NFL playoff tiebreaking question (1 Viewer)

Our league runs the playoffs the same as the NFL does - but a question has come up and it's warping my brain to try and answer.

We have 2 divisions, and the division winners get a bye week 14.

If 3 teams are tied on overall record after week 13 (lets say at 8-5 which is looking likely). Teams A, B and C.

Team A split with B in their two games. Team A also split with B in their two games. Team B won both games vs team C in their two games.

Does B automatically get the bye since they are 3-1 vs the other two? Or do we need to go to the next step?

You're shadowing The NFL so division record should be the tiebreaker with more than 2 teams involved.

Easy fix is to make total points the tiebreaker,rewards the best overall team for the season. just my 2 cents

We used to have points, we wanted this to match the NFL.

But if I'm reading the NFL rules corrected, when 3 or more teams are tall tied on record, the first tiebreaker is "Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games among the clubs)." So you look at all the head to head games between these 3 teams. A is 2-2, B is 3-1, and C is 1-3. So B gets the bye over A and C, even though A and C split. At least that's how I read it.

Yes, but the rule should be worded as "head to head record between all the tied teams" if not expect some one to ##### and moan and make a semantic argument.

You need a vote by the league.

It seems clear you need to add a rule next year, but for this year you can't just put a rule in place
