NHL Off-Season thread:Down goes Kane! (1 Viewer)

@MikeHeika: Late to the party, but confirmed that Stars send Erik Cole and conditional 3rd rounder to Detroit for Janmark-Nylen, Backman and 2nd.

I really dont like this trade. They didnt need defensive help. Not seeing how this helps them other than being able to resign zuuc
To me, that's really what they needed. Bolster their defense.Very happy with the moves.
they have given up 152 goals. Tied for second in the conference
More about puck possession and transition than typical defensive play. Rangers got a lot out of Stralman last year and definitely have missed him.

In the end, Jake Allen kicked a puck in that should have counted. But a whistle was clearly blown before he kicked it. Baffling that goal was counted.

I like the Cole acquisition, top 6 forward who has experience playing on championship teams. A right-handed D-man would be nice too, but I like Cole to mix into this younger lineup especially if Franzen is dead.

Such a weird game in Vancouver tonight.

The aforementioned allowed goal after a blown whistle.

Blues allow 5 after starting 2-0

Allen gets pulled to start the 3rd, Elliott quickly allows a goal and pulls himself and confronts Hitchcock

Blues with a 3 goal comeback in the 3rd

Yep. Thinking mostly about their transition game. Too many mistakes leading to chances.

Ron Wilson trashing the Leafs on TSN right now :D

Wilson: "It's all my fault because I've been rooting against the Leafs." "I don't want them to win.

Ducks trade Heatley and a 3rd for Fleischmann.
So Florida gets some cap relief and a 3rd round pick, Anaheim gets the better of two players on their last legs in the NHL?
Fleischmann is only 30 years old. Could rebound under Boudreau.
A little late to the game here, but Fleischmann was a Cap under Boudreau for a while. I remember him having some decent years under him and was actually kind of bummed when he left town. I recall him having a pretty wicked wrist shot, but lacking on defense (like many of Boudreau's choice players during that time).

I think he could be a nice plug with upside.

Tampa Bay acquires Braydon Coburn for a 1st, 3rd and Radko Gudas.

Boston acquires Brett Connolly for two 2nds.
Pretty sure in the past they would have made some stupid trade to try for the 8th seed.maybe hextall isn't terrible
No doubt. But Hextall came in and told Snider his plan to stock pile picks and build through the draft and so far he's holding true. Homer would've given away 6 picks today and handed out 3 terrible extensions just to get smoked in the first round. Hexy is still handcuffed with the ugly contracts he inherited but he's going in the right direction at least. I like it. And that Voynov rumor has been debunked by many. It's not happening.

ETA: More Voynovs agent: There is an interest from other NHL teams, but Slavas future could be discussed only after civil case is closed

Seems as if there have been a ton of draft picks being included in trades this year. It is starting to look like GMs consider draft picks as being limited in usefulness. Anyone have any information on how successful early round draft picks were over the past decade? I'd look for something along the line of a rating scale (star/top six offense or top 2 pairings/third or fourth line/never reached the NHL type of thing).

no, it doesn't look like that at all. it means we have a clear group of buyers and sellers..and the sellers want picks for pending UFAs because that's the best way to get better. buyers are willing to part with them in exchange for players rental players who they think can help make them better for a playoff run. I don't think this is any different than the way things have been for a long time.

I think it's GMs realizing that only about a dozen each draft see the NHL the first year. These 18 year-olds beng drafted in June(for the most part) won't make a difference with the big club until 2017 at least and by then how many GMs will be in their current jobs?

you guys know more than me, so Ill go with being happy

until Duclair is scoring 50 goals a year
Yeah, I was expecting them to make room to bring Duclair up. Surprised they moved him, especially with all the pre-season hype. He looks like a good player but you gotta give up something. Better than Zuuc, imo.

Rude

10:30 a.m. Sportsnet's John Shannon reports the asking price for Sabres forward Chris Stewart is now down to a third-or fourth-round draft pick with the Sabres willing to take on salary as part of the trade.
yeah. already saw that.

I think they should consider re-signing him over taking a return that low.
Rangers were supposedly trying hard to get him last year. I think with the Sheppard acquisition they might be done but it wouldn't surprise me if they checked in.
