After 3 weeks, who has the early track on NFL MVP? I think there ae a lot of potential guys thus far. Maybe we can see the field shrink as the weeks go bye.

QBs:

Grossman

Manning

McNabb

Palmer

Hassy

Vick

Brees

RBs:

LT

Westy

R. Johnson

Bush

Dunn

McAllister

WRs:

D. Jackson

J. Walker

Defensive:

R. Lewis

Merriman

Anyone else that should be mentioned I'm missing?

Believe it or not, my early vote goes to Grossman. He has been very good and pulled through in a clutch moment vs Minn. It helps that his team is 3-0.

How is Javon a top candidate over any of the other top 5 WRs in the stats thus far?

With as bad as Indys running game seems this year, i see massive numbers for Harrison/Wayne this year, you have to consider either of them over J Walker imo

Come on.... If a Colt wins it it will be Manning. No questions asked.

Nice list!My money is on LT.

It is what it is said:
Clinton Portis and Terrell Owens should both be on the list. They both may not currently be on the par statistically with your early track guys, but nobody can deny the impact they both have on their respective teams when healthy. Portis 160+ total yards and 2 touchdowns in 3 quarters yesterday was the dominant performance MVP's are made of. ;) If the call had to be made right now, I would say Michael Vick.BTW, nice call on listing Javon Walker
Beat me too Portis. I think he actually has a very good chance even though startingt late. TO, I'm just gonna have to wait and see after the surgery 1st I'd say.

Kind of curious why Pennington isn't on that list of QBs. With no running game, you've got to give some credit to the QB of a 2-1 team with a 103 passer rating.

I should add some dark horses:Big Ben
I would add Daunte Culpepper as well. ;)
Yes, your both right. Absolutly now possible way that the last 2 games have been an exception to Ben's career thus far.He very easily can turn his season around. The Steelers very easily can get back to the playoffs. The team still looks very strong and all it should take is Ben getting back to the play thathe is capable of. Good players don't stay down for long. Ben is a good player.

Kerry Rhodes, seriouslyAfter 3 games, maybe Toomer or Coles deserve to be considerred. Eh I don't know. Rhodes definitely thoughfrom game recaps at NFL:last week, 1 of 2 fumbles caused, creditted with 2 sacks for a SThe Jets then took control on the Bills' opening possession of the third quarter when safety Kerry Rhodes rushed around the right corner and got around McGahee's weak block. Rhodes got to Losman and stripped the ball, which squirted toward the line of scrimmage. Hobson picked it up and rumbled down the left sideline for a touchdown. The Bills failed to challenge the score despite replays showing Hobson stepped out of bounds at the Buffalo 3. *******week 2, creditted with a sack here tooThe Jets recovered a fumble by Brady when safety Kerry Rhodes blitzed and hit the quarterback's right arm. Bryan Thomas recovered the ball and Nugent, who missed two field goals and an extra-point in the opener, kicked a 42-yarder to make it 24-17. *******INT in week 1

Its Westbrook so far...
:goodposting: I'd vote Westbrook with Vick in a close second. Both have been one man wrecking crews.
I vote mcnabb & palmer so far.If westbrook goes down, the pass happy philly o will still be ok. If mcnabb goes down, philly's in trouble.
That's a very good point, actually. I considered McNabb, as he's been lights out, and leaned towards Westy because of his insane amount of td's so far. But yes, without McNabb the Eagles are DONE.

Based on the three games already played, I'd vote for McNabb out of the QBs. At RB, probably Brian Westbrook -- except that I don't want to nominate two Eagles, so maybe Warrick Dunn instead. At WR, probably Laveranues Coles.

I think Chester Taylor may be a darkhorse candidate who may step up even more in the upcoming weeks... 3 very good games thus far against 3 of the best defenses in football...

The original question in the first post was: "After 3 weeks, who has the early track on NFL MVP?" Ben is in about 30th place among QBs. He could turn things around, but he doesn't have the early track after three weeks.

Ummm, why exactly do you think I made a seperate post for DARKHORSES?

You were bored? That's why I would have done it.

david carr

no seriously can u imagine the texans with a qb that had a rating under 100

i bet people dont realize he leads the league in qb rating

LT is the only RB to consider. By far the best in the league. Manning is the leading candidate at QB with McNabb having the only chance to displace him. No WR is in the running for MVP. However, I think defense may rule the top teams this year, so I would not be surprised at the MVP being a defensive player.

So run more often and pass less?

Well it looks like the real Mike Vick is back tonight, so let's take him off the list, thanks.

And why is Bush on this list? Just because a team is 2-0, it doesn't automatically qualify every offensive player for mvp.

I coulnd't disagree any more with these 2 points.
What's so wrong with those points? The only RB who could vie with LT at this point is Westbrook, and the only QB who looks as good as Manning is McNabb... seems reasonable to me.

I was wondering why McCallister was on the list
Same here. Drew Brees has more reason to be on there than those two. Too much Katrina kool-aid?Today my vote would go to McNabb. He's the reason they should be 3-0, the D is why they're not.
Teams that are undefeated can certainly put several players in the running when the team itself is still looking for an identity, like NO is. NO is no 3-0 and still, I have no clue who will emerge or who even has emerged as teh stand out guy. Brees gets first dibs for being QB, but both Bush and McAlister could easily take that over.

I should add some dark horses:

Big Ben
High comedy here. Dude?
Not as funny as the Seahawk fans who are the only ones seeming to have a problem with it.
I don't understand. He has 0 TDs and 5 INTs. How could he be considered an early favorite for MVP? Sure, I guess anyone could turn it around, but so far he's more of a LVP. No?Why mention Seattle? What does being a Seahawk homer have to do with this? Are you under the impression I'm somehow bitter towards Pittsburgh because of the Super Bowl? I guess you don't know me very well. I have Rothlisberger on my rosters. I dig the Steelers and hope they have a great season. I have tons of respect for their franchise.

Way too early to tell, BUT...

It has to be Rex Grossman right now as the early clubhouse leader. 3-0, 6 TD passes, No less than 260 yards passing in a game yet. 100.9 QB rating

#2 Peyton Manning

#3a Donovan McNabb

#3b Carson Palmer

If all the above were undefeated, the distinction would go to McNabb, IMO.
