IIRC, the NFLPA filed colusion charges to due the lack of interest in free agents last off season, based mostly on the premise that teams were already preparing for a lockout and thus were not going to sign free agents to big or long term deals.

Look, the owners are not blameless in this. But the head of the NFLPA is a trial lawyer and this is all this guy knows , lawsuits. He has no interest in negotiating. He wants to either win the suit dealing with the 4.5 billion payment to owners if there are no games or play the victim in a lockout. Until one of those things happens, this guy may do nothing. Its about his legacy. Its certainly not about the fans. D is trouble with a capital T.

This is exactly why I worry about next season. Everything I have read about this guy seems to indicate "his" legacy is much more important than those he represents, let alone the game we all love.

Trial Lawyers negotiate all the time - for settlements in civil litigations and for plea bargains in criminal cases.

Cromartie needs a new deal.

The New York Daily News reports the morning after the Jets’ came up short in their Super Bowl-or-bust season, CB Antonio Cromartie let everyone know exactly how he feels about the NFL’s uncertain labor landscape. The Jets cornerback was critical of both the NFL and NFLPA. “Honestly, I don’t give a damn if they get mad at me or not,” Cromartie said. “But it’s getting to the point where it’s getting ridiculous when everything is always dealing with money. You’re basically dealing with people’s livelihoods… You’re dealing with hundreds of thousands of other people in this workplace from the venues to everyone else. To me, you need to stop #####ing about it. If you want to say that you want to get into a room and meet. Then, do it. Don’t just talk about it.” You got our head union rep acting like an #####,” Cromartie added. “They got their guys acting like a-holes. So they just need to get their sh-- together and just get it done.” "I got kids to feed......somewhere."

"I got kids to feed......somewhere."

Sounds like someone didn't take the unions advice to save a few paychecks to tie him over during the work stoppage.

In other words, "I really wish people would stop focusing on the money so much... so I can get paid". When he started to talk about "hundreds of thousands of people" I thought he might actually get it but no, it's about feeding his kids. Single moms and the unemployed need to feed their kids. Premier NFL CB's need a new beach house.

Where are you reading this? Everything I've read and heard about him since the day Smith was elected indicates that he's the perfect guy for this job. What is it you've seen that tells you he is only interested in his "legacy" and that his personal interests are in conflict with his clients' interests?
