Need a Drink For a Small Dinner Party (1 Viewer)

We are having 3 other families over for dinner tomorrow and my wife asked me to choose a cocktail to serve for the adults.  It needs to be summery and appropriate for both sexes.  It also needs to be a little "off the beaten path".  i.e. Not a g&t.

Anyone have anything?
It needs to be summery
We are past Labor Day, since you are already breaking etiquette then my recommendation would be a big batch of Jungle Juice.

appropriate for both sexes
Jungle Juice checks this box. Although after 3-4 drinks you can throw anything appropriate out the window.

It also needs to be a little "off the beaten path"
Enough Jungle Juice will turn most prudes into fans of bondage, ### slapping, hair pulling, etc. The "beaten path" is often unavoidable with Jungle Juice.

Please update this thread on Sunday.

Pimms Cup for the win.  Lots of different variations of the classic.   Good for groups and can serve in a pitcher.  Chicks dig the muddled cucumber.  I like it with a bit of gin and go half ginger beer, half seltzer.

Sex on the beach, Schnapps made from peach, the Velvet Hammer, the Alabama Slammer, the Pink Squirrel, the 3-Toed Sloth, the Iced Tea, the Kamikaze, the Orgasm, the Death Spasm, the Singapore Sling, and the Dingaling.

Going to investigate this.

What does Pimms taste like?  :intrigued:  What does the gin add? Other than awesomeness, of course.

Pimms No 1 (i think this may be the only one available in the US...or at least widely distributed) is gin based and has some added herbs and spices.  I like it but it does have a bit of an odd taste.

Keeping in mind it's only 50 proof so that's probably why extra gin is added sometimes.  I'd almost say it has a lemony cola taste to it

Seriously, break out some jungle juice.

Or Cinnamon Schnapps and Hershey's syrup, both poured directly from the bottle down the person's throat.

Are you trying to impress some Poindexter bankers with a fancy cocktail or are you trying to get these mid 30's MILFs to strip down to their panties?

Dinner parties can be very tiring. I fully sympathize with the need for a stiff drink to take the edge off beforehand

I usually just have something on the rocks in such a situation

I almost posted that as well, but he said "off the beaten path".
Yes but you can twist some things around. I particularly like the way they make this drink in some Asian restaurants. I think when made with fresh ingredients that it's one of the best cocktails out there.

I'm more beer guy but I like those or a fresh margarita any day.

Going out to get some Pimms.  I will try the following:

INGREDIENTS

About 1 cup ice cubes

1/4 cup (2 ounces) Pimm's No. 1

6 tablespoons (3 ounces) ginger beer or ginger ale

1 cucumber slice

1 sprig fresh mint (5 to 6 leaves)

I will also fortify the men's cocktails with with Hendricks or Martin Miller gin.

Is this something I can make in a pitcher instead of having to make 8 separate drinks?

I have sn awesome bottle of homemade Buddha's Hand infused vodka. Really bright and citrusy. Makes a great drink with some combo of soda, lime, ginger.  If you want to come by and grab it, I'll be home all afternoon.

Get Hendricks it'll help bring out some cucumber flavor.  Don't get Goslings ginger beer, it'll do in a pinch but Fever Tree makes a much better product.

This is the best flavored vodka every produced.  Hangar One, yes?

You cn definitely do Pimms pitchers.  Great drink, and really good as an aperetif.  A lot of these suggestions are not appropriate for before dinner.

@urbanhack suggestion for Sangria is a good one.  You could make a white and a rose, which would be cool.

Like the idea of Negroni's, might offer Aperol Spritzers to the ladies (wine glass, Ice, Aperol, Champagne, little club soda, orange peel).

Stay away from red wine or brown liquor.  It's before dinner, and you having fish, what are you, savages?

Any suggestion involving muddling, like a sazerac, old fashioned, or mojito is a bad suggestion.  Do you want to enjoy some cocktails with friends, or do you want to be huddle dover the counter all night?

Going with the Pimms Cup. Made one for my wife and she approved.

Whats td wrong with Goslings ginger beer?  I really like it but will be the first to admit I am not a ginger beer connoisseur.

Goslings is OK, pick up some Fever Tree next time you're out its a fantastic product and you won't go back once you try it.
