters all flocked to it. You guys are the ones who can't control yourselves, not us Kobe fans.

That thread was pretty awesome. TGunz threw a tantrum and put me on ignore.

Got any evidence to support that, or just making stuff up as usual?

Pretty pissed that Kobe couldn't get over 16.5 points last night.

Also, neat offense where you have Kobe with the ball and Pau standing like 6 feet away looking for the pass.

Yeah, last night was rough. Kobe was very rusty and Pau looked awful. On top of that Pringles decided to pull Henry when he had led a nice comeback. Stupid.

Does any of this matter? The Lakers aren't making the playoffs. And if they do, they're a quick out. Either way, they're not good enough to be relevant this year, and they're not bad enough to have a real shot at a franchise changing rookie (unless they're supremely lucky.)

This is all about next year, and can they sign a superstar free agent to make Kobe's last hurrah interesting? If so, then we've got something to talk about. If not, we're looking at several years of rebuilding.

I think you could end up being pleasantly surprised there.

The best you can hope for in re: another superstar is Melo, LeBron is never going to LA. And even a team with Melo, Kobe and a bunch of scrubs isn't going to be that good, much less interesting, much less a contender.

Li'l Buss already nuked any type of rebuild for two more years by signing Kobe to that ridiculous extension. I'm not even saying they should dump him, but at least wait until he comes back and then pay him something in the neighborhood of market value.

Instead of Melo, I really wish little Buss could've been talked into Gay.

He couldn't have completed his quest to be the 4th person in NBA history with a 30+% usage rate and a sub 40% FG% there, but it would've been awfully fun to see him try.

I just recently realized that the Nuggets have the Knicks unprotected 1st round pick this year. How ironic will be if the Knicks continue to spiral, Melo gets traded out of his beloved NY and the Nuggets end up with a top 3 pick in the draft this year?

Oh, did I say ironic? I meant Freaking Awesome!

When the Nuggets first started winning this season I got a little upset, until I noticed that the Knicks were playing awful. Unfortunately, the Knicks will probably go from god awful to just regular old bad if Chandler ever comes back. I suspect the Nuggets will still get a lottery pick, but its not going to be a top 5 pick like us Nuggets fans would hope.

Gay is to be the stretch four? whoa.
He's played the 4 a bunch this year when the matchup allowed... or when it didn't. It didn't matter to Casey. Calling him a stretch 4 is a little off since, you know, he can't shoot.
"The current version of Gay is basically a harmful player. He used 30 percent of Toronto’s possessions with a shot, turnover, or drawn foul — a gargantuan usage rate reserved for the league’s biggest scoring stars. He’s also shooting 38.8 percent for the season. That is a historically rare combination of shot chucking and brick laying. Only three players in league history have used more than 30 percent of their team’s possessions while shooting below 40 percent: Jerry Stackhouse, Baron Davis, and Allen Iverson (twice)."

Just sayin' somebody needs to find something else to kneel to other than Bryant's stat lines.

So DeMarcus Cousins is pretty good. Of course, Dallas is also making Derrick Williams look like someone who was a top 2 pick in the NBA draft, so they are probably just having a rough night.

Gay will be along shortly to gum up the works.
Gay is going to be so miserable watching cousins and Thomas take all the shots that he is going to preemptively decline his player option for next year by the all star break.

...

Maybe?

Only way Sacto is getting around that thing is offering him a huge deal to replace it. I think his market is toast right now.

Charlotte somehow outscored the Dubs tonight.
Pretty big win.
I believe that is the first win for Charlotte against a team with a winning record
That is hard to do this year for any team with the East being so bad.
True. Celtics were probably the 2nd best win, and that's not as bad as it sounds. They're solid.

It's been about as good a 5-game stretch as a Bobcat fan could hope for. 3-2 with the 2 losses being road games where they choked away a late lead, including one to the Heat.

Do the Bobcats make the playoffs? From what little I've seen of them, they seem to care a bit more playing better defense and not as selfishly on the offensive end. Probably signs of better coaching. I'm not sure if they'll keep it up all season.

I think at one point they had one of the better defensive stats in the league. Losing MKG is going to hurt that. I'm going to have to make it across the street for some games this winter.

3rd best D rating. 3rd worst O rating.

How insane would the internet be if the Lakers lucked into a top 3 pick next year?

Barring a real implosion with MKG out (which certainly possible even if it hasn't happened yet), they've got a great shot. Partially b/c it's the East and everyone outside of MIL (and I'd say CLE) has a shot.

Really, Kemba/Jefferson with some solid role players and guys that work hard on defense is a pretty solid foundation. Hendo's shot will fail him, but he gives a ####. Sessions is a fantastic 6th man. Well, except he can't shoot, but he gets to the line in bunches.

And of course, there's Mr. McRoberts. Sadly, I don't live in NC anymore, but I have to think he's got to be about everyone's favorite Bobcat by now. He's really perfect for this team.

Probably a bad year to make the playoffs, but it'll be really hard to be the one of the 10 worst teams in the league this year anyway, and if that doesn't happen, the pick is gone (though, obviously still plenty doable). They'll likely get a pair of mid-late 1st rounders from the Blazers and Pistons this year, that'll soften the sting a little. It'd would be great to string those picks out until they're unprotected, but I don't think POR/DET will cooperate on that.

Here's the CHA related draft pick debt, for those interested:

Charlotte Bobcats: Receives Portland Trail Blazers 2014 first-round pick (1-12 protected in 2014, 1-12 in 2015, unprotected in 2016) via Gerald Wallace trade on 2/24/11. Receives Detroit Pistons 2014 first-round pick (1-8 protected in 2014, top 1 protected in 2015, unprotected in 2016) via Ben Gordon trade on 6/26/12.

Chicago Bulls: Receives Charlotte’s 2014 first-round pick (1-10 protected in 2014, 1-8 in 2015, unprotected in 2016) via Tyrus Thomas trade on 2/18/10.

If it happened, I'm not sure I'd call it luck.

Unbelievable stat considering Al Jefferson is the starting big.

Things I learned from this thread:

Any isolation scorer automatically sucks (Kobe, Melo, Gay)

Any post player with a decent offensive game is infinitely better than the isolation scorers (Horford, LaMarcus Aldrige, Noah)

History shows that the isolation players have a repeated history of leading their respective teams to the playoffs while the others mentioned are checkered at best.

Raptors are rebuilding yet again but with so much suck in their history fans don't seem to mind or even bat an eye

Coming into the season the Nets were the best team some argued favorites over the Heat

Rudy Gay is the worst of the worst. (Bro don't even mention PER although we will continue to use it for every other statistical discussion)

The Magic have a squad and rebuilt the right way. (don't mind the bad record they are tanking this year and next year it gets serious)

Houston can trade Asik for pretty much any player in the league right now.

I was gonna say it helps he's only played about half their games this year, but they are giving up the same PPG with and without Jefferson (92.X).

Mostly, it helps they are playing in the East where only 2 teams score 100 PPG, as opposed to 12 in the West.
