TE Mason Taylor, NYJ (2 Viewers)

Dwain McFarland
Mason Taylor was targeted 12 times today.

7 times last week.

The new No. 2 option for the Jets.

Mason Taylor target shares by week:

Week 1: 5%
Week 2: 10%
Week 3: 17%
Week 4: 26% 👀👀
Week 5: 27% 👀👀

Really think those first two weeks were hampered by the preseason high ankle sprain.
Mason Taylor’s been stonks up quickly since week 3!

was emailing a friend of mine last night and one of the things I said was Mason Taylor is probably my most important player for my fantasy season.

Yesterday was a good day, great game in TEP, and had him in 7 lineups so was not just good to see on my bench.

On that note was this week a fantasy revival week for the TE? I just now I’ve been struggling, like most people, with TE production and had Taylor in a ton of WDIS calls with mainly 4 other TE’s Goedert was the worst of the 5 and he was solid due to his TD.

But, but, but, I was told that Justin Fields never in the history of ever threw to his TEs! 🤣
Were you? I never read that in here. I know I said his historic rate is ~20%.
Yeah there was someone moving the goalposts months ago re If Fields is good for the TE, and I believe subjectively what that even means bc me and a few others pointed out Cole Kmet best seasons to date and only ones where he was a TE1, were when Fields was his QB.

Looks like Taylor might be another early arriving young tight end on the fantasy scene though for real. They have plays for him and Fields is fining him.

Outside of the garbage time stuff yesterday.

I've been pleased with his usage level starting in week 3. That's traditionally uncommon for a rookie TE and I think it shows his grasp of the offense and overall ability.

would you want Mason Taylor or Harold Fannin in dynasty?

The teams are setup very similary at least what they want to be in theory in run first teams that hope to rely on elite defense. I think CLE can actually execute the type of team that they want to be in game.

  • Fannin is a better run after catch guy and seems to be given the ball as a wildcat guy
  • I don't like that Deshaun will be the QB next year more than likely as he is set to make so much money.
  • CLE seems like they found their workhorse back and will be a run the ball pass at a medium rate

  • Mason is a bigger target to throw and not a shabby route runner. I actually think Mason might grow another inch by next year
  • I actually like that the Jets have a Garrett Wilson as a 1, as the attention goes to him which should help Taylor.
  • I am expecting more garbage time stats with Taylor than Fannin for next year as I expect the Jets to be bad with equally bad defense.
  • Prefer garbage time Fields over Dillon, Shedeur, Watson

I am leaning Taylor for dynasty

How high is his ceiling in keeper/dynasty leagues? Can he be a top five TE?
I think I asked this question in this thread last week and have since realized it was the wrong question.

To your question, yes, a top-5 ceiling is there. As it is with just about every other top-24 dynasty te if they hit the perfect situation without an abundance of pass catchers.

The real question, is can he be a top-2 / cheat code TE ala Gronk/Kelce/prime Jimmy G.

Nah, I don't think so.

I do think there's a scenario where he is really productive this year (even in the top-5 rankings). I would consider him a good sell high candidate if we get that lucky.

The Waldman article got in my head and I'm now an owner (dumped old, declining Ertz for him). I still have old, declining Njoku and I'm giving it one more week with him to see if last week's uptick from the Browns QB change sticks, but I will gladly pivot to a rising player with upside to improve.

It's week6 and I am still searching for my starting TE.
Drafted Andrews. Replaced him with Juwan. Replaced Juwan with Ertz.
And now I am here with Mason. I hate the TE position. But if you find one with a "slight" cheat code; aka possibly the WR2 on a team then I have to take a shot.

Glenn has had some strong praise for Taylor, particularly in the last few weeks. Has made several statements about needing/continuing to get him targets. I was only able to grab him in one league, but I'm a buyer at the over 33.5 receiving yards the books continue to hang up while he keeps getting half a dozen+ targets.

Like I said I picked him up but I'm being cautious. He's still a rookie TE that will have some inconsistency. Having said that we can hope he can have a Cole Kmet type season when Fields was throwing the ball in CHI. The positive is there isn't a lot of competition for targets so hopefully he can be the #2 there.

Hadn't thought of that, you're getting me excited!

No, I forgot how he fed Kmet, it a similar profile actually with Moore as Wilson too

Ok thanks, I feel like we've been having that conversation in this thread since May regarding Fields with Kmet and him being the #2 option in the passing offense. Which is why I asked.

No its my first time really checkin in here, I always am wait and see with the rookie TE's but he's starting to show it and the opportunities are going to be condensed there.
