NFL Red Zone (1 Viewer)

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on NFL Red Zone this year. I have Fios and, as far as I can tell, they only offer it as a separate add-on for $49.99/season. I'm extremely jealous that Comcast customers get it as part of their Sports Entertainment Packagae (and, no, I'm NOT going back to Comcast for this).

For those of you who have it, is it worth it? Comes out to be about $3/week, but I know there are at least 2 weeks I won't be using it. Let me also add that I am a Steelers Fan living in Philly so this may be my only opportunity some weeks to see any Steelers action.

Steelers fan living in the Boston area & love it. I have comcast but if I had to I would pay the $50. Between redzone & JustinTv you can catch a lot of the games

Big fan of Red Zone. They do a great job of switching between games and keeping you up to date, without it being confusing or annoying. It's the best way to keep up on the entire day's action.

I think the thing I like the best is NO COMMERCIALS.

My ADD is so bad I can't watch a regular game anymore with the continuous ads.

It is way worth it. On Uverse, they have it as 6.99 a month as part of their premium hd tier. I actually prefer it to the NFL ticket because they only focus on showing live action where scoring is likley. Plus they have in house announcers who are directing the action and multiple splitscreens when necessary. $49.00 for the whole season is an absolute steal.

As a FIOS customer also, from what I read I thought it is included if you have the Ultimate HD package. I hope so at least...

If you're interested in watching full games, obviously not worth it. But after 1 week of the RedZone I was hooked the rest of the season. It's really good, especially for fantasy players. Pretty much get to see all the scores either live or shortly after (since there's multiple red zone opportunities going at times). If there's no red zone action, they'll usually just leave a competative game running until there is. It's definitely worth the money. I'm just mad that Dish seems to have split their sports package away from their top 200 so you have to pay extra compared to last year to get the RedZone and NFL Network.

You need to get it. That price sucks because with dish it comes in the sportspackage for $6/month.
Dish is advertising $7 a month. Also, did anyone with Dish have the RedZone in HD last year? I'm pretty positive mine wasn't in HD on channel 155. Maybe the studio was HD, but the games definitely were not. The channel also currently shows up even though I don't have the sports package, but I get the feeling if I leave it go until game time Sunday it won't show anything.

Love the RedZone. Add it to AT&T Uverse for $5/month (with like 4 other channels?) just Sept-Jan...then turn it off again.

It is Fantasy Sweetness. Take a leak before you sit down to watch...you won't be getting up for hours.

I had RedZone in HD last year. Channel 154 on Dish. RedZone is totally worth $49.99 ($7/month on Dish). FTW

154 is NFL Network. Do they run the RedZone on that as well? Doesn't make sense since NFL Network isn't packaged with the RedZone channel. I don't even know why there'd be a standard def version of it in the first place, but I do know the picture quality wasn't very good. Maybe something was just screwy last year. Have to wait and see I guess.

Same here on both counts. I watched about half a game on Sunday afternoon all last year. The only thing that sucks is that you can't pause it and walk away and do something and come back. There's no way to catch up. No commercials to catch up during...

Sorry to be the only naysayer on this thread about RedZone, but I wouldn't spend my money on it. Don't you guys think it cheapens the game a little? I mean, call me a purist but football is so much more than just the touchdowns. Great offensive plays between the 20's, special teams plays, great defensive stops, all of that is part of the joy of watching this game we all love. RedZone is designed PURELY for the fantasy nuts, who care more about thier teams than whats actually going on with actual teams in actual games. I say that while being as much of a fantasy nut (or more of one) as any other person out there. But I love football. And RedZone is NOT FOOTBALL. An earlier poster mentioned JustinTV as an option to get the games. I use that option and find that while its lacking (poor video quality often, freezes up, channels getting randomly shutdown, broadcasters stupidly changing the channel on you) it's still better than RedZone, and alot cheaper too.

Directv customer here. I am not allowed it by them. Hopefully once the season starts they will realize it should be offered and they will make money off it.

Cablevision custmer and would pay for it in a second if it was on cablevision BUT the dolans refuse to allow it. I watched it last year on Justin TV BUT would have paid for it if it was avaliable for me.

Get another TV, best of both worlds.

Redzone not available where I am, however I would, without any hesitance, buy it if it became a PC streaming thing where I can get a quality stream. (I do know about the Justin.TV stuff)

I wish Cox Cable would give me that option

If you only follow your team or maybe 2 teams, then it isn't worth it. But if you are a hardcore NFL guy then it is great to watch as many teams as possible. If I had the Redzone Channel I would never have to watch a Skins game again.

Hopefully the NFL Network does show the Redzone replays that they started doing at around week 12 or so. Enjoy that.

so many accurate comments in here:

1) totally worth it

2) the sad thing is that often it is better than watching a real game

3) no commercials make me smile big!

4) definitely loses steam after the first set of games - redzone is great when they are bouncing around amongst like 8 games. when there's only 4 afternoon games you end up seeing just a bunch of highlights you already saw from the first set of games.

So i prefer redzone for the 1 pm games, then either i don't watch at 3, or watch a specific game on broadcast tv.

I have Directv and they only give it to the Ticket customers. No way I'm paying for that. I would definitely get RedZone if it was stand alone for me. Wonder if its in their contract that they can't give it as a stand alone. Doesnt make sense not to have people pay for RedZone by itself.

Dish Network customer and LOVE it. I don't watch it when my Vikings are on, but watch it over other games otherwise. $7 a month well worth it even though all of the fox sports channels you get with it suck because you can't watch any baseball games (blacked out). Subscribe to the package in August and unsubscribe in January.

Don't have it, but watched a stream of it last season while I would watch my local game. Fantastic channel.

Only problem with watching streams is that it's about a minute behind the action, so a touchdown will get scored and you won;t see it on the stream until later.

had it last year its great for the noon games, but once the 3PM games start it looses steam as there are less games.
During the afternoon games here, they still showed live action. So if there no teams are in the redzone, they show the most interesting game in its entirety

That's what I thought.
I just checked the Verizon site and you're right. I only have the Extreme HD Pacakge, not the Ultimate HD. I'll have to call and see what the price differential is between the two packages. Maybe it will make the choice that much easier.

ditto...just renewed @$7/mo--when there is a game worth watching, I watch ittoo many times the games are:

a) a snoozer...I switch to the Redzone

b) another commercial derails the game I am interested in...I switch to the Redzone

c) the 8-1 o'clockers hit halftime...I switch to the Redzone

@ 29 cents/hr, a f'n no brainer :goodposting:

3.1 almost no punts or kickoffs eitherdentist is right about all of the above points. i like andrew siciliano as a host too.

NFL Network's RedZone and Directv's Red Zone are two different channels. As a Directv customer you might be able to get Red Zone for free if you talk to the right people in customer service.http://thelandryhat.com/2010/08/06/free-re...l-from-directv/

I love the Red Zone so much that I dropped my NFL package this year and am just going for the Red Zone only. Last year I paid like $300 for the ticket and pretty much just watched the Red Zone all the time. I think Andrew Siciliano is great, I loved how he referred to JaMarcus Russell as "JaAwful". lmao.

Red Zone is nice when the regular game is a crumby matchup. Here in Tampa Bay, they are going to black out all the local games this year and give us boring Dolphin games

But I agree with that one guy that said that it aint real football. It's like fantasy footbull with a dose of ten red bulls. I enjoy watching the entire game, and monitor the battle along the lines. I think the sad fact about fantasy football is that so many forget who they are fans of. They just latch on to the next thing. It's much more interesting to have a conversation with a dyed in the wool fan who watches his teams games nonstop, without the interruption of worrying about how your fantasy player is doing.

It's not fair, but in general, the RedZone watching audience doesn't have a clue about how real football is played. Reminds you of the senior citizens mindless tapping video poker buttons with a half burnt cigarette hanging from their mouth at 3 AM.

Bottom line, I like to watch RZ if convenient, but if there is a game I care about, my team or division rival, I'll wait to see the highlights.

I just ordered NFL Red Zone from Cox, $39.99. They just started offering it in my area, you might want to give them a call.

You come off as a bitter old man...seriously? It is for sure real football. People who actually have lives can't justify the time to sit and analyze games that are not their teams. You must be on 'fun'employment.

It just came our market (along with the NFL Network) through the local cable company (suddenlink). When I saw the ads start running for it, I called and asked how much it was going to be. They told me it would come with the $9/mo. sports tier.

Then I asked them how much it would be if I dropped all TV service & just kept my internet access so I could switch to Direct TV. The guy said let me check on something and when he came back he said they would give the sports tier free, plus a free DVR & expanded HD channels.

SUWHEET T1TTIES!

Funny thing is, I would have probably paid the $9/mo. to get it if they hadn't made me the silly offer.

I couldn't disagree more with almost all of this.

Anyone know if you can buy the redzone and watch it online?

I have a home theater PC and have it hooked up to my bigscreen.

I have Directv but there is no way I am paying $300 again for the ticket.

I dont think there is a way to watch the verizon redzone online. HTPC is awesome, very cool. But cant you get a friend or someone to give you their "to go" option and you pay them? I think this is the best option.Or how about haggling the price for the ticket, many on here have done it with great success.

I'm a HUGE supporter of NFL REDZONE. Greatest channel ever made. Way too much excitement. It has to be the perfect channel for fantasy football players. I'm a COMCAST subscriber so i guess i'm lucky. But if they were to change the plan and charge $50 for the year...i'd do it.
