NHL Off-Season thread:Down goes Kane! (1 Viewer)

Edmonton felt it could provide a prettier cornucopia of draft picks, but for Peter Chiarelli, the price was going to be higher, since Boston’s worry of an offer sheet from him started all this. The Oilers were not going to include Darnell Nurse. Teams were upset that they didn’t know of Hamilton’s availability until it was too late, probably because the Bruins preferred to send him West.
sounds like the Bruins were worried about an offer sheet from the Oilers...not the Flames.
5. You don’t need to look hard to find reaction to Boston’s moves.

I’m more curious about practical analysis, as in, what does this tell us about the new regime? One GM compared it to “Harry Sinden running the team again.” What he meant was Hamilton and Milan Lucic made contract asks the Bruins didn’t like, and rather than doing much negotiating, pulled the trigger.

To be fair, Don Sweeney was up against a July 1 offer sheet possibility, although not with Lucic.

The best information I can give you is it appears the team offered six years and $33M to Hamilton, while the response was about $2M per year higher.

Sometimes, we get caught up in initial proposals. Any good negotiator will tell you to exaggerate your opening position. As for Lucic, I’m not sure money was discussed. This was about term. He opened with eight years. Don’t think Boston wanted to go higher than five.
As soon as Chiarelli was hired as GM in Edmonton the rumors of an Offer Sheet for Dougie Hamilton started. Not sure if there was any truth to it or if people were just connecting dots because Oilers are so desperate for blueline help and Chiarelli came from Boston. There is one local reporter that was insisting on Saturday that the Oilers were still contemplating an Offer Sheet for Hamilton. Not sure if they can even do it after the trade to Calgary, but I'm not aware of a reason they can't.

Mike Richards finally placed on waivers with intent to buyout, will receive 14.67m over ten years from the Kings.

Not using the compliance buyout last year is going to sting.

Cap hits by years:

2015-16 - $1,216M

2016-17 - $1,716M

2017-18 - $2,716M

2018-20 - $4,216M

2020-25 - $1,466M

.
Thank God Homer doesn't have the keys anymore.
Yeah he's still the gift that keeps on taking. Hexy still has some of his work to undo, but he's getting there.

Unless they use a Gagner buyout to add someone better, I don't see why they wouldn't give this kid a shot. Yeah he's terrible defensively, but he can't be much worse then what they would trot out there currently on the roster. He's still young and playing for another contract, maybe he's motivated to prove something and he gets his game together, couldn't hurt to take a look see. Brayden Schenn puts up 40 points and somehow he's good with upside, when in reality he sucks too.

The Carolina Hurricanes sent Anton Khudobin to the Anaheim Ducks for James Wisniewski.
Canes fans are acting like this Wisniewski trade was a steal, he is a #6 Dman right?
He was so bad on D they benched him for the entire playoffs. It was also a salary dump. Despres was a nice surprise.

Gibson and Anderson were both out for 8 games last year. Gibson can still be sent to the minors next year.

So any guesses on what Mike Richards did?

Caught carrying suitcases of coke from Tijuana? Has to be something pretty good, right?

The team was already in the process of trying to trade him -- discussions were in place with both the Edmonton Oilers and the Calgary Flames -- but Kings general manager Dean Lombardi immediately informed both teams upon learning about the situation that he had no prior knowledge of the incident and halted those talks, according to a source.

"He came right over to me," Oilers general manager Peter Chiarelli confirmed to ESPN.com. "He pulled me aside and said, 'Hey, Pete, this is going to come out. I had no idea. This is important you know so that talks [don't go any] further.'"

Lombardi did the same with Flames GM Brad Treliving on the draft floor, a source said.

Damn,

But it has to be something bad enough to get you fired but not bad enough to get you arrested.

Did Pierre McGuire out the reason why the Kings terminated the contract of Mike Richards for a “material breach” of his deal?

While the NHL on NBC Sports analyst didn’t get into the hard details on TSN 690’s Melnick in the Afternoon show in Montreal, McGuire indicated the incident that led to the Kingss decision happened at a border crossing. Here is the link and we’ve displayed the transcript below. The segment starts at around the 9:17 mark.

Melnick: “Somebody in the know is telling me something happened with Mike Richards at a border crossing.”

Pierre: “Correct … I’m not going to talk about it until it’s made public. I have a pretty good idea of what’s happened.”

Melnick: “So the information I have, you can confirm that?”

Pierre: “Your information is probably pretty accurate.”

A lawyer spoke on TSN radio yesterday about the Richards situation. He knows what Richards did and thinks the Kings will have a hard time winning this claim.

It's about 10 minutes, listen here: http://www.tsn.ca/radio/ottawa-1200/macramalla-termination-of-richards-will-be-tough-for-kings-1.321374

Can't imagine doing something so terrible at a border crossing and not being arrested for it but bad enough to have a contract terminated. Taking a guess and thinking Deano is throwing up a Hail Mary hoping to avoid the cap ramifications and payout going forward. Pretty lame if that's the case.

IMO, what Mike Richards' did will come out today or tomorrow. Too many people know and are waiting for the story to break.

Hearing Richards' border issue is substance related. Don't know if he was drunk and created a scene or was carrying or something else.

Maybe Sather can make up for the Talbot debacle by offering the Bruins Tanner Glass. Seems like they will accept anything these days
