NFL Films presents "Jeff Saturday's Indianapolis Colts" Week 15-Blows a 33 point lead vs the Vikings (1 Viewer)

Well if you want to swim downstream your whole life and be part of the crowd, that's fine. I like to look at facts and make my own determinations. No one should be expecting the Colts to turn it around and win a bunch of games, that was never my point, ,but the hate being lobbed Saturday's way is ridiculous. Would it have been better to hire a black coach off the staff they knew would be fired at the end of the year to appease the woke? Cheers!
I think that's fair and right

Also it should be noted that Saturday has them leading going into the Half. Now maybe the Raiders come out and the 2nd Half is different but it would be unfair to characterize the Colts as laughable right now. In fact they were anything but that and Ic an't point to a single play or point int he game thus far where Saturday is inhibiting the team

Should be an entertaining 2nd Half depending on what you are watching for
I had LVR -4 and it's not going well :lmao:
Raiders are the worst of the worst. If Saturday is a leader of men, McDaniels is the opposite x2. Whatever happens in this game likely won't be a sign of what's to come for Saturday and the Colts either way. The Colts' schedule for at least the next 3-4 games is brutal, so we're going to learn a lot about this team.

I've just been annoyed at the insults and venom being lobbed Saturday's way. It's unfair to say the least. Typical media though, wanting to make it a race issue when it's just not.

Today‘s media always wants to do that.
I'm so tired of it. But I'm from a biracial family, so I'm allowed to say that. Or am I? Or am I only allowed to be 50% outraged? We really need the media to give us a better rule set on all of this...
Be careful to not turn this into politics. That is a suspend-able offense now.
Thanks, wasn't trying to make it political. What did I say? "Woke?"

It's the Raiders, but it's also undeniable this team looks different under Saturday than it has under Reich all year long. It's amazing what happens when you run your offense through your best player. A blind man could see Reich underused Taylor.

That wasn’t it at all. He would run Taylor on first down 95% of the time making it 2 nd and 8, or do that quick short pass at the LOS, making it 2nd 9. His play calling was horrible. The OL has been horrible this year, but they played well today against a crappy Raiders defense.

Agree with that. Very uninspiring playcalling for an "offensive" mind. The most maddening were all the goal line carries Jt would get out of shotgun starting with him running sideways to the LoS.

This was the Raiders. I can't wait to watch everyone have to eat crow when they beat a real team. Confidence breeds winning, winning breeds confidence. This team is not devoid of talent by any stretch of the imagination.

Yes, he couldn’t get up a head of steam.

I like their defense. I’ve been disappointed in OL play and Ryan taking too long to get rid of the Ball.

Agree again. Some imagination in getting JT involved can cover up a lot of Ryan's issues though, and if Saturday can help anyone from a technical standpoint, it should be that O-line. I'm interested.

I said two years ago when everyone was slobbering all over the OL they were better at run blocking than pass blocking. Anthony Castonzo retirement before last season hurt more than I thought it would.

Well, they play the Eagles next week.
On paper, they don't really have another winnable game until week 18. It's possible they're not a betting favorite the rest of the season.

Philly is about the worst match-up possible at this stage for them, but how they handle the preparation, and how they handle the pretty much inevitable loss will be telling going into the next game against an improving Pittsburgh.

Irsay and Saturday served up a TON of crow today. And people better digest it and take the L. I was there. They looked like the better coached team from the beginning. This team is competent with Ryan minimizing turnovers and JT healthy. Defense tough enough. Great win. And Allegiant stadium was awesome. Far easier for me than going to SoFi in LA. AND I live 45 minutes from SoFi. Much easier to take a flight from Burbank. Cab to Mandalay Bay and watch the first half in the Sportsbook. Then walk over across the bridge. Similar set up to the Titans.

Maybe the Raiders should learn from Indy's example. Fire McDaniels and hire Howie Long.
It’s going to be funny when McDaniels is kicked to the curb, having failed in Denver and LV. Maybe he should try another division. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.
did he cheat on your mom?
No, but he did do the Colts a favor when he turned the job down and crawled back to New England. I expect he will do the same when he loses the Raiders job, just like he did when he lost the Denver job. He’s a sleaze.

the raiders are terrible no matter the coach, the roster is 3 players much like your colts

I disagree. The Colts have a pretty good defense

He cheated the Colts
He agreed to take the job and then suddenly he had 2nd thoughts

I don't like McDaniels for many of the reasons that Johnny states but it's nothing against you or the Raiders.

Nobody did nothing but let's keep it out of the range where people get offended

Taylor putting the Colts back up top

You can see Saturday's influence on the team right now.

They're not going quietly, in fact they seem to be coming right thru the front door at the moment
They just beat a terrible team.

There are no "joke" NFL teams. They are all uniquely talented. The difference is who exactly wants to play hard for their coach and management.

This was a road win for the "joke of a hire" head coach.

Raiders do suck but are the Colts any good exactly?

Taylor finally delivered. Ryan played efficient.

Let's see how they do against the Eagles- measuring stick of measuring sticks

If Saturday continues to look competent, like he actually belongs, a lot of people will owe him an apology. I'm very interested to see how the Colts look the next 4 games. Tough schedule.
I hear you, but most weren’t attacking Saturday. He seems like a decent guy and knows football. The talking heads I listen to all were attacking the “process” while seemingly wishing him well. I guess if he succeeds, they’ll owe Irsay an apology but that’s not going to happen. Most are interested in maintaining the status quo.
At least a few commented about how Saturday can probably maintain order within the team. That seems right, but we’ll see how it plays out the rest of the season.
The raiders are among the bottom feeders. How the team reacts over the next three weeks will be interesting. The games after the bye will be moreso imo, as their talent should be sufficient to possibly win the last three.
a head coach’s job is to inspire and have the right OC and DC. people overhype the head coach
Sorta, kinda. I wouldn’t give up our HC (Vrabel) for any other right now.

Again with the race? Im not sure what youve read to convince you that people are finding the hire rediculous because no black man was interviewed for the job but if the people you are listening to are saying that perhaps you need to listen to other people. If that IS NOT the case ( I certainly havent seen anybody making it about race besides you) and certainly havent hear anything about appeasing the woke. Then maybe you should consider why you keep bringing up race. and woke. I would find it no more or no less rediculous to hire Saturday if he were white, black, asian, or any other variation of skin color. Im not even sure if the rooney rule applies to midseason replacements ( Im assuming it doesnt)
I’ve not heard one person or the media bring race into it. I think he just wanted to use the word “woke” so went for it.

They did a whole segment on Amazon Prime on Thursday about black head coaches vis a vis the Saturday hire. Or at least they kept mentioning the Saturday hire and what his qualifications were.

I will admit I don't watch many pre-game or sports news shows anymore - but outside of the initial "Rooney Rule" discussions/concerns in here, I haven't heard to the extent I'd need to use dogwhistle words like "woke". Sounds like a lot of outrage over nothing - but this is my last comment on that.

Man, how can you say in one breath you don't watch the pre-game or news shows anymore and then dispute what I said? Ridiculous commentary on your part. Race was very much the topic on Amazon, NFL Network and ESPN not to mention all the internet outlets. If they'd have simply discussed the hire and Jeff's qualifications or lack there of, fairly, I never would have used the word "woke." But come on. The race baiting surrounding this hire was ridiculous and unfair to everyone involved. For starters, if you even care, find the replay of the TNF pregame discussing this hire and then come back and talk.
I've come to learn over the years that to a hammer everything looks like a nail. Obviously politics is not supposed to be addressed on these boards anymore - so we're done here.

🤷 I listen to about 5 different NFL podcasts. None of them referenced race with this hire. They just questioned the mindset of bringing in one of “their guys” (presumably meaning a Colts favorite player) who has no real experience above HS coaching. While at the same time referencing how Saturday should be able to keep the locker room from exploding.

Bill Cowher weighs in

Yikes!

For those who just want to focus on his words, I did not understand how Saturday was a consultant and then, well Cowher explains it better.
Insightful even if you disagree with him.

Don`t agree or disagree. If you own the team you get to hire whoever you want. Cowher is sounding like "Get off my lawn guy"

In MLB there have been many manager hires of ex-players who never coached or managed a game before.

Cowher is old school, hiring a guy out of espn isnt old school, Cowher respects coaches and what they go thru. But, if Saturday plays Ryan and runs the ball, I'm cool with it.

This was talked about on Speak (the one FS1 show I watch) right after the hiring, and the focus of all four hosts was on race. Joy Taylor, in particular, went in pretty hard.

First right coaching decision by Saturday was to bench Ehlinger. He isn’t an NFL QB IMO. The OL played inspired today. Then I remembered it was the Raiders.
So I thought the narrative was that these QB decisions were coming from Irsay not the coaches. This would seem to be Saturday's doing, although Ehlinger was so bad that it's possible Irsay had seen enough.

When the hire is discussed through the lens of the Rooney rule it automatically brings race into the discussion and many took that ball and ran with it. It was done in public, don't blame me, don't be lazy, it's all out there to look at and hear for yourself. You can go from there, but the quotes are out of place. Talk about his lack of experience, fine, but bringing race into the discussion is just stupid and unnecessary clickbait. I rewatched the TNF broadcast on Amazon and the whole thing was cringeworthy to say the least.

Maybe at some point we can start talking about Jeff Saturday's team winning a game no one gave them a shot in. They were a touchdown dog vs the worst coached team in the NFL, well, one of the two worst. Denver has to throw their hat into that discussion.

Some say the QB decisions were on Irsay, some say they were on Reich. Either way, Reich needed to go for putting the wrong QB in or not standing up to his owner to give his chance the best opportunity to win. Facts. Ryan was inserted as starter in Saturday's first game as a head coach. Saturday's team won their first game with Jeff as their head coach. Taylor saw his most meaningful usage since week 1. Defense held up.

Opinions. .All coaches on the field and the booth looked to have renewed energy. No one seemed pissy that Jeff was their coach, and Jeff very much looked to have the respect of everyone on that sideline.

It's fine if you want to disagree with anything I wrote, but let's not try to revise (very recent) history. Start with the TNF broadcast, then check look at Google and Twitter. Then tell me there wasn't race baiting. It's all on record. I'm not making this up. Race was very much a top 2 topic when discussing the Saturday hire. As they say, check the tape. I'm not even sure how this is being disputed lol.
I have no idea what was said on shows I didn’t watch. It’s entirely possible that the podcasts i have preferred in the past, therefore remain on my subscriptions have hosts that don’t choose to go after that kind of dialogue. 🤷 just saying the race talk wasn’t everywhere.

Of course, the other fact is the raiders are a hot mess with the second worst record, and the colts barely won. Which is better than Reich was doing.

Colts fans should be happy that Reich is gone but I wouldn’t get too excited. The Raiders are a bad team with a horrible defense. They were shut out by the Saints a couple weeks ago and the Saints got beat by the Steelers yesterday. We are talking about all bad teams here that have flaws all over the field.

Ehlinger won't be on the team in 2023 IMO. He's not even good enough to be a backup.

A few thoughts:

I was very surprised to see Ryan back as the starter. That destroyed a lot of preconceived notions the team was tanking, that it was all Irsay's doing going to Ehlinger. It was easy to pick up on words and tone of the Colts players when the move to Ehlinger was made and it was not good. If this was a Frank decision to go to Ehlinger that might have been him putting the final nail in his coffin, that move seemed to take the last of the gas out of the tank of the team and they started looking as tired as Frank was sounding.

On the other hand an easy but still brilliant call by Saturday to put Ryan back as the starter. I think that galvanized the team, at least for this week.

As a football fan I'd like to see Saturday succeed. Why? Because I think a lot of head coaches are way to full of themselves. Seeing someone with no experience come and succeed is going to be a blow to a lot of their egos, and maybe shake up some of the heavy nepotism based hires.

I'll be curious if team(s) who are able try and embarrass the Colts and run up the score, again when able. I think a lot of coaches, the vast majority, would relish seeing Saturday look bad. Nothing personal, just think some coaches would love to try and embarrass him and Irsay for making this hire.

People are forgetting that the Colts defense is pretty good and if the OL can keep Ryan upright most of the time and open some holes for JT, they are not going to get embarrassed often. Just my opinion of course.
