NFL Free Agency 2025? (1 Viewer)

We can agree to disagree but I can't dismiss a RB who performed just as well as Chubba and I sure can't see him not eating into his role.
I disagree he performed just as well.
You can look up the stats just like me.

Chubba, 1,195 yards rushing at 4.8 yards per carry. 43 receptions for 171 yards. 1,366 yards on 293 touches.

Rico, 1,079 yards rushing at 4.6 yards per carry, 39 receptions for 249 yards. 1,328 yards on 274 touches.

Chubba just scored a lot more TD's so if you want to include that fine but that's usually more a reflection of opportunity and good fortune.

I thought Dallas had a better OL & at times Rico came off the field for the ghost of Zeke Elliott.

I guess time will tell - the team certainly has more financial commitment to Chuba. I don’t expect RBBC, but I’ve been wrong before.

The funny thing about Chuba is that every year people come up with a reason to bury him, and then every year he just goes out and puts up rock solid borderline RB1 stats.

Free agency is like a marriage. Non stop action and fireworks the first day. Then a whole lot of waiting around with not much going on, hoping for something to happen. Then a sense of disappointment when something finally does and openly wondering about the decision-making process that went into it.

Every year?

Past two years. Chuba was supposed to be displaced by Miles Sanders but won the job rather quickly, all things considered (guaranteed money and duration of contract for Sanders) and then he was placeholding for Brooks and had a banger of a year.

I will admit Rico Dowdle will make one nervous (I didn't like the signing, but then I thought about this RB class and how it could be much worse), but I think Chuba is a better back. We'll see if Chuba is fully healed (and what does this tell us about Chuba's injury, which is something that realllly makes me nervous) and how they both handle the situation. Don't forget that Dowdle was derailed in college and the pros by injuries. He's not giving you a lock-it-down seventeen games.

I mean, if you look at the contracts, you'll see where the team really spent its money. I think Dowdle was 3-4 million dollars plus incentives to get to 6.25 million dollars.

Exactly. Perfectly said on all points.

Saved me a lot of typing, thanks!

Heh. Sorry for speaking for you, but I felt spry. Sometimes I'll just jump in when I see a dangling question that I think I might have an inkling about.

We've both rostered Chuba the past two years and seen what he can do—and if one was really attuned, one knew that he had hurt his ankle pretty significantly his last year at Oklahoma State and had a problem with the coach there a bit. But if you looked at the year before he had the injury, the talent was obviously there. I think he went over 2,000 yards, didn't he? Yes, he did. Check out his 2019 stats. They're kind of ridiculous. He was a unanimous and consensus All-American alongside Jonathan Taylor. Taylor won the Doak Walker Award that year.

Not too shabby.

This is a biased website (OkSt), but it gives you an idea of how good he really was in 2019.

Waldman has also said he's improved his game a bunch, so there's that also.

Besides playing better than expected (by fantasy fans) the last several years, Hubbard did it on a team that was mostly just terrible.
Now it’s an improving one. I’m excited.

Look, even if Dowdle gets some run & @menobrown is right about RBBC, (which he certainly could be) I have to believe there will be more touches available to split with the offensive improvements the team has made to the line & at QB with Bryce’s 2nd half development.

Should work out ok for Chuba shareholders regardless.

Dallas signed Miles Sanders.

Second time already in FA that RB’s traded teams. Miles and Rico, Mattison and Mostert.
Humor me. Any way this means that the cowboys don’t draft an RB high and my Javonte shares just improved? A boy can dream.

I can't sit idly by and watch you do this to yourself. They're drafting somebody. Where they draft him will be the tell. Javonte is slow these days, and that's not a good thing to be for a running back.

So you’re saying there’s a chance?!

Christmas comes in different ways and at different times of the year for everyone, I guess.

I guess this can just go in here and not be its own thread...

Little bored on a Friday afternoon. Let's guesstimate where these guys end up. There seems to be maybe 3 openings for these guys if we assume Cam Ward goes 1.1 to the Titans.

open seats
Browns
Giants
Steelers

candidates
Rodgers
Wilson
Cousins
Sanders

I'll guess Rodgers to Steelers, Wilson to the Giants and at least 1 of Cousins/Sanders to Browns, maybe both.

Mehki Becton to the Charges on a 2 year deal. Makes sense, some real road graders for Najee/rookie.
Had two initial thoughts.

Good for Najee.

Wondering why Seattle did not get involved. I know they are bringing in Jenkins and have 5 quality draft picks but they need so much help on that OL. It's messing with their entire offense IMO, can't establish a consistent rushing attack.

You are all a lot higher on Mason then I am.

Fact he’s a RFA is only reason I think he has a shot of staying in SF, would all but guarantee he’s gone if he was an UFA.

Don’t hate him, in fact already drafted him this year in one of my few drafts I’ve finished but I think he’s just a high quality 2 down backup in terms of talent.

Steelers are the team I had in my head when I drafted him that I think makes sense and would be a plus landing spot.
I think he is a top 15 runner in the league as of right now, but we have not seen enough in the passing game to know the extent of his capabilities there (looked capable on his whopping 14 targets last year). I think MIN would be a great fit (and they saw him run for a 100 against them last year), but with the incoming talent at RB in this class teams may be prone to search in the draft versus free agency (although in MIN case they currently do not have a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th round pick in this draft).
Boom…wished it into existence…

Take a bow...that is an impressive call!

No credit deserved, just thought it was a good fit. So the Niners gave him a second round tender and he is had for a sixth….how does that make sense?

Exactly what I was thinking...that is some odd math...just a guess but I think this could be one of the more underrated moves this offseason.

I'm not seeing it like apparently everyone else is seeing , he was really as productive as Chubba was last year. Main difference was for fantasy they let Chubba run the ball more in the red zone and he scored a lot of Td's. Not saying he's taking his job, but I am saying I think it's going to be more of a RBBC.
Gonna agree to disagree on this one.

Feels like Chuba has the RB1 job & Rico will get the scraps.

Gotta have depth. Rico feels like depth to me.
We can agree to disagree but I can't dismiss a RB who performed just as well as Chubba and I sure can't see him not eating into his role.
Yeah, Dowdle isn’t there for the “scraps”.

As it turns out, they tagged him to trade him, price need not matter.
