I think Daley is better than you're giving him credit for. Guy had 16 goals last year and played 23 minutes/game that included top-pairing minutes on the PP and the PK. He should do fine as a 2nd pairing guy in Chicago.Well that's really what has happened according to rumors. I just don't understand why Bowman would want anything other than cap space for Sharp.Pretty lame if Oduya plays the loyal soldier, patiently waiting for Chicago and then they turn around and bring in Daley as his replacement.
How much cheaper of a deal would Oduya be willing to take in Chicago? If he turned down $5MM/year for 3 years already, would he stick in Chicago for $4MM? Tough to say if the Hawks could have fit him in or not.
EDIT: I realize he wasn't very good last year, but still not sure he's washed up as this article implies: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/what-trevor-daley-can-teach-us-about-defensemen-in-decline--trending-topics-180540176.html

He's running a pro team like some people run their fantasy teams.
nhlnumbers shows Chicago with 1.3 mill in cap space after the Sharp trade. They gave up Sharp's salary, but added Daley's and Garbutt's.
