NHL Season Thread: TB wins and Kucherov loves beer (2 Viewers)

look, most of knew TDA was an issue, but the rangers must’ve thought they could work through the crazy.  that said, maybe he popped georgiev good enough so that quinn is forced to use his best goaler.  georgiev was beyond awful saturday night.  so, from a sal cap standpoint, this removes his contract without a hit?  i can’t find anything to the contrary.

if nobody claims him, they could send him to minors/ taxi squad and be responsible for a greatly reduced number. if they release him, he counts full freight.

Unfortunately, according to Brooks, a trip to the AHL only saves the Rangers 1 million. That could be enough to have Hajek come in though. I think he has been held out bc his bonus money would put them over.

@charlieo_conn: Just can't see anyone claiming DeAngelo. Not due to some collective moral statement, to be clear. But we're talking about a guy who apparently has burned his bridges in one locker room, has a big cap hit in a stagnant cap world, & would spark backlash in sections of your fanbase.
Sounds like a perfect fit for the Wild.

However, based on information Blueshirt Banter has gathered on background for multiple years now, the two were apparently never on the best of terms as far back as the 2017-18 season when the two were teammates in Hartford, the AHL affiliate.

Furthermore, three separate sources independently confirmed to Blueshirt Banter that there was concern at various levels of the organization regarding DeAngelo’s treatment of rookie defenseman K’Andre Miller. Sources did not wish to go on the record with specific examples but indicated that it was an issue that caught the attention and ire of multiple players in the organization.

i had mentioned that miller seemingly avoided tda during opening night intros and this sounds like miller knew what he was doing.

On a sidenote, that McDonagh+Miller trade really didn't work out well. Howden has looked meh. Hajek can't crack the lineup. Namestnikov is gone. The pick turned out to be Lundkvist (and the 2nd rounder was Henriksson). So the jury is still out on the picks.

Miller was a 59% faceoff guy last year. We'll see if that continues or was a blip, but the Rangers are atrocious at draws.

Really wish the Rangers were able to get Cirelli in that one instead of Howden. But here we are. Hopefully the picks work out.

JT was never going to be the player he is now while with the rangers.  needed to be humbled and grow up.   which he has.

I can buy that. Coaching probably played a role as well as chemistry. I always liked his skillset. Still pains me that in his 56 point year in 2016-2017, he was 7th among forwards on the team in PP ice time. Behind Brandon Pirri and Vesey. Makes me wonder if there was more there that year.

Halfway thru 2nd and Tim Peel crew has called a combined 9 minors tonight (none coincidental). They've mostly been of the ticky tack variety. Maddening

@charlieo_conn: It's so incredibly Philadelphia Flyers to finally have a good start to a season in terms of wins and losses and still find a way to have most people mad at how they've played.

It was #####ed about here plenty at the time and well after. The front office was taking the approach of quantity over quality in some of those earlier moves in the rebuild, since so much was dealt away prior. Terrible strategy if your scouting isn't on point and it showed quickly that it wasn't with that deal.

Thankfully lottery luck saved us there.

quinn announced he will not use a goaltender this evening and is having jack johnson dress, but not come to the arena.  also, quinn going 5 d on PP1 unit.  likes brett howden’s game enough to give him 20 mins a night though he doesn’t score or win face offs and seemingly does nothing well.

Kucherov’s rehab is progressing along normally, according to Coach Cooper. He’d like to get back ASAP, but it’s more important that he get back healthy whenever that is.

Been thinking about that move when thinking about Gorton as a GM.

Yikes. It’s not that serious, even though my office walls are running out of room to put stuff.

that first comment too :lmao:
this comment made me chuckle

Malkin is absolutely brutal to watch anymore.  It's mystifying he is always on the the top PP unit on top of it. He has nothing left and is a give away machine. I hope he retires after this year so he doesn't tarnish his legacy. He looks like a 60 year old man on the ice.

The last three Capitals games have featured blown 3-0 leads.

In a span of five days ...

Erase 3-0 deficit vs, Trotz/Isles, win 6-3.

Blow 3-0 lead to Bruins, win on Ovie's goal in OT.

Blow another 3-0 lead to Bruins, lose 5-3.

They may not be stacking up the wins but the Rangers are really moving the puck well. More than I've seen in quite some time.

Kakko added to Covid list
Why was he partying with the Devils though?  (hope it isn't serious though :( )

Oy and now the Sabres game vs the Islanders scheduled for the day has been postponed for the COVID protocol.  They just played the Devils.  Hopefully no positives and just over precaution.  I know the possibility of in-game transmition of thoroughly discussed with @Joe Bryant in the football thread - wonder if that may have happened here in an NHL game.

Though reading the press release I see that the Buffalo postponement is actually travel related, strictly speaking - since they apparently could not get appropriate testing done on time.  So this is more precaution than anythint concrete.  A lot of eyes on Buffalo since 1 Devils COVID player played i  the 1st game of the 2 game set (before hitting the list) and then 3 or 4 more played the 2nd game.

I will note that Vegas situation last week was somewhat similar but apparently nothing transpired with their opponent in that back-to-back.

Vegas didn’t play a back to back fwiw 🙂

but didn't they a game without the entire coaching staff and the GM behind the bench.  Then AFTER that game they went into lockdown?  Feels like NHL is big time trying to get games in with sketchy situations.

Ugh Bratt Hughes Smith Severson and Tennyson added to COVID list - Blackwood comes off.

Oh and now the Sabres postponements are COVID related.  Hall and Ristolainen into the protocol.  Things going downhill fast :(

That’s correct lol. Brought the ahl staff that was getting ready for their exhibition game up to coach and then the ahl staff for the exhibition games was a mash unit of different kind of coaches hahaha.

Vegas has had four straight days of negative test so they should be practicing tomorrow.

Devils current lines.

This is suboptimal...

@BuffaloVogl: The Sabres have been shut down through Monday because two players have entered the COVID-19 protocols. The team’s training facilities have been closed until further notice. The NHL is reviewing and revising the Sabres’ regular season schedule.

reminds me of one of my best on-ice chirps. We were playing a team and beating them pretty bad. Things were getting chippy and the other goalie was starting to take whacks at my guys. I was jawing at him from my crease to "cut the Sh-t and bring that down here." Game is almost over and a fight breaks out in my corner, I look down ice and he starts heading down to me. We meet up, skate in a few circles ready to throw. Naturally everyone turns to watch 2 goalies fight. I keep asking him "You want me to hit you?!?!...Want me to hit you???!" He goes "yea, take your best shot!" only from me to reply "Why nothing else has tonight" and I turn and skate away. Even his own team was laughing and banging their sticks.
