I found this just by looking at the PFR tight ends page (http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/teindex.htm) and clicking through a dozen or so names most likely to be at the top. So don't consider these gospel or anything.
Man, I'm horrible at trivia. Wrong player on one and wrong year on the other. That stat by Dave Parks is amazing. Playing with those rules and only 14 games is amazing.
Some places call him a split end, others call him a tight end. Even PFR's position listings sometimes get intermingled, so not sure what to call him . . .
For future refernce for these types of questions, you can use the HISTORICAL DATA DOMINATOR availble through the main FBG site. It uses the same databasebase as PFR, so the info should be the same.

According to PFR, it's Kellen Winslow for yardage in 1980 with 1290 yards. There are some hybrid TE/HB/WR players ahead of him, but for a true TE, it's him.
Gates in 2004 with 13 td's holds it for most TD's in a season by TE.
