Hmmm, as are the Saints. Interesting.

The Saints are true underdogs in this game. It'll take a miracle, for sure, to beat The NFC's best team (in their den no less)

The key in my opinion is for the Saints to get on top early and force Seattle to play from behind. Get that crowd out of the game early.
That doesn't really happen. Even when they were down 21-0 to Tampa in mid-season it didn't happen. It certainly won't happen in a playoff game.
Yeah, I don't think anyone who thinks the Saints can get the crowd out of the game really watches much Seattle football.
Like I said previously, the hope is that this is the "button up shirt" playoff crowd and not the regular joe and jane fans. Everyone has written this game off as a Seattle win, so there's a slight possibility that money talked and there's a more casual fan sitting in the seats this weekend.

I'm sure your sentiment is correct for a regular season game. Seattle fans never get down, they never write their team off, they are always in it, etc.
of the 68000 fans in the stadium, 62000 are season tickets. It's going to be the same people there it always is.

I also want to re-emphasize that the Seahawks are the best team in the NFC. I'm shocked at all of the anger and aggression coming from the Seattle fans. You should be soaking in this moment. Rejoicing in it.

I'm really enjoying the strategy discussions. I'm hoping that the upcoming playoff game thread can be a positive one. I had expressed my doubts earlier that we were capable of having a focused discussion on the game, but from what I've seen we're fully capable if we can just cut out the negativity and anger. I think there are some good, knowledgeable football fans in here, and I'm really hoping we can elevate over the standard meat-head game threads.

Lets do this! I'm in for a positive game discussion if you are.
I understand the sentiment--there is a lot of pent-up frustration around not having won a Superbowl and this leads to anger. It's worth mentioning the Northwest has the highest rate of serial killers in the US statistically so it isn't just the Seahawks that piss us off.

But all joking aside, I would simply ask you be careful in using such a broad brush to paint Seahawks fans. Some of us are truly enjoying it. I am, although I certainly can get defensive quick too (it's an area of improvement I'm working on).
Good point about the broad brush. Looking forward to an exciting game with no injuries, and hope to see your positive energy in the game thread on Saturday.

I don't see a ton of anger. Maybe one or two guys, but DD is just shticking you up, and most everyone else just seems to think the straws you're grasping at aren't actually going to have anything to do with the game.

Seems like you're just looking for something to be upset about. Sorry if I'm wrong.

Yeah, I know. Watching the Downton Abbey crowd show up for Bulls playoff games in the 90's gives me the slightest sliver of hope.

Hey, it would be a positive all around. Seattle fans could make some good cash selling those tickets, and everyone can use a little boost in this economy.

Is Washington one of the legal weed states? Maybe I can hope for a mellowed out crowd

Not looking for anything to be upset about, not at all, in fact just the opposite. Hoping we can have a really good exchange in the thread on Saturday. I know we're capable of great things if we pull together.

I thought K.J. Wright did a masterful job of covering Jimmy Graham the last time these teams met.

With Wright out with a foot injury, which LB is most likely to get the matchup this time around?

Malcolm Smith is wrights fill in. Wright wasn't the only person covering graham that game.

Liked Smith at USC. Little undersized, but a hitter for sure. I can see them mixing some coverages, especially to keep the 6' Smith from being isolated against the 6'7" Graham. Thanks for the insight Scientist.

Hey Scientist, while I've got you here, what was up with Wilson the last four games of the regular season? Yards passing per game was down (173) as was completion percent (57). More pressure on him as well (14 sacks). Was it something we should watch for in this game, or was it strictly the matchups?

I won't be even thinking of this place on Saturday...I'll be at the game.

Playing the niners, cardinals, and rams is a tough task. He was off his game against the cardinals. Bounced back against the rams.

This post makes less sense than probably any that I've ever seen in here. The same people that go to a regular game are the ones going this weekend. The same ones that go to night games are going to this one. And are you somehow trying to say that the furor over a playoff game is going to be less alluring or effective than a regular season game? The crowd is going to be into it less during a playoff game?! By the same line of reasoning, the Saints might bring up all their practice squad players and deactivate all their starters.Seriously, that makes far less sense than even a drunken Breesisdaman.
You guys are so sensitive about this crowd noise thing. Why not just say you disagree and explain why? No need to get personal. It always seems to be an affront if anyone suggests anything but Guiness level noise. Even when we couch our comments by saying it'll still be uncontrollably loud, you take offense.

As mentioned plenty earlier today, the Saints struggle mightily to force turnovers. They have just 4 in the last 10 games. I don't see any way to win this game without a turnover or special teams touchdown (Saints have zero of those all year). Just lining up and going toe to toe won't be enough. It's pretty frustrating considering how opportunistic we've been in the past. It almost feels like playing with a handicap lately.

I know reading is a skill, but I'll type it again. Hoping that "fair weather" or "casual" fans show up for the playoff games is a sliver of a straw that is being grasped. 1% chance of happening. I've said that several times.

Edit: If you Seattle fans are just looking to gin up something to get angry about, you'll have to look elsewhere.
And you're still too optimistic in your straw-grasping. You don't seem to get that.

I'm not taking offense and I'm not sensitive about it. It's a silly statement to make and he makes it several times in several posts. He can say he's grasping for a 1% possibility, but there's as much chance of Brees and Graham being benched and Payton giving OC duties to Ryan than of what he's saying. Pointing out that something that won't happen, won't happen, isn't being sensitive.

Probably because many Seahawks fans (myself included) take pride in being disruptive at the games and any perceived slight that this is going to be an "off day" from the crowd is met with skepticism. It comes from hearing this every ####### week from opposing fans. Seriously you are fanbase #48 in terms of hearing how the opposing team is going to come in and get to an early lead and shut the crowd down. It gets extremely old.

Think if someone from Seattle were trying to tell you guys that your Po' boys down there suck and we have this great food truck up here that does them "way more authentic". (As a side note I don't know, I'm trying to find something to be prideful about in NO but I've never been there and I suspect you guys don't care much for Mardi Gras past the age of 24.) (As a side note part 2, "Where Ya At Matt" is actually really damn good, although I can't speak to the authenticity.)

What he said about people selling tickets happens in just about every city, particularly when a team is poised to make a deep run and the economy sucks. It's certainly not something I'd expect from a fanbase that is looking for their first title though (as opposed to a group like Pats fans).

The fact remains there was a concerted effort to set a Guiness record on that MNF game. Maybe it gets broken again. I don't know.

I didn't say anything about people selling tickets. There was a concerted effort to re-break the record because it has long had the reputation as being excessively loud. It has that reputation because the fans that go to every game are fanatically loud. Any suggestion or intimation that it might be lessened because it's a playoff game should be met with the incredulity as someone suggesting that Brees will skip the game. Pointing that out isn't being angry or offended. I'm not sure what other reaction or way of disagreeing there is for someone who is pointing to a brown house and saying it's blue.

biju - I think Katrina jokes are about the only thing one could say to rile up a New Orleans native. Everything else just rolls off. As for Saints fans in particular, the insinuation that we cheated to win a Super Bowl is the most infuriating we hear. Unfortunately 90% of average fans truly think that way thanks to ESPN and their lack of understanding of what happened. So I dunno - would you rather be told constantly that the greatest moment of your sports fan life is a complete sham or that there's a 1% chance your crowd noise won't break your previous record? ;)

It's like a Who's Hottest thread and trying to convince a guy that the girl he thinks is the hottest might have an off night. Not a problem.

I've tried to drop it several times, but people seem to want to discuss it

I'd rather get back to the game talk. I'd like to hear from the Seattle fans what the opposing team blueprint was in the final four games for the Hawks, and how the Saints might hope to emulate that.

I shouldn't have brought it back up. Apologies, everyone.

First off, nobody should joke about anything where people died. Katrina is off limits.

I still think (and yes, this is going to happen folks and I'm terribly sorry about it) that if Jon Gruden says "What a catch by Golden Tate! How in the world did MD Jennings not just bat the ball away" there would be a distinctly different tune from that game. As it is, I came back from that game happy and immediately met with a slew of people telling me we didn't win that game. Trust me, I get (to a lesser degree) what you're talking about. Same can be said about XL. Same can be said about Pete Carroll being a cheater and the PEDs and a whole bunch of crap everyone says every time they think about the Seahawks.

Without some of the auto-defense mechanisms Seahawks fans have we would just whimper in the corner.

More and more tickets are going on sale for this game everyday. It's not out of the realm of possibility that a bunch of Mr. Burns types sweep in and buy playoff tickets because it's the place to be seen or the "cool" thing to do. Will it happen? Probably not. Is it MORE possible than Brees deciding to stay home? Of course. Your comparative analogies to mine are ridiculous. How can you say it's not possible that Seahawk fans might not take the money and run. $500 a ticket? How can you NOT sell at that price. I'm giving Seattle fans more credit for being financially savvy than you are.

Yeah, that's about the same thing as what you just said. Many things are invented in Seattle. I bet you buy more off Amazon and run MS software a hell of a lot more than I buy beads and chuck them at flashers.

We created a cuisine. The only true American cuisine.

What's your point?

That 'Bountygate' thing. I can't tell you how many times I've told a new friend I'm a Saints fan and they say, 'aren't they cheaters?' or something similar.

Yeah, that's about the same thing as what you just said. Many things are invented in Seattle. I bet you buy more off Amazon and run MS software a hell of a lot more than I buy beads and chuck them at flashers.
We created a cuisine. The only true American cuisine.

What's your point?
All the French stuff?
Please do some research and then get back to me.
:lmao: "only true"

biju - I think Katrina jokes are about the only thing one could say to rile up a New Orleans native. Everything else just rolls off. As for Saints fans in particular, the insinuation that we cheated to win a Super Bowl is the most infuriating we hear. Unfortunately 90% of average fans truly think that way thanks to ESPN and their lack of understanding of what happened. So I dunno - would you rather be told constantly that the greatest moment of your sports fan life is a complete sham or that there's a 1% chance your crowd noise won't break your previous record? ;)
Wait, what?
That 'Bountygate' thing. I can't tell you how many times I've told a new friend I'm a Saints fan and they say, 'aren't they cheaters?' or something similar.
Oh, I still don't get how it's even wrong, much less cheating.

I wouldn't call that cheating, I'd call that dirty.

You are correct...we didn't come up with it. We do it best though.

So who is IN/OUT from the last matchup from these teams? Here's what I have, and I'm certain I'm missing some from New Orleans so help a brotha out.

Seahawks:

IN:

Walter Thurmond

Percy Harvin(I would give this about 75% shot at happening)

OUT:

KJ Wright

Luke Willson(50/50 shot at making it back from a sprained ankle)

Saints:

OUT:

Kenny Vaccaro

Parys Haralson

Keenan Lewis(50/50?)

What's Lewis' and Thomas' status? Are there any players that didn't play 12/2 that are back now?

Biggest 12th man advantage in the league, which is amazing given it's an open air stadium. Kudos to you guys.

And nobody is gonna disagree with that. That noise helps y'all have one of the biggest HFAs in the game.

I'm no so sure Thurmond wins back his role. Maybe he gets back to his slot spot there, but honestly I think Lane tackles better anyway. And by all means, Byron Maxwell looks like he might make it four members of the LOB who get All Pro nods in 2014.
