*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (6 Viewers)

Abe impatient? No way.
You like the idea of wiggins or not?
Do you have any idea how long a trade negotiation/submission/etc takes? I sure don't. Just because some mope on twitter says Wiggins is available doesn't mean Flip is standing with his schwantz in his hands instead of frantically faxing docs to the NBA office.
Oh, I was being sort of facetious. But if occurs to me that of some mope on Twitter finds out about it he probably learned the news after Cleveland approached the wolves. Otherwise, other teams might get more serious about offers and Cleveland runs the risk of missing out. I imagine it takes some time, sure.

Marc Stein: 9 teams had the cap space to bid for Boozer. Lakers put in the highest bid in blind auction to win rights to claim former Bulls PF

That might not sound as sexy as a 26-and-12 guy joining LeBron, until you realize that a Cavs defense with Wiggins and LeBron will get infinity steals, those steals will trigger fast breaks, and those fast breaks will end with one of those guys putting his nuts above the rim.

Post of the day imo.

Wow, the News Herald is reporting the Cavs will trade Wiggins, plus another player and picks for Love, rumor is James has had some input. I think this deal goes down in 48 hours.
James the GM = trouble for CLE
Yah, I'm starting to agree with the signings of Miller and the Cavs pursuit of Ray Ray. Who's gonna play defense? LBJ and 40 games of Andy V?

Cavs should be pursuing Matrix, Aminu, Brewer, etc to help on the perimeter and take shots at JO, Brand, Kenyon Martin, Udoh to build defensive depth.

I'll be bummed if the Cavs trade Wiggins. I get it, but the team just seems so much more exciting with Wiggins than Love.

Lebron is officially on the clock... 12 seasons in the league, only has another 4-6 at an elite level. He needs to win now, Love/Irving/Lebron accomplish that.

Why would any player making big money want to pay Canadian income taxes? Isn't this one of those places you're stuck in because you were unfortunate to be worth a top 5 pick they happened to have, but can't wait to get he hell out of?

carlos BOOOOOOOZER is IN DA BUILDING!

:bag:
Kind of a perfect offseason for the Lakers. Anything short of signing LeBron wasn't getting them a sniff of the playoffs.

They got a bunch of short contracts on players where, if you try really hard, you can tell Kobe you tried. You'd have to leave quickly to guffaw around the corner, but you could probably get the words out of your mouth.

Boozer to the Lakers
$3.25M bid.

I think that might be the strangest signing all year for them. I am excited for the defensive possibilities with a Nash/Young/Kobe/Randle/Boozer lineup though. They are going to be incredible to watch on defensive with pretty much any lineup. Do they have a single average defender on the entire team?

Kevin Love threw an outlet pa

Yeah, the next two years are about selling jerseys. In '16 they'll start over, I suppose. Maybe they hit a draft pick who is build around-able.

Suns offer Bledsoe a Lowry contract. Bledsoe would prefer $80 million.
4/48 seems a bit low for him, but 80 is crazy.
Suns timing is great. Bledsoe needs to sign a $60 mill deal somewhere, but I don't know who's left to do it.

Though, I guess being 6'8"gets you a lot more money than being 6'1".

ATL could be a good fit, but maybe they aren't in the mood to give big money to another PHX guard.

As for the cites without teams - not terribly relevant to the conversation, because the small-market teams were not represented - that era was dominated by big-market teams.
You realize the above phrase makes zero sense?
Sort of - not really - there were other small market teams in the NBA (as defined as the smallest 50% like above), but none of them were relevant.
Kicking off right where you started your "study", the Lakers had the #1 overall pick twice in four years. They went to the Finals nine times in 12 years. From 1983-1991 when they had #1 picks they drafted Magic Johnson and James Worthy on the roster, they only missed the Finals twice, and one of those early exits was at the hands of another team with two #1 overall picks they drafted in their starting five. Looks to me like having the top draft pick is a big help for going deep.
But the draft is supposed to help small-market teams be relevant...how is that working out for them?My proposal is to get rid of the draft, let teams sign whoever they can sign - and the argument is that small-market teams will have to fold up their tents and go home, unless the draft is around to help them get players...
Worked out pretty well for SAS and OKC.

Just tuned in, no Wiggins or Bennett for the Cavs tonight? At least, they're not on the court with 4 mins left in the 1st quarter.

EDIT: Nevermind, I was just too slow. Box score finally loaded on NBA.com and they played 6ish minutes.

Irving/James/Love might score 170 a night, meaning no need for any defense.
It'll be close. Their offense will be super elite for sure, but they need to be at least average on D to truly contend.

As a Dubs fan, I'm fine with the Cavs completely disregarding defense.
I'm not fine with them snagging stupid Love. :hot:
Might be the quickest exit from a bandwagon.

Come on Wolves, patience!
You can stick around after/if they get Wiggins, you know.

Last time LeBron flexed his GM muscle in Cleveland he ended up going to battle with Larry Hughes, right? Hoopefully history does not repeat itself.

I think Kevin Love is better than Larry Hughes. But I don't watch as much NBA as a lot of you guys.
Honest to goodness I have not seen 30 consecutive seconds of Kevin Love on the court. My posts are driven solely by the early double-ought fumes of my NBA fandom. Hope to be back contributing to the discussion shortly before Tim Duncan scores his 6th ring.

Isn't that tampering?
No idea what tampering is since Players are all best of friends and hang out with each other in the offseason. Wade/Bron/Bosh apparently hatched their plan while still under contract with their respective teams and playing in the olympics

Yeah, I know players talk to each other all the time and that can't be policed, but this seems to be almost a recruitment. No one from either camp should be confirming that LeBron is reaching out to Love.

The Lakers invited Kobe and Steve (Nash) to the final pitch meeting to help persuade Dwight to come on board. It sounded like a good idea. Steve sent out an amusing tweet before the meeting: “Dwight Howard we’re coming for you. You’re going to love the statue we build for you outside Staples in 20yrs!”

If the meeting had ended there, it might have worked. But after the presentation, Dwight asked Kobe what he was planning to do after he recovered from his Achilles injury. Was this going to be his last year? “No,” replied Kobe. “I’m planning to be around for three or four more years.”

At that point, according to others in the room, Dwight’s eyes went blank and he drifted away. In his mind, the game was over.
