NHL Off-Season thread:Down goes Kane! (1 Viewer)

Hate to see Saad go, I thought he'd be in Chicago for years to come. If it's true he was seeking 6 million+ then he really handcuffed Chicago and wrote his own ticket out of town. This wasn't an issue of keeping Saad vs. any other player on the roster, it's an issue of Saad slotting himself into a pay grade that the cap strapped Hawks can't afford, even if they trade Sharp/Bickell/Versteeg (which is still going to happen). Rather than let Saad get offer sheeted and get picks that wouldn't help for years Bowman chose to trade him and try to get pieces that can be plugged in immediately. Stings, but it's a business.

I know having those Cups make things like this very very tolerable, but I'll be really surprised if Chicago fans aren't #####ing in here about Anisimov very soon. Especially with that money/term locked up.
Bickel is making $4mm/yr. He's first on the ##### list.

they just gave Anisimov a $4.5MM/year deal. wouldn't you rather have Saad at $6MM?

I'll be honest with you I know very little about any player not wearing a Chicago sweater. Given your example in a vacuum, I'm inclined to believe that Saad is worth the 1.5 more per year. Factor in the salary cap though and it becomes harder to evaluate. Is Saad and some AHL defenseman on the 3rd line better than Anisimov and a more dependable FA defenseman?

AA's extension @4.5 doesn't hit the cap until next year. This year, his cap hit is 3something.

Problem is that a more dependable FA defenseman likely costs $4MM for 4.

I know Animisov is getting the focus, and rightly so since he just signed a substantial extension, but I am interested in seeing how Dano turns out too. I think his potential is being a little overlooked and maybe because that's all it may be in the end. Eddie O seems to think he will be a 20 goal scorer.

yes, but Seabrook needs a new deal in 2016.

he's the one guy in this deal that could make it pay off for Chicago imo. Anisimov is pretty average.

I like that deal for Chicago now that they got Anisimov locked up on a nice deal. Very underrated two way center which is a big team need. Dano is a real nice prospect too. Good deal for both teams IMO. Saad is really good but gets overhyped.

That 1.5M could be the difference between keeping Seabrook next year or losing him.

the only way the deal really makes sense to me is the Hawks use it to keep Seabrook.

If they thought Saad was going to cost them $6.5MM/year to get a deal done, then adding a 2nd line center for $4.5MM makes more sense.

Would be awful for them to lose Saad and Oduya this year and then Seabrook next year.

what is going to happen with Hossa though? Is he going to keep playing when his salary drops down to $1MM?

Understood. But to his question, I think it's more likely you get Anisimov and the AHL d-man with the going rate for "solid" defensemen these days.

Next year will be the real test for him. No longer playing with future HOF linemates. I think Saad is great and hate to lose him but not at the expense of Seabrook. Had Saad been willing to sign for the 4.5 AA did then he's likely still a Hawk.

My point is you get Saad at 6M and lose Seabrook or you get Anisimov and get to keep Seabrook. It's a no brainer choice all day everyday.

I hope someone starts pulling a Ruins today because other than Arizona there really isn't a bad team in the West. Pretty much everyone getting better to this point or has a lot of youth improving.

One year at a time. Who knows what happens in the next year capwise. Expansion teams, stronger $C etc.

almost everything Doug MacLean says makes me cringe. Feel like I disagree with him on just about everything so far. How are he and Damien Cox on the top studio team for Sports Net?

The guy sitting two to the left of the lady in red was caught in the headlights when they asked him about Kessel's bonus.

Beauchemin to Avs.

Granlund signed his 2-yr bridge deal, money not announced yet
$3 mil per. Nice deal, thought closer to $4
like that signing. could make himself a lot more money on his next deal, but at least Minnesota will have a better idea of what they are getting by then.
concussion history is the big concern or they would have tried to go longer. Granlund camp wanted the bridge deal anyway with the expectation that the next deal will be big.
