[NFL Draft] Thomas Howard [LB] Texas-El Paso (1 Viewer)

Anybody been following this character? I saw some things that interested me.
Bloom and Chaos would have more than I, but the impression I got from multiple sources was that he was a superfast guy who was a very good athlete, but there were some concerns about his football instincts and ability.

I wonder if this guy starts shooting up the draft board this week in the great athlete but limited on-field production type.

I think he's the kind of guy that's a good bet for that. Some team(s) fall in love with the athleticism and workout numbers and ignore the film.

you got it CB. raw materials are there for a stud, but he needs seasoning. This OLB class is excellent and I don't see him cracking the first, but early/mid 2nd is very possible.

I know you, Onion. You are thining Vikings, aren't you? ;)
Naturally. However I am more of a on-field production guy than a measureable guy. So my inquiry is driven by fear, not hope.

NFL Draft Countdown - Thomas Howard

Strengths:

Amazing athlete with rare speed for the position...Has fluid hips and does a tremendous job when dropping into coverage...Has a great burst and closes fast...Terrific in space and makes plays sideline-to-sideline...Big hitter who will light people up...Changes direction well...Is an excellent pass rusher on the blitz...Very productive...Team leader and hard worker with top intangibles.

Weaknesses:

Gets by on his athleticism and lacks great instincts, which are essential for a linebacker...Can do a better job as a tackler...Struggles when taking on bigger blockers...Needs to hit the weights and get stronger...Doesn't react on the field as quickly as you'd like...Still developing and is not yet a finished product.

Notes:

Began his career with the Miners as a walk-on safety...Father was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in 1977 cousin was a member of the musical group En Vogue...A true workout warrior whose measurables are almost off the charts.

This guy is definitely going in the first round, most likely for all the wrong reasons.

Agreed. Some team is looking at him as a strong safety. Sorry, cannot remember the conversation at the moment, but it shocked me, because as fast as he is, he struggled in coverage. Another very high character guy. Just takes some bad angles, doesn't read and react as naturally as Ryans, but could be a very explosive blitzer from the edge. He and McIntosh seem to finish off a tier of 4-3 good OLBs and the drop off is not appealing.

6' 3.25"239 lbs

4.42 time in the 40

My initial reaction is that similiar to the opions given on Oak WR Johnny Morant. He is a physically gifted person who is a true workout warrior..... but it never evolves onto the field. I burned a 3rd round rookie pick last year on him... nothing in return. Expect Morant to be a bust.

Howard.... only saw him 1x... quick to react and good athlete. Needs to develop a mean streak to really have good value.

Has potential, but I will be looking his name up around round 3 of my rookie draft...probable SLB role IMO.... but good potential
