NHL Off-Season thread:Down goes Kane! (1 Viewer)

Will the Wild be able to compete in the playoffs when it's found out Vanek bet on hockey games he played in?
Probably not. I'm sure they'd be 3-7 right now if not for the one goal he's tallied this season.

Red Wings have to start using Monster in shootouts, ridiculous how bad Howard is.
I think I saw this once in a HS tournament game, but has a backup goalie ever done this in the NHL? Not that I can recall.

There was talk radio and fan discussion a few years back, when Backstrom was top dog, that the Wild should've been using Harding for shootouts but I don't know that they ever did.

Caps are ungood. Defensive zone turnover #1000 of the season has them down to the Yotes.
Yeah that was a pretty bad game after the 1st period for them for sure.

Biggest problem I see is once a turnover is made the goaltendiing just isn't good enough to clean up the mistakes they make.Holtby has a .895 save percentage 5 on 5,a .876 SP 5 on 5 in close games and a .885 SP while shorthanded. This becomes a bigger issue when Peters is actually worse.

The fancy stats say they are actually a much better team in front of Holtby. The Corsi For % ranks them 6th at 53.4 and the Fenwick For % has them 5th at 54.2.These are indicators of what should be a better team in the long haul if they maintain it but with the goaltending faltering it tends to sway things the other way(losses).

Mike Green has been fantastic so far, getting him away from the top lines and keeping his minutes down seems to do the trick right now.7 of his points are 5 on 5 and his pairing with Schmidt has clicked right away.Once Orlov is ready this makes it a tough choice to sit Schmidt now.

I want to see more of Kuznetsov in the top 6 and also love Wilson playing on the top line with 8 and 19.Brings toughness and he actually has decent enough hands to be able to chip in from time to time offensively.

Rangers down to 4 d. 2 of them were not on the opening day roster
Any word on how long McDonagh is out for? How long is typical for separated shoulder?
3-4 weeksKlein already ruled out for tomorrow
yeah, not good.

Rangers have 4 games this week after just 2 last week, schedule is super heavy.

I swear I never wanted to see Kostka wear a Rangers jersey again...and he looked o.k. Saturday. Wonder if McIlrath will get any time up. Need a physical presence out there. Girardi gonna play 30/night?

Wonder if Stepan ever going to make it back. Could really use another scoring forward right now.

McIlrath and Allen have already been called up.

Trotz after the game last night

“The behavior has to change,” Capitals coach Barry Trotz said after the Capitals’ 6-5 loss to the Arizona Coyotes. “We’ve done this multiple times.

“… We took a lot of penalties, we turned a lot of pucks over. It’s the same old story and it’s too old for me.”

Asked if some of those old mistakes are the byproducts of the way the Caps have played in years’ past, Trotz made his most biting comments since taking over for Adam Oates last summer.

“I’m not going to comment on it," he said. "You guys have lived it more than I have. But I will say this: That behavior has to change or we have to change people. Plain and simple. To me it’s absolutely unacceptable. They have to fix it. It’s my job to fix the behavior. If they’re not going to fix it internally, then I’ll make sure I fix it.”
I hope he sticks to his word here, time will tell.

Ference suspended for three games.

I grabbed the Oilers game as one of my five this year because I haven't seen them in forever. Now, no Ference comeback and no Hall. :kicksrock:

How good is Jori Lehtera? Obviously, he's playing with Tarasenko and Schwartz which is helping his production. I am getting unsolicited interest in him.

Put it this way: People in STL are calling the Lehtera/Tarasenko combo the best Blues combo since Hull and Oates. The two have unreal chemistry.

Carey Price makes a sick save and as the puck is coming outta the air and possibly going into the net he jumps backwards throwing his blocker and glove up to keep the puck from going in. Really unbelievable.

Katie Strang: According to statement from Gordie Howe's family, Howe is recovering at a "remarkable rate." Family wants to thank fans/friends for support

"We've won 3 straight, what do you think we should do about the lineup"

"Change everything, make sure you split up that Kadri-Kessel combination that's been working so well, go back to playing the 4th line 5 minutes a night, start the backup a 2nd straight game, even though he only played last one because it was the 2nd of a back to back"

--- Randy Carlyle, apparently.

Wild's guaranteed cup might take a hit:

@russotrib: Parise upper body injury. Yeo said "sure hope" it's not serious #mnwild

11:08pm - 4 Nov 14

Pens played some stifling D last night. tight neutral zone, great gap control by the D men, good board battles...really shut down a lot of the flow and kept the Wild attack at bay most of the night until the 3rd. the kind of performance the Wild would be criticized for in the past for playing "boring". great road win by them. Wild had one pulled off the board which would have made for a great finish. schedule finally lightens up a bit after a tough start, blew a couple games but still came out of it very well. hopefully Parise is alright but this team is deep enough to sustain without him. would be nice to get Spurgeon back sooner than later though, Prosser has been fighting it a lot this year.

Braden Holtby now with the 2nd worst SP among all goalies 5 on 5 at an awesome 88.9(Cam Ward the only other worse).

Caps are playing a good puck possession game but once a mental mistake happens Holtby just isn't good enough right now to make that crucial save.In contrast,Luongo has a 96.5 to lead the league.

Gonna be another long season if this continues.

Damn. I was hoping he'd become a UFA and Greiss would take over. MAF has had a good start and they rewarded him. Hopefully, he will keep it up.

Sean Avery's Theater Debut Derailed By Pizza-Related Rehearsal Meltdown

That's a good headline. Really tells a story. Are you sure you even want the details, or should we just leave it at that?

OK, let's do it. Former hockey guy Sean Avery has dabbled in fashion journalism and real estate and most recently acting, and was all set to make his debut with a significant role in the play "Negative Is Positive," which was to debut off-Broadway tomorrow. That is until Avery had himself a little meltdown during yesterday's rehearsal. Page Six has the report:

On Monday, Avery left rehearsals early after growing agitated. On Tuesday, Avery's behavior grew worse. According to [author Christy] Smith-Sloman, when a young assistant stage manager named Natalie asked the athlete-turned-actor if he wanted a slice of pizza, he said no, but somehow thought the assistant had called him an [bleep]hole."
"He said I was 'talking [bleep]' and said I was 'so full of [bleep],'" Natalie, who was left in tears, told us. "That's when I realized that I was dealing with a madman."
Next, director Andreas Robertz said Avery told him, "Don't you know who I am?!" and stormed out.
The play's author says she doesn't want Avery back, so if you had tickets for opening night, know that the role of George will instead be played by David M. Farrington. (Take that, Playbill.)
Deadspin
