And now the pelicans pick can be packaged with Lin....
I'm wondering where Cliff is, he seemed pretty certain that they were stuck with both of those contracts.
I'm here. I don't believe I ever said they couldn't get rid of those contracts; I even gave a few simple trades that would work. Definitely thought they'd have to package them with something else though. That is a pretty terrible deal for the Pelicans.
I have to agree. This makes the Pelicans a .500 team. .500 doesn't sniff the playoffs in the West these days. The only way this might work for the Pelicans if that future first is so protected it just becomes a second.

Yep. Asik isn't going to be the difference between playoffs or not. But hey, any time you can give up a 1st round pick to rent a one way player, you gotta do it

Picking up the future first goes a long way in helping trade Lin as well. Many people have been saying correctly that something would need to ship out with Lin to get a trade done. Now maybe it doesn't have to be donuts or jones.
How about CHA and HOU agreeing to some players HOU will take with the #25, then trading that player along with the Peli pick, Jones, and Lin to CHA on Friday or Monday (whenever the Peli's are cleared to resume pillaging their future)?
You think it will take the 2014 #25, the Pelican's 2015, and Jones as incentives to move Lin? Jesus.

Just my initial offer. Certainly, it won't take that much. I'd take just the #25 and Jones. Some other team will surely take far less. Hell, I thought HOU would have to give an asset to unload Asik, so clearly my thinking isn't in line with NBA GMs.

I must have missed it...what's the consensus on who Orlando is so eager to move up for?
Supposedly ORL, Utah, and Boston like Parker.

PHI likes Wiggins

Sources: Cavs were calling around offering teams Orlando's picks at 4 & 12 for players last night. Interesting
That tweet is what prompted my question. Although I'm sure it would be standard practice when a team receives an offer to also see how they could flip those assets.

Magic would take Jabari at 1 I'm told. But deal isn't done. Cavs were just gauging value of 4th & 12th pick. Sixers also upping offer for 1

The Cavs are fully dedicated to achieving that elusive 8th seed in the East this year. Future be damned
Gilbert said they weren't picking in the lottery anymore, and clearly he was serious.

If you trade out of the lottery, it's like the 30 win season before never happened, right?

Lin is defiantly the harder sell. And guessing someone's value almost seems impossible. I think we under-estimated how desperate some GMs are.

The Pelicans are just stupid here. Paying 15mil for one season of Asik and then they'll have a tough time resigning him next year. That team is spending a lot of money to be average.

I don't think the Cavs problem is talent. Its a poorly run franchise. I know little about their new coach and hopefully he can turn things around. Even when Deng showed up last year, he basically said the situation was a mess.

No mention of Pierce this off-season. Is he a lock to stay in Brooklyn or will he got title hunting? Could be a solid, cheap addition as a 6th man. Maybe 2/$10?

#3, #10 and Thad Young is a heist for Wiggins. Just my opinion.

Which you would assume would mean Embiid is there at 4 for Orlando. One time, dealer.
They aren't getting #10 and Young.
Wouldn't you take Orlando's offer of 4, 12, and Afflalo over 3 and Young?
it all depends on how you value the draft. Since it seems like Cle is not the most prepared team, who knows. It would seem they looked at 3 guys, Parker, Embid and Wiggins. so maybe they think the draft has 3 guys who are big time talent, and the drop off from 3 to 4 is big. I certainly don't know, but that would mean the Sixers 3 is much more valuable than the 4 or 5. i would think 10 and 12 are close enough they can be worked with.

But if i am Cle, my whole thought is where is that drop off. Is Exum's potential high enough to make it a top 4 like many suggest, or no? And is it a top 2, or what? What is funny to me is how crazy the news/prognosis is with Embid. You have some Dr.'s say it is nothing and Embid will be fine with proper rest, and 10 minutes later you get a report from another expert saying it is chronic and no hope for him.

For me, i think the choice for Cle. is obvious. I don't know that team that well, but it seems like everybody thinks the potential for Embid is huge. I would have had every Dr. in the land look at those medical records, and if i think there is a 50% chance he can be 100% i dig around for trades. I take whoever my potential trading partner is, and whoever drafts Embid i trade them the guy i got plus some asset for Embid. So leaving this draft i have Embid, and some addl. picks and maybe a veteran player i can stick in. Easy choice, now if only Cle can get out of their own way they will be fine
Looking at the last years draft the top analytical guys were Noel, Steve Adams, Arsalan Kazemi and MCW. The Sixers ended up with: Noel, MCW and Kazemi.

This years draft the top analytical guys are: Embiid, Smart, Jordan Adams and Vonleh. I don't see the Sixers as being interested in Wiggins since he ranks fairly far down the analytics list.

I guess what I'm trying to say is if CLE likes Embiid, the better take him at #1 because I have a strong feeling the Sixers target when they were discussing moving up was Embiid, not Wiggins.

I can see Milwaukee trading with Philly. Philly gets the #2 and Milwaukee gets 3 & 10. Milwaukee might throw in another player or something. Philly takes Parker/Wiggins and Milwaukee takes Exum.

Still the same guy at the top of the organizational chart.

3 and 10

for

2 and Sanders

Sanders and Noel down low and Wiggins guarding outside would be the foundation of a pretty nice defense, wouldn't it?

I feel like the fact that Orlando and the 76ers appear so eager to move up is that there are some major red flags around Embiid.

Not according to Grant...who was all about that analytical stuff.

Is having Sanders for the next 4 years at $11M per really a good thing?
12 months ago it would have been a good idea. He had a really bad year, but the cap is growing and the Sixers are likely a few years away from being super attractive to FA's. Put another way, who out there is a better buy for 11 a year? Parsons? He plays the same spot as Wiggins. Serious question. I think Sanders would be a useful player for them and his salary isn't completely out of line.

This sounds much more pausible & the going rate for PG's from recent years.

Mark Heisler is reporting that the Celtics might be inclined to trade Rajon Rondo to the Kings for the No. 8 pick.
If that deal were to go down, and we're not sure Danny Ainge would actually pull the trigger, the Celtics would then draft either Marcus Smart or Elfrid Payton at No. 6 to replace Rondo at point guard. Stay tuned. The Celtics have the No. 6 and No. 18 picks, and if you throw in No. 8, it at least makes the trading of Rondo a possibility.

Pelicans salary in 2015 (rounded)...

Gordon 15 mil

Evans 10.5 mil

Holliday 10 mil

Anderson 8.5 mil

Asik 8 mil - 15 total

Davis 5.5 mil

Rivers 2.5 mil

---------

Total 60 mil with another 4mil in bench fodder and no starting SF

how would this work without the Celtics taking back salary?

This draft is loaded full of athletic, competitive PG's that can't shoot. If SAC wants one, I don't see why they don't just draft one, and have him cheap for the next few years and under control for the better part of a decade.

Yes, about $68 million. But they have salary they could send back.

The deal would make more sense from their perspective, for the reasons articulated by Pollard, if they are unloading Thompson or something. Unless they are giving up a decent chunk of salary in return, they will have to let Thomas walk, who is much better offensively than Rondo anyway.

Milwaukee trades the 2 and Sanders to Philly.

Philly trades the 3 & 10

Philly drafts Parker/Wiggins

Milwaukee trades the 3 & 2nd rounders

Orlando trades the 4 & 12

Orlando drafts Vonleh

Milwaukee now owns the 4, 10, 12 = Exum and others.

This will happen!

The collection of worthless players that SAC has collected to get to $66 mill is quite an impressive feat.

They are at that number already and Ray McCallum is the only PG on the roster.

If the 3 and 2nd rounders could get the 4 and 12, Philly would be all over that considering they have 100 second round picks. Then they trade the 4, 12 and Thad Young to CLE for the #1.

Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports:

T.J. Warren, North Carolina State, SF, 6-8, 220, So. – He surprisingly got invited to the green room, and a source said Phoenix gave him a promise.
Feels like there are a lot of promises being thrown around this year. Wonder how many are legit.
