Wow Vandy went 0-18 in the sec? Wtf happened there? They used to be relevant.

Also how did the bottom fall out at WVU? They were one of my favorite teams to snag each March.

At the end of Kevin Stallings's run, the cupboard was pretty bare. Drew has significantly upped the recruiting. But at the very beginning of the season, their best player got hurt  and missed the entire season.

Having said all of that - 0-18 is inexcusable.

11 teams remaining who have never been to the NCAA Tourney.

Only 2 in action today.
11 teams still remaining.  All but 2 are in action today. (Grambling and Abilene Christian are off until tomorrow.)

2 teams play each other, so we'll definitely lose 1 of these teams today. (Utah Valley v. UMKC)

Thanks for these updates. This has become my favorite part of this thread. I am rooting for all these teams.

Pour one out for Raycom Sports this weekend.  Or maybe roll out a standard def TV on an AV cart one last time. The ACC tournament is the last time we'll be able to tune to a local over the air network to hear Bonner and Gminski call the action.

Not a huge loss, especially now that Bilas is the lead color guy on the ESPN broadcast instead of Vitale, but it's still the end of an era for many of us who grew up treating the Friday of the ACC Tournament like one of the biggest holidays of the year.

I remember when Grambling was the perrenial lowest ranked team on kenpom by a wide margin.  Looks like they're still awful, but seem to have come around a bit.

UVA can't shoot today. Down by 5 to NCSU late in the 1st
They better not open that door for the Wolfpack.

I hope the committee isn't reading, and agreeing with, what I'm reading about the Sooners.  7-12 in conference play and only three wins away from home all year - only one of which may make the tourney and TCU probably needs to do some more work.  Yet both Palm and Lunardi have them on the 10 line.  C'mon.

Looks like we can put away those IU bubble dreams. They are getting hammered by OSU.
:slaphands:

ETA: btw I dont know if I have said this before, but I love when you post. your avatar is one of my favorites. if I am ever diagnosed with a terminal illness, I want her to give me the news.

Well, the Buckeyes did their damndest to blow it, but it looks like they are going to hang on.

Will Assembly Hall fill up for a first round NIT game?

Sacramento State down 13 early.  WTH, Hornets?!?
was 20. went on an 8-0 run at least to end the half to make it a 12 point deficit again.

ETA: looks like they must have reviewed a two and turned it to a 3 as now I am seeing montana got an extra point?

I'll be getting off work soon so if you're interested in the remaining teams tonight:

Chicago State (WAC) 3pm

UT- Rio Grande Valley (WAC) 5:30pm

Bethune-Cookman (MEAC) 8pm

Central Arkansas (Southland) 8:30pm

UC-Riverside (Big West) 9pm

Utah Valley (WAC) 9pm

UMKC (WAC) 9pm

Grand Canyon (WAC) 11:30pm

So pretty much half the WAC field.

UMBC has made their conference championship game.  If they somehow win, what are the odds they get matched against UVA again?

I am so sick of these announcers saying how when you foul then you give them a chance to score with the clock stopped.

The clock stops when you score. So whats the difference? If you can give up an easy layup or make them shoot free throws, well... i know what i would choose.

I also hate when a team is down by 3 with 12 seconds to go and the announcers say, "Now there's no reason to go for 3 here.  Extend the game."  STHU.

Down to 5 teams with one guaranteed to lose today, as two play each other.

Yesterday was not a friendly day for these teams.

How about when a team is down by 6 with 20 seconds left and they dribble away 8 seconds and then go for two? It is one thing when they are in regular bonus, but if it is double bonus and you are down by 4 or more with 15 seconds left you are banking on making the two, being able to foul, and then the other team missing two free throws.

Hey coaches how often does that strategy work? Even when teams complete these comebacks it almost involves needing a 3 at the very end.

Even if you are down 2 with a few seconds left you might be better off going for three depending on how open the guy is.

The other part if this is simply how unwatchable these games become. Down 7, make layup, timeout, foul, one missed free throw, down 6, make layup, foul, one missed free throw, down 5, make layup, foul, two makes, down 5 again, timeout. Review for clock. Ref explanation. Miss layup game over idiots you lose. Thanks for wasting 15 minutes of my day.

Preach on, brother!  Could not agree more.

Watching a team foul, then see the other team make both foul shots, only to have the other team come back with a layup?  The ref should blow the whistle and there should be a 5 second clock runoff for stupidity.  Especially in this day and age where teams are shooting 3's at the highest percentages ever and where most teams have one guy who is a 3 point specialist, if you take the layup, you deserve to lose.

5 or more.  If you're down 4 and they're taking away the 3, but giving you room to drive then take it.

They going to let you have the three next possession?

I know it is not as simple as always take the three. Sometimes driving and a kick out sets up the three. So taking the layup can set up a three next possession. Thats not what we are talking about. We are talking about the teams that are clearly not even thinking about threes and are simply going with the extend the game strategy.

Generally speaking, there is a reason teams are giving you the two. Head scratcher, i know.

I agree with your general point - there's just a big difference between down 4 and down 5 with 15+ seconds.

One other negative side effect to reviews is that when guys get hit in the neck or head and there is no call they act like they have been hit by a truck so that refs will go review.
