If I were to go all in with Austin Rivers in the game of "worst NBA player per minute played" poker...what hand beats me?
Josh Smith?
Jeremy Lin?
John Salmons in the back end of his career. Kendrick Perkins since they decided to keep him rather than Harden.

Nikolai Tskitishvili takes the cake for worst player ever to get over 1000 minutes played in a season. He shot .294 from the field in his rookie season, the only player to do that in more than 1000 minutes since 60-61. For his career he shot .304, had a PER of 5.2, had a rebound rate of 9.2% for a 7 footer, and couldn't guard anybody.
Haven't looked up numbers but Jan Vesely has to be in this discussion.
That was the first name that popped into my head too! In fact I went to check his B-R page when I saw this discussion. Surprisingly mediocre, certainly no Tskitishvili. Boosted by the fact that he was such a bad shooter that he almost never shot except for putbacks and dunks, resulting in a >50% shooting percentage. Stats can't really measure the damage a PF with less range than my 2 year old daughter does to spacing. Also has decent steal and shotblock per 36 numbers.
He actually looked like an end of the bench big with the Nuggets in his very short time. I'm actually a little surprised he isn't on an NBA roster.

So how much has this Cavs resurgence been driven by the trades and how much is it from Lebron deciding he wants to play (averaging 28, 7ast, 6reb and playing defense since his return from injury)? Obviously both have helped, but I'm surprised how helpful Mozgov and JR have been. The upgrade from Waiters who thought he was a star to JR who has been content being the 3rd or 4th option is huge, he's become almost strictly a spot up shooter.
The trades have been huge - even better than they imagined I think. Especially Mozgov. His presence in the lane has made a huge difference in their defense, plus he can run the floor and already is showing chemistry on offense with Lebron. Smith has been exactly what they hoped - like you said willing to spot up and wait for his chances. His size and effort on D compared to Waiters have been a bonus too.

Lebron is definitely rejuvenated mentally and physically since his two weeks off. Coming back to a team that can shoot and actually tries on defense certainly helps. Even Kyrie has figured out that defense isn't so terrible if you try a little. Limiting opposing PGs has been a big part of the winning streak.
I always liked the moves and thought Mozgov would be a slight improvement on the defensive end (Cleveland was always an decent defensive team with Thompson on the court for Varejao so it shouldn't be too shocking that they are playing even better D with a real C in the lineup).

It's the combo of Smith and Mozgov on offense that has really been striking. Mozgov moves extremely well without the ball, both in flashing for the ball when needed, but more importantly creating space for the other 4 guys when needed. He's just good enough on offense with the ball that the other C has to respect him when he moves. With Smith in either corner that basically allows LeBron, Kyrie, and Love to play 3v3 or 2v2 however they want. Their offense has become what everyone thought it would at the beginning of the season.
That's pretty much exactly how I would describe Mozgov on both sides of the ball. He is amazingly average in just about every way for a center other than his size which is a big plus, which actually makes him a decent player.

We warned you about Javale too. You are just going to have to trust us on this one.

I didn't want anything to do with McGee, I didn't like the trade when it happened and I was against the contract when they re-signed him. And don't think that Vesely is a good player, but he was surprisingly decent when he was with Denver. He has no idea how to play basketball, but Karl had him in a good position to succeed.

Which is exactly what you need when your 3 best players are so good. Same thing goes for Smith/Shumpert (both do one thing well...Simth shooting an open 3 and Shumpert on the defensive end) without being overtly bad in some other aspect of their game.

:goodposting:

Kevin Durant (ankle) said on Friday that "whoever want my [All-Star] spot can play me one-on-one for it."
This would be much, much better than any All-Star Game. Durant is the reigning MVP and while his 2014-15 hasn't been nearly as productive as last year, he's still an elite player in the NBA. Additionally, he expects to play tonight and perhaps this quote suggests he's a lock to suit up against the Pelicans.

Too late for ownership to admit they were wrong and beg Malone to come back? Just a horrible horrible firing. If you aren't going to give a new coach of an obvious rebuidling franchise time, why hire him? Start 10-6 with Cousins, he goes down, Kings go in the tank as result & they fire him.Give me a ####### break.

DeMarcus Cousins said on Thursday night that this is "absolutely" the most frustrated he's been in Sacramento.
"It’s about having self respect, some type of pride and taking your job seriously, coming in every night ready to play regardless of the circumstances," Cousins said. "Just man up and play. Play hard. If we play hard and we get our brains beat in I’m fine with that. But to come out and just lay down like we did tonight is inexcusable." He added a players' only meaning wouldn't help the Kings. The Boogie naysayers have become a very small group these days and there's nothing wrong with him caring about winning games. He's an elite center in the NBA.

Horrific officiating in Indiana.

Also Cavs playing like poo.
It was pretty bad but what you gonna do. No female either. I guess the dudes can suck too. Oh ya, this is the NBA.

Can't think of many places the Cavs struggle more at than at Indiana over recent years. Controlled the game til Indiana got red hot in the 4th and they wore out on the back end of the home/road. I can take those losses. No worries.

As fun as that game was can't wait until tomorrow against the Hawks. I think the Dubs should win it easily.
:coffee:
A week ago or so, local ATL sports talk had Aaron Goldhammer from Cleveland on. I've heard bits of it up here because it's hilarious and they roar at your local guys. If you happen to know where I can find the full interview please pass along. It was some annoying dude, with an annoying sidekick, and then an annoying woman mixed in too. No idea on their names. Goldhammer is annoying too....so it was pure gold.

edit: I have no idea if you are even in the ATL.

I still think they might have won if Hill didn't hit that ridiculous one-handed three and one.

I am in Atlanta but don't listen to much radio and even less sports talk - however, I may know who you are talking about based on your description. Let me check and see what show it is.ETA - I think this is the show but not sure if they have that interview

Thanks I'll check it out this weekend.

Should have accounted for the Dubs playing their 3rd game in 4 nights and having to travel east. I give credit to the Hawks for the win they were the better team tonight, but I still have no doubt the Dubs would win a series. Hawks played near perfect basketball shooting 15/27 from 3 point land (Bazemore, Scott, and Schroder went 7/7) and shot 37 free throws vs the GSW 15. I don't think Atlanta will have those huge advantages over a series. Otherwise the Warriors made and attempted more baskets (47/103 vs 38/77) and out rebounded (51 vs 38) the Hawks. Assist:TO ratio were pretty much the same.

Impressed with Teague and Schroder. Those guys got into the lane at will. Can't wait for the re-match at Oracle.

If you were starting a team today, age of player considered... Who do you take over Anthony Davis? He's such a complete player.
you'd be crazy to take anyone else
Last time this was debatable was 18 months ago.

And the Knick train wreck continues...

Subject: I have been a knicks fan since 1952

At one stage I thought that you did a wonderful thing when you acquired EVERYTHING from your dad. However, since then it has been ALL DOWN HILL. Your working with Isaiah Thomas & everything else regarding the Knicks. Bringing on Phil Jackson was a positive beginning, but lowballing Steve Kerr was a DISGRACE to the knicks. The bottom line is that you merely continued to interfere with the franchise.

As a knicks fan for in excess of 60 years, I am utterly embarrassed by your dealings with the Knicks. Sell them so their fans can at least look forward to growing them in a positive direction Obviously, money IS NOT THE ONLY THING. You have done a lot of utterly STUPID business things with the franchise. Please NO MORE.

Respectfully,

You are a sad person. Why would anybody write such a hateful letter. I am.just guessing but ill bet your life is a mess and you are a hateful mess. What have you done that anyone would consider positive or nice. I am betting nothing. In fact ill bet you are negative force in everyone who comes in contact with you. You most likely have made your family miserable. Alcoholic maybe. I just celebrated my 21 year anniversary of sobriety. You should try it. Maybe it will help you become a person that folks would like to have around. In the mean while start rooting.for the Nets because the Knicks dont want you.

Is that legit? Holy ####.

From the comments:

Customer: "Your product is a piece of crap."

Me: "You're probably an alcoholic, and I don't want your business."

My boss: "You could not be more fired."

No talk about the Mavs win in here? I'll summarize:

Dirk still clutch.

Defense coming along.

Parsons getting comfortable.

Team getting dangerous. Project Rondo-integration to resume after All-Star Break.

Also: Blake out, Lillard in.

Hubie Brown is an all-time-great analyst, but his little "teaching points" after every... single... play... get so tiresome. Has he ever made a mistake?

"Irving is too close to his man there, okay? He needs to back off three quarters of an inch and move diagonally to the southwest corner of the arena."

So this week made a lot of sense for Toronto. Win at Washington. Lose at home to a depleted Bucks team then get smoked at home by Brooklyn. Come back and crush the Clippers and best the Spurs.
