Can't believe with all the PG discussions that there is no mention of Patti Mills. He wants to be a starter somewhere. Hopefully no one wants him. I'd love for him to stay in SA.
He isn't going anywhere
They're going to have to at least up his contract. He made a little over a mill. When Neal left after the 2012 season after having a good playoffs like Mills, he signed for over 3M.
Yep. He is in line for a decent raise. Not sure how much Diaw will get either.

The Phoenix Suns are expected to make Gordon Hayward a significant offer, possibly a max deal, but Utah Jazz will match, per sources.

Yikes. After the way the Eric Gordon deal turned out teams should just let the suns have their free agents.

Phoenix is not one if those places that will struggle to attract free agents though. Its not LA or NY but it is certainly not MIN or the like

I really don't have an opinion on the Sixers strategy, and Lord knows, I have no clue how those picks will work out.

Bu I do think it's funny though that Hinkie gets the automatic genius tag, and nobody's going to be able to judge him differently as long as nobody ever touches the court.

He's pretty much the GM version of Exum, who's stock shot through roof from simply going away for a year.

It's an interesting phenomenon, what's happened with NBA fans over the last few years.
What people are failing to acknowledge is that in the NBA you either have elite talent and are a contender or you are not. Its not like the other leagues where a team can come from nowhere, make a push in the playoffs or win a championship. For years the Sixers were the mediocre team that flirted with the playoffs and then were pushed aside. They were an absolutely dead franchise for quite a long time and there was zero light at the end of the tunnel. Sixer fans now can at least see an opening and have some hope thanks to what the Hink has done.
I'm really not criticizing the strategy, and I don't disagree with what you are saying.

It's just interesting how much good will a GM can build up by simply delaying judgement day.

Most of these players will be busts, but from the time they are drafted until they hit the court, there's great hope. We're all dreaming about how great these guys are.

80% of the time, those dreams will come crashing down. Most of us will get to start seeing our bubbles burst within 6 months.

Look at draft grades, nobody gets worse than a C, unless they really take somebody far out of the presumed order (an order determined by people that miss badly every year)

Sixer fans will just get to hold that hope indefinitely, and Hinkie will be loved all the more for it.
Well eventually, Hinkie will be judged. I do think Hinkie is getting a bit overrated. I like what he has done and I have more faith in him than DiLeo or Thorn but I don't think he is above reproach. But 76ers fans are like the UK fans of the NBA (granted NBA rebuilds take a few years). They have "won" the last two offseasons and have tons of hype/potential so they are excited.

Now of course, the odds of everything coming together perfectly are slim. Not sure where you get 80% from. But even then, the 76ers have what, 4 lottery picks in the last 2 years and at least another one next year. So the odds of all of them being busts is just as low as the odds of them not getting a few non-busts. Odds are that eventually one of these guys becomes an All Star type player and worst case is that you have 3-4 high rotation guys on rookie contracts. And I think that is what people hope for to attract a big name FA. They should have enough cap flexibility to sign a max deal or even enough assets to go after the next Love/Melo/Harden type.

Now Hinkie is in the perfect spot to do what he wants and Grantland was right when they said this has never been done before. The owners don't care so twice, the 76ers have been able to take value in #1 picks who dropped. And for good measure, they also got good value on Saric. But this has ensured another sub 25 win season. So sure, the 76ers won't know what they have for a few years. You seem to think that is a bad thing but the good thing is that if these guys are good, you up the chances of getting more talent around him. Of course I'd rather have Wiggins but if Wiggins/Parker are that good and they draft McDermott instead, that team isn't much closer to a title than the current 76ers but they probably win 30+ games thus hurting their draft stock next year.

Now attendance/viewership will be abysmal. But I don't mind b/c I'm much more likely to watch an OKC/Houston game than a random 76ers game. So whatever makes them exciting in the future is good for me. I don't envision them as title contenders in 2-3 years but I think they'll be an exciting team on their way. I'm much more inclined to watch a young/exciting 76ers team struggle than watch Igoudala or Holiday take them to a 4 seed. I imagine its similar to OKC fans several years ago or current Wizards fans with Wall/Beal.
I could be wrong, but I think the only LottoStash'and whoever ended up with the guy BOS took last year around 16.
his rights were just traded to Toronto with Lou Williams

Thank god Salmons isn't going to the Rockets. Would hate to see multiple trade scenarios based around him everyday. Salmons, Parsons, and 1st rd pick for K Love

Suck it, Texas!

So we get to go last? Ok, sounds good.

Adrian Wojnarowski ‏@WojYahooNBALost in this is violation of coach's code: You don't pursue job belonging to someone else. Humiliating end for Larry Drew. Kidd is shameless.
I'm not a fan of Kidd as a coach with this move. He's not a player anymore and he needs to realize his role. The Bucks will stay losing when they go with this guy.

If one of the small market teams offers him a decent contract I can see him leaving because he hasn't had a big contract. He has his ring and now he can get his money.

Kidd is a bad person, should have figured this out 15 years ago.

Sorry I wasn't following Kidd around the last 15 years to see if he was a good person or not.

Wife beaters usually fall into the category of 'not a good person'. No need to follow him around.

Please stop with his rap sheet, I've already said I didn't know about it.

It's actually a smart move: the nets seem volatile enough he may not have lasted the season if they started slow again. In Milwaukee he can get a four year deal and be three years in before anyone expects anything.

I agree that it would be a smart move by Kidd.

If they are counting on Wade to drive to the hoop (where he was really good this year) then Gortat is a bad fit. He's not bad from 10-16 ft but his strenght in shoorint is up close).

Might want to tread lightly around Aaron Hernandez and Mike Tyson as well.

Wade needs to be working on his 3 point shot in the off-season. Miami has to get better at rebounding and blocking shots.

I've heard this argument in this thread before from others. Why is it people believe that no one can drive if there's a competent big man on the floor?

Not a bad haul for the Nets.

Now they can be free to go throw $10 mill/year at Steve Nash to retire and come coach. Hell, the Lakers would pay at least half that for them.

If BKN wanted to hold out for that 1st, what's furthest they could go to just ice Kidd for the next 3 years?

Could make him a road scout or something? Hire another coach, and pay Kidd to do something out of the way of D2D basketball operations?

With unlimited funds, I'd think the most spiteful route possible has to be in play, if the alternative is 2 2nd round picks (decent, but nothing to jump for joy over)..

The Heat needs size in a bad way. Gortat is a prime target for them if they can get him at a decent price and if he is willing to give a little money to play with Levron, Bosh and Wade.

Of course a player can drive with a big man on the floor. My point (which I guess I didn't make very well) was that a big man with a little range would be a better fit so that when he does clear out of the lane, his man would come with him.
