***NFCC - Washington 14-5 at Philadelphia 16-3***(-6, 47.5) 3:00 (3 Viewers)

I am returning from a month in the sun just in time to sit down and enjoy the game. Hopefully my kids shoveled our driveway.

No matter the result, this has been a fruitful year for WAS. From the top down things were done correctly. This has been a pitiful division for a long time except for the Eagles. They were getting 5 wins a year against Jerry Jones, Dan Snyder, and Daniel Jones. They have a really good GM and make smart moves.

My hope is that the I-95 rivalries come back, and we get the fun of dealing obnoxious Iggles fans that want to start fights about nothing important. I also hope the Giants get better. It would be good for the NFC East if they get on track. The Cowboys are completely unimportant. Every NFC team has been to the NFC Championship since DAL last was. I'm fine with them sucking forever or getting put in the AFC South.

I kinda like the giants being sucky
Can we consider the Giants our Farm team since we got Saquon off of them?

Not once. No one complains when you all post in the cowboys threads. Or about the cowboys players or coaches in your thread. Noone cares.
When I post anything in the red headed step child thread you lose your minds.

Just going on that who would you say does any reporting?

Did you report Joe Bryant? Yes or no?
Lol I rarely post in the Cowboys thread, and it's almost always about football.

You have this incredible obsession about talking about eagles fans that you simply can't help yourself any chance you get.

Rent free and you still can't stop yourself lolllll
Did you report the owner of the site?

I mean, we all can read. We know you did.

Would you like to admit it or pretend it didn’t happen?
lol rent free. You're obsessed with us.

No that is the Saints, players and picks thanks a bunch Mick!

You guys really report people? Wow.
right. I truly thought that was a myth or something. Whatever back onto the game.

I'm concerned. Wednesday has been a traditionally normal practice day this entire season, not a walkthrough day. The main difference (apart from the stuff that is actually done on the field) is that beat writers are allowed to attend practice but not allowed to attend walkthroughs. The fact that they don't want eyes on the practice, and lets be honest almost certainly specifically on Jalen, is giving me a ton of apprehension going into Sunday. His designation of being a limited participant in a walkthrough day is also perplexing. Like how beat up do you need to be to be labeled limited in a day where you aren't practicing?

It would be a damn shame if we get an NFCCG with a hobbled Jalen after the year they've put together. With a "healthy-for-January" Jalen Hurts, I'd say that they'd have a 75-80% chance of making the Super Bowl. Without Jalen, or frankly with a Jalen that is not a threat to keep and run, I'd drop that to a coin flip. His presence just does so much to open up the defense for Saquon. If Washington determines early on (which they will) that Jalen is not a threat, they will pin back and crash Saquon, daring Jalen to pass.

To be clear, I think we can still win that way. Just because we haven't HAD to open up the passing game doesn't mean we CAN'T open p the passing game. I've maintained for a few weeks now that in most of their games, there hasn't been a need to put any aggressive passing concepts on tape for opposing defenses and more importantly potential future defensive coordinators. IMO tales of Jalen's inability to pass the ball have been greatly exaggerated over the last few months.

Either way, I'm hoping that this is gamesmanship and Jalen is not hindered in what he does.

Yeah I am not feeling great about Jalen Hurts' health and mobility going into this game...at all. Can he still just drop back normal and pass the ball? I think so, but him being extremely/very limited is going to really change the dynamic of the game.

With that said, yeah keep "loading the box" against Saquon.

Yeah, this will be the interesting strategy of this game. Do you load the box and basically run blitz the whole game and then cover one on one against the receivers and hope for the best?

Like, if Washington runs the same defense they ran last week against the Lions the Eagles will destroy them and Barkley runs for 200 yards. All the while keeping Daniels off the field.

This game is the most fascinating one so far in the playoffs. Eagles strength against the Commanders strength.

Can't wait for this game.

The last time they played, the team they are playing in three days did exactly this once Jalen was out of the game. Take a look at Saquon's game logs once the threat of Jalen's legs were eliminated from the game. It ain't pretty. He ripped off a huge TD run on the second play after Jalen left the game. After that he got 22 carries for 42 yards.

I'm pretty sure the designations on walk throughs are assigned as if it were a full practice.

Meaning, if this was a full practice day he would have been limited, not that he was limited to do a walkthrough.

It's not strength v. strength. It's strength v. weakness

Eagles O strength: rushing O
Washington D weakness: rushing D

Yeah, sorry. I should have clarified that better.

Eagle strength = rushing the football with success helps mitigate Washington's strength (Daniels on offense) due to less possessions for Daniels.

From the FBG news blog:

Updating a previous report, Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts (knee) was limited during practice Wednesday, Jan. 22. The Eagles did not hold a practice Wednesday, so this is an estimation.

Same was reported for AJ Brown and Goedert missed practice, which might be the most concerning.

Fully healthy, I think Philly wins this game with 80%. confidence. That’s not knocking WAS. Philly is better at every position on the field, except the most impactful: QB.

Injury report this afternoon will be very telling. But, as of yesterday, these are what stand out to me as keys to this game, in order of importance to the game.

1. Jalen Hurts. How bad is that knee? If Jalen’s immobile, it makes this ground and pound Offense more one-dimensional. Hurts is not a pocket QB and the run game relies on Defenses having to account for his legs AND Saquon. Before he got injured in the 2nd game against WAS, Philly was dominating. This is the key to the game.

1a) Cam Jurgens DNP with a back injury. Philly’s Oline uncharacteristically struggled in pass pro vs the Rams. Chris Shula did a great job running stunts and confusing the Oline. If Jurgens is out, or worse, toughs it out but can’t really go, this Oline gets worse at 2 positions: C and LG. Landon likely moves to C and Steen comes in at LG.

2. Commanders’ RG Sam Cosmi out for the rest of the season. Pressuring Jayden Daniels is key. He will kill you if he has time to dissect a D. The Eagles will not blitz much because he is one of the most effective QBs against the blitz.

Jalen Carter has taken a leap this year and is trending towards being the best DT in football. WAS OL wasn’t a strength anyway, but with Cosmi out (a guy who handled JC 1:1 earlier) Carter will make his presence known in this game.

3. Quinyon Mitchell shoulder. Supposedly, Q will be good to go. The difference between him and Rodgers on the field is huge. Q blanked Scary Terry the 1st time, and held him to 50some yds and a TD in the 2nd match up. McLaurin will have a huge day if Rodgers is on him.

4. Bobby Wagner ankle? DNP yesterday. Was that just rest? How bad is his ankle. He and Luvu have been really unheralded players that are having a really solid season. Wagner not at 100% def hurts WAS, especially stopping Saquon.

5. Nakobe Dean. The loss of Nakobe had a big impact on the D. Burks had some great plays against LAR, but the D also looked a little lost and had some communication issues. Baun wearing the green dot and calling the plays led to some formation/assignment issues. Vic will have them coached up, again, but this D isn’t the same with Dean’s football IQ and downhill ability.

Eagles practicing soon so we'll see about those injury reports. Only injury I'm concerned about is Jurgens. Backs are no joke.

The Eagles tend to avoid these types of situations. They don’t normally move one lineman over and fill in with another. If god forbid, Cam can’t go they will start Nick Gates who has filled in for Cam previously this season.

2. Commanders’ RG Sam Cosmi out for the rest of the season. Pressuring Jayden Daniels is key. He will kill you if he has time to dissect a D. The Eagles will not blitz much because he is one of the most effective QBs against the blitz.
That's a huge blow for Washington. I don't think they have anyone to plug into Cosmi's spot who can at least hold even at the LOS, so I expect some non-standard blocking schemes and playcalls for Washington.

4. Bobby Wagner ankle? DNP yesterday. Was that just rest? How bad is his ankle. He and Luvu have been really unheralded players that are having a really solid season. Wagner not at 100% def hurts WAS, especially stopping Saquon.
Vet day off for rest, nothing I'm worried about and I'm sure he'll play. Same for Ertz.

You guys are focked

Eagles are in a great spot and Saquon could put up 200 and multiple TDs. Team looks better everywhere except QB compared to Washington. Run the ball well and limit turnovers should be enough to earn the W.

Despite that, I'll be rooting for Joe Cool Jayden Daniels to find a way. He's a winner and an impressive young man. Could become one of the greats.

Still really good odds on Underdog for Barkley to break a long one (40, 60), as well as a ton of rush yards (180, 200). He’s in such a zone right now you almost expect it. At the same time, Daniels 1.5 TD is plus juice. Since they will need to chuck it, and he threw 5 against them last time (weird game, script dependent; I know), seems generous.

I like the way the Philly O matches up against the Washington defense. I see the Eagles being able to do pretty much whatever they want to do to attack the Washington defense.

Defensively, I think they'll be able to contain Daniels enough to win the game. The Eagles get pressure rushing 4, they don't blitz (19% blitz rate was bottom 5 in the league) and the interior OL for WAS could have problems slowing Jalen Carter with Cosmi out. Daniels threw 9 INTs this season, 3 were against the Eagles. I think they'll turn WAS over again, maybe multiple times.

Washington is having a good year, but they just don't have the horses to beat Philly. My score prediction for this game is 34-23, Eagles.

His season ends Sunday against a much more talented team but Jayden Daniels has that swagger.

Jayden Daniels wrote “Cancun on 3! 1,2,3” on #Lions CB Terrion Arnold’s jersey after they swapped jerseys in the divisional round, per

That's what DAL said last year about GB and Jordan Love. ;)

My hope is the Iggles get stomped just like DAL did.

in the 3 games of 4 losses for WASH this season, Daniels rushed for 22, 5, 18 and 74. That 74 against DAL being an anomaly, he otherwise averaged 66+ yds/gm rushing.
in the game Wash lost to the Eagles, he rushed for 18. in the game they won, he rushed for 81.
only Lamar Jackson gashed the Eagles other than Daniels for 79. Otherwise Eagles D averages 20+ yds/gm to qb rushing.
(stats based on downloads from the interweb, accuracy not guaranteed. math.)

guys guys, i think i found the magic formula.
execution on the other hand of course is a problem against this wunderkind.

He had 49 of those yards after CJGJ got tossed.

Also, Lamar had a run of 39 yards on that last drive with 1 minute left and the game was over, Eagles were just playing prevent.

Aren’t the Lions this year more like the Cowboys of last year though?

Just ya know blowing the 1 seed instead of the 2 and against the 6 seed instead of the 7.

Lions are way better than the Cowboys, the problem was they were a MASH unit on defense. I still think the NFC North is a weak division, but I'd take the Lions any day over the Cowboys.

WAS DT Daron Payne downgraded to OUT for NFCCG.
That's kind of a big deal. Skins missing starting Center on offense and their best DL on defense. You don't just plug in guys for those spots.
Payne is probably addition by subtraction for Washington. He has a big reputation (and contract) but he's been their worst starting DL this season. I don't know if it's a "he got paid" thing, or he's just a poor fit for Quinn's defense, but he's been a liability all year. It'd been better for Philly if he played, especially if he was also playing hurt.

Now Cosmi being out a G (which is who I think you meant, as Biadasz is the C, and he's fine) is a big deal as he's clearly their best OL, and the guy who likely matched up with Jalen Carter the most.

WAS DT Daron Payne downgraded to OUT for NFCCG.
That's kind of a big deal. Skins missing starting Center on offense and their best DL on defense. You don't just plug in guys for those spots.

Payne was playing 68% of the defensive snaps, the most on their DLine. Plus, his snap counts increased as the year went on. If he was their worst defensive lineman, someone should have told the WAS coaches.

At the very least it hurts their rotation/depth

Jonathan Allen missed 9 games, and Sheldon Day missed 4. They didn't have a choice for much of the year.

Among DTs who played 700 or more snaps, only Bryan Breese of the Saints has a lower PFF grade. Payne was a gigantic liability in the other 2 Eagles games, where he just got manhandled by Mehki Becton. That likely would have happened again, and while its likely the replacement (2nd round rookie Jer'Zhan Newton and/or Sheldon Day) will too, but at least its less certain.
