New charges filed against Brandon Marshall (1 Viewer)

Ugh, is this a legit site? Anyone else hear anything about this? Is this stemming from his crazy girlfriend or is this a new incident?

profootballtalk says "Specifically, misdemeanor battery charges were filed on September 10, stemming from an alleged incident that occurred on March 4, 2008 between Marshall and his then-girlfriend, Rasheeda Watley."

What are they saying on the sports talk stations in Colorado? This is for something that happened months ago with his crazy psycho ex girlfriend.

This is the same incident no? If so, doesn't the NFL have the equivalent of no double-jeopardy with regard to its suspension policy?

Only took 6 months to report it, I'm sure its legit. Marshall must be low on cash

My impression is that Goodell could add punishment under certain circumstances, including for example if Marshall lied to him during the prior league investigation. I don't think the CBA prohibits that.

Wasn't his suspension FOR this incident?

From ESPN:

On March 6, Marshall was arrested on a domestic violence charge involving a former girlfriend. Under the player conduct policy, Goodell has the power to suspend players for repeated bad behavior off the field. Marshall had a DUI charge but that doesn't apply under player conduct.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3558702And this:

It was a March 6 arrest on a domestic violence warrant filed by his former girlfriend in Atlanta that led Goodell to summon Marshall to his New York offices last month to explain his series of misdeeds.
http://www.thedenverchannel.com/sports/171...en&psp=newsNothing to see here, this is old news. I don't think they can suspend him twice for this. He went to counselling and everything because of this incident.

thats the 64000 dollar question right? If Marshall came clean at his earlier meeting about EVERYTHING lurking, then the NFL should take the stance that this was already addressed. If Marshall didn't mention that there could be outstanding charges (a la Vick at the draft in 07, deny everything), the league might come down on him with both feet.Stay tuned...

Yeah, it's for the incident in the offseason. For those of you who dont have time to read the report, here's a summary.

Marshall is in an apt in Atlanta and slaps his girlfriend around in front of her 2 sisters. Cop gets called and comes to sort out the situation. Has Marshall wait in hallway and interviews the women inside the apt.

Confirms that GF has split lip, sisters say Marshall slapped her around and cop goes out to talk to Marshall. He's not there anymore.

Gone.

Bad move Marshall. You don't just walk away from a situation like this. I'm not surprised that charges were filed by the authorities, I would file them myself. (BTW, Im a Denver fan) I can't think of any scenario where the prosecutor just lets you walk away without some type of resolution.

As to a suspension by the league, that's anybodys guess. My guess is no, but his lawyer and agent will have to do some fast talking.

Although, the cops did get a statement from Marshall before he jetted. But you're right ... bad move.

Yeah, he's going to be suspended like Jamaal Lewis when the feds busted him for running a coke ring. Keep dreaming lemmings.
Travis Henry had a confirmed drug failure last year and avoided a suspension. Something tells me Marshall isn't missing more time this year for this incident.

Even if they are new Charges, his lawyers could delay this thing until after the season. My guess would be any potential Suspension would not happen until next year.

:headbang: I agree with this. He may be on a short leash & needs to 100% stay out of trouble but I think he's okay as of today..

Goodell doesn't wait for convictions/trials to suspend players so your assumptions about when a suspension takes place is inaccurate.

When? Wouldn't he open himself (NFL) up to a lawsuit, if he suspended someone before being found guilty?

Uh huh, live Travis Henry last year? :wolf:
There are drug policies in place for drug use. There are a different set of standards in place with conduct. Your example of Travis Henry is comparing apples and oranges.

Can somebody educate the doctor here, I gotta run.A prime example for you to use is................. Brandon Marshall himself, he wasn't convicted of anything when he got suspended.

Then why does Matt Jones get to wait on a ruling for his drug case? Because he's white? damned racists!

Michael Vick and Pac Man Jones are the most notable examples. But, no, the NFL -- like any employer -- is free to maintain and enforce personal conduct policies of its own apart from the law of the land.

Interesting. If this is verified, Marshall could face more suspension this season.
 :headbang: :pickle:
you must have a really pathetic life.
Or maybe he just feels strongly about domestic violence.
or maybe it never happened. Let's wait and see before we start cheering for a player to be suspended.
You wait. The rest of us own the right to act how we feel appropriate given Marshall's past trangressions. There are reasons he was a second day draft pick & they have nothing to do with his ability on the football field.

I agree 100% I may be confused about whether he has already admitted to the conduct. Has he previously admitted to the assault?

Chris Henry was not found guilty, yet he was suspended 4 games.

Can someone give me the synopsis of this? Is this a new accusation or old one? Is there a chance he's suspended again?

He never admitted to hitting his girlfriend. I think his girlfriend actually called the police on a similiar incident and then she subsequently dropped any charges. Her word isn't exactly golden at this point either. People around here seem to think that anyone that sticks up for Marshall thinks he is also a great guy. I DONT. I just think he deserves to be heard and grow up a little bit. If it is proven that he hit his girlfriend then I will agree that he deserves as much jail or suspension that the courts/league give him.

Yea and maybe OJ never killed Nicole. I get tired of seeing these thugs just because they are sports stars getting off the hook. Lets go with the if theory. If he did it he should be done for the year. If he did not maybe he can get the benefit of the doubt next time. When you have a bad track record like he does you are presumed guilty until proven innocent as wrong as that may be.

That isexactly what i am doing. Waiting and Seeing what happens. Innocent until proven guilty not the other way around. Also, as i underlined above, this isnt news. this is one of those past transgressions.

haha, i agree. also, why are people comparing this to OJ. This is also in another thread. It's funny to me.

I dont' think anyone said that at all. You seem to think he's earned the right to people giving him the benefit of the doubt. Obviously, in light of his track record, others feel differently.

fine, i agree. Everyone can have their opinion. But when you go to court for an offense you are innocent until proven guilty. Not guilty until proven innocent because of your track record. That is the way our legal system is designed. It isnt an opinion.

OK remind me not to have the discussion in a courtroom. Last time I checked, we were posting on a football messageboard....opinions are kinda the bedrock of those.
