*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (3 Viewers)

Omg that Todem novel he just posted.

Miami was cheap, LeBron, wade, bosh sacrificed millions to play in Miami and heat owner cut Mike Miller simply to save a few million dollars. That is pretty ridiculous considering the success those three brought to Miami that he would be penny pinching with a vital role player whom LeBron obviously loved playing with
This is where your failing to see anything. He was not vital. He barely played. He had one shining moment in a series that was well in hand. He was going to cost 17 million dollars.I don't disagree with the move at the time nor now. Mike Miller would have made no difference in this years results. None.
in the seven game series vs the Spurs, Miller absolutely won them a game, that's a vital role player. You think LeBron cares that a billionaire had to go over the luxury tax a little after winning two titles? Cutting Miller was a selfish move done in the best interests of the owners bottom line and not in the best interest of the team.
We will agree to disagree. And for the record Arison has turned a profit once in the 4 years Lebron was here. A fact proven by numbers. The Heat has been in the red 3 out of the last 4 years.

Miller had some moments. But not 17MM worth. Sorry. He could barely walk. In hindsight should they have kept him? Who knows...but to start focusing on this...a guy who averaged what he averaged as a real back breaker in Lebron's decision.....naaaa. No way. And like I said if so...after 4 straight Finals? Good riddance then. You do not let lunatics control the asylum. Gilbert is falling all over himself after calling him a quitter and horrible example for kids. I think Gilbert looks like an idiot not Lebron. And if he gives Lebron all the power again (which he will) we saw how that worked out the first time around. I respect the Heat for not caving into a superstars every single whim and demand...I don't care who they are. Even in basketball. No one player (not named Jordan) is above the entire organization. Lebron had to give some money back so he could play with Wade and Bosh. Period. He wanted a max deal this time. Well he would have got whatever he wanted here in that regard and his two buddies were willing to take a discount again to make it happen.

But no...it's about Mike Miller that broke the straw....oh please. It was so much bigger than that. It was a business decision not so much a basketball decision. Lebron is thinking way ahead of this year and next. Way ahead. In fact Cleveland's future does look bright granted if their youth pans out. But if they get love and sign him to big dollars like they will have too, between Lebron, Kyrie and Love they will be Heat 2,0. The question will be is can Kyrie and Love be as good as Bosh and Wade were? Who knows right now. Time will tell. And then they have to find cheaper role players like the Heat. It looks and sounds eerily similar to the Heat if they go in the Love direction. If they stick with Wiggins and the youth...long term they will be in much better shape. trading Wiggins and some other young assets is a risk. Either way Lebron can't lose.

His essay made sure of that. It was brilliant!!!!

#7 Miami Heat

Current value: $770 million
Revenue: $188 million
Operating profit: $29 million

The fortunes on and off the court continue to soar for the Miami Heat since the arrival of LeBron James as a free agent in 2010. The Heat captured its second straight title in a seven game series with the San Antonio Spurs. TV ratings on Sun Sports surged 43% and were the second highest in the league. The Heat locked up more than half of season ticket holders in a unique three year ticket renewal option. The team's improved fortunes also generated a revenue-sharing check for its landlord, Miami-Dade County, for the first time since the arena opened 1999 in the amount of $257,134

hmmmm

this seems to say they are doing ok financially
I am sure they are doing fine. But I was just talking about how Arison has said they have done during the Lebron years. I believe with all the tax it sucked away most of the profit.

Anyway I really don't care. My heart does not bleed for Arison who is a billionaire. But he is undoubtedly one of the very best owners in the league. No complaints from me. We have far worse owners down here....far worse.

AP: Two people familiar with the situation say Cavaliers' position has remained unchanged and that no offer including Wiggins has been made
This whole rumor mill is ridiculous. Would be shocked if the Cavs moved Wiggins before he's even had a chance to play with LeBron.
so delusional.

did you not read the letter?

also, new TV contract money.

We don't give a #### about Mike Miller being cut. If Lebron did.....then boo hoo. He went to 4 straight titles because:

A. He is the best player in the world

B. Had a fantastic supporting cast with Bosh and Wade

C. Had a great GM

D. Had a great owner who pretty much paid tax every year and drew the line on paying a guy who barely sniffed the floor 17MM

It's so easy to spend others people money. But me? I would have cut him too. Based on everything he did and how much he gave to the Heat, 17MM for Mike Miller was obscene and when he signed that deal it was talked about how obscene his deal was and how it was an awful contract. Well they got it off the books. What can I tell ya. Mike Miller.....oh jeez people. Yeah let's blame Micky Arison Lebron left because he was cheap.....holy crap. Yeah he is a real cheap skate.

Moving on already.

The Minnesota Timberwolves and Cleveland Cavaliers have discussed a blockbuster trade centered around Kevin Love and the league's last two No. 1 draft picks, league sources told ESPN.
Wait...what?

In an attempt to add Love, a three-time All-Star, the Cavaliers are willing to part with Andrew Wiggins and Anthony Bennett, the top picks in the past two drafts.
[+] Enlarge
Oh my...that's quite a haul.

One source said the Cavs are also willing to give up a first-round draft pick for next season.
Dang, the rich getting richer in the land of Ricky Rubio.

At one point, a trade seemed close to happening, but Minnesota wants more than the Cavaliers are currently offering, sources said.
Whoah. WTMF?

the Ac guy / Gatorade provider was the straw. Not mike miller. Listen I love mike. He is a gator, but he was hurt his entire tenure with miami. I am sure if they thought he would play all 82 things would have been different, but he was never the same.

There is also a feeling around the league that Minnesota is attempting to drive up the price for Love by having the Cavs and Warriors compete for the deal. ESPN.com

Lol, no way

I'm secretly wishing that rumored Josh Smith to the kings trade happens. A team with boogie, gay and Josh Smith could be explosive to watch and by the same token can actually implode and have the kings lose every game. Fascinating to watch though.

If LeBron wants Mike Miller, you pay Mike Miller. You don't cut him and also not use your mid-level exception to save a few million dollars. Penny-wise and pound foolish, and all that.

Some guy named Xavier that helped the lakers be awful last year is returning to continue the effort this year on a one year deal.

Bennett is coming off a historically bad season. He's in the deal to make the cap work - not because he's good. Wiggins is the cornerstone of the deal, but his cap figure is $0 because he hasn't signed his rookie deal yet. That makes it more complicated...I think this gets done soon though, and the Wolves will include Glenn Robinson or Turiaf to give the Cavs a bench player back.

It's probably at a point where the argument is about Thompson or Waiters vs the extra piece the Wolves send back...all while making the cap fit.

On the Cleveland side, I think you have to go all out to make the finals within the two years of LeBron's deal. Love moves the needle immediately...Wiggins is a year or two away from being that kind of impact player. Love also addresses the two major flaws on the Cleveland roster: offensive spacing and front court passing. He will allow LeBron to rest more on offense and on the boards.

I really think this deal can benefit both teams.

Wait...forgive me, I'm not an NBA junkie. More of a fringe fan. But I've seen highlights of Wiggins looking all-world in summer league. So some of those guys (or at least he) play in summer league without a contract? How does that work?

The majority of players in summer don't have contracts. They're showcasing themselves to get cap invites.

Not sure why Wiggins hasnt signed. Rookie scale that he can get 80-120% of. Most rookies get 120%.

Wiggins hasn't signed because once Cleveland signs him they can't trade him for 30 days.
