would be surprised if he left Minnesota, but he could probably make a lot more if the Sabres come calling. I think finding a goalie is their top priority and he's a better fit for them than a guy like Niemi or Nuevirth.

We are in early stages of talking about a possible summer trip to the hockey hall of fame. For those that have been there, is it a full day, half day or multi day

Half. I was a little disappointed there wasn't more on the individual hall of famers. The great hall is pretty fuuuucking awesome.

I just saw two 2nds reported, not both in this draft which made me think one could be conditional based on Talbot re-signing. Either way, there's no real reason to jump on anything just yet. And even if that was the offer, they aren't really looking to load up prospect depth with the return. The goal is to turn Talbot into a roster forward for this season, either in a direct deal or more of a three way trade.

NHLPA was adamantly opposed to AHL-tested model (4 mins of 4 on 4 and 3 mins of 3 on 3) so NHL choice was no change at all or 3 on 3 for 5.

Sounds like they have a pretty nice bidding war going on, they can probably wait it out and get close to what they want.ETA: I'm seeing Yandle's name pop up here and there, I know he didn't look great but did they sour on him that fast?

I guess they are dealing from position of strength with their D men. No one is going to touch Girardi or Staal. McD not going anywhere. No one in their right mind would touch Boyle so that leaves Klein and Yandle. Klein has a much nicer cap hit.

They have some talent in the minors that they can call up. I guess we see what happens.

The Penguins are planning to sign free-agent forward Sergei Plotnikov, according to a report by TASS, the Russian news agency.

Team officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

Plotnikov, 25, can play both wings and reportedly opted out of his contract with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl in the Kontinental Hockey League so that he could pursue work in the NHL.

He is described as “a hard-working winger with good game vision who plays an impressive physical game,” by the EliteProspects.com website, which also notes that Plotnikov “needs to improve his skating.”

Plotnikov had 15 goals and 21 assists in 56 games with Yaroslavl during the 2014-15 season and has played on Russian national teams in international competitions.

I know this has been discussed here ad nauseum, but Karlsson winning the Norris Trophy as "best defenseman" is pretty absurd.

Can't really argue any of the other winners.

Totally agree with Brasky here.This award is for offensive output with a touch of defense and really has nothing to do with who is the best defenseman.

That's the point ... which we've debated here in the past ... that it doesn't really reward the guys who are great defensemen. I agree, Karlsson is much better than he was when he won it in 2012 and he's a tremendous puck mover and possession guy, which is a form of defense in and of itself. But the "time on ice" stats are pretty telling -- among the top-10 defensemen overall, Karlsson is the overwhelming leader in PP time/G (4:48) but so far behind the others in shorthanded time on ice (0:34 ... Suter is next closest at 2:03) that it's comical.

I know we see the game differently, and that's fine. It just seems the truly great lockdown defensemen always get the shaft, that's all.

Should we have given the Vezina to Damian Rhodes or Mike Smith in the past because they scored a goal?

Would love to see a Rod Langway award given out every year for just that,long overdue IMO.

 
I thought Weber had a real shot at the award this year, but Josi stole his thunder.

Doughty also is deserving but his team missed the playoffs.

No issues with Karlsson winning based on what he did with that team, but I agree that I don't consider him the best overall defenseman. Amazing offensive player though.

I think that would be a really good fit for him.I thought he had a really nice season for the Caps last year even with his diminished role.

Karlsson is one of the most dynamic, game changing D men in the game and is a legitimate top pairing defender that you can match against any top line. And he definitely had a season worthy of it. Plenty of legitimate complaints his first time around, but he's a complete player now.

That analogy is absurd.

considering age, probably Subban, but Doughty, Karlsson, and OEL are all close.

throw Pietrangelo, Hedman, and Carlson just below that. maybe Ekblad too. forgot Hamilton, probably fits in there.

it's such a strong cohort right there.

Subban (born 5/89), McDonagh (born 6/89), Doughty (born 12/89), Pietrangelo (born 1/90), Carlson (born 1/90), Karlsson (born 5/90), and Hedman (born 12/90), Ekman-Larsson (born 7/91)

all those guys born within a couple years of each other.

Watching him in his own end is like taking a chance with a wet fart. Even though it can be exciting, the results usually end up being messy.
