NHL Season Thread: TB wins and Kucherov loves beer (2 Viewers)

I believe Wisky is the first college hockey team ever to go from worst to first in back-to-back seasons. But that just underscores what a massive underachiever Bucky was last season.
Add to the fact that they had Turcotte and K'Andre Miller last year.  With that much talent around they had no business being in the basement.  I think it shows the importance of strong defensive net presence their stats year over year shot percentage dropped.

I work long hours this time of year, usually leave work during the middle of the Sabres game, usually during the 2nd or 3rd period.  I'll always have the game on the radio for the drive home.  Approx 20 minute commute, so we'll say maybe 8-10 minutes of actual game action while I'm driving home.  Given how they've packed the games in the schedule this year, easily 2-3 games a week.

As I listened to Rick Jeanneret's solemn call of Ovechkin's 717th career goal last night, to make it 6-0 as I drove home, it dawned on me.  I don't think I've heard a single Sabres goal this entire season.

What an intro :lmao:

Punch Imlach, the Sabres’ first coach, died in 1987.

He still might get more out of this team than Ralph Krueger.

The Sabres can’t score, defend, hit, compete, stop pucks or win. And, after hearing about their lack of confidence from Krueger every day for a month, they know they can’t do those things.

At some point, general manager Kevyn Adams will end the misery. He’ll send Krueger and the coaching staff packing, ending one of the most disappointing tenures in the Sabres’ five decades.

Imlach is obviously out as Krueger’s replacement, but there’s a long and intriguing list of candidates.

It's hard to imagine a team worse than the Ducks right now.  I guess Gibson winning three games 1 to 0, is the difference.

Troy Terry shows a glimpse of real promise every five games for one shift.  And then vanishes until they make him a healthy scratch,  again.

Reverse retro night seems like a good night to put Zegras back in the lineup and have Drysdale make his debut (Eric Stephens seems to think there's a chance this happens tonight)...

Not hockey related but every time I see the title of this thread it takes me back to seeing Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, and Joni Mitchell on tour together at both arenas in May '98. Phenomenal shows.

Just happened to turn on the pens bruins game and witnessed one of the worst major penalty calls I've ever seen.

Wasn't even a penalty.

Hanging out in the parking lot at a Joni Mitchell show must be bittersweet.

Fire Ralph Krueger into the sun imo. Team needs another Covid outbreak so they can maybe opt out of the rest of the season.

I would tend to agree, clean hit with bad result, though I guess by the letter of the rule it could be called that way.

Between periods Billy Jaffe said he texted several NHL people, including officials — and there was no consensus between major or penalty at all.

Colorado came back in force.  Avalanche need to get a backup goaltender.

Should be an exciting back to back against wild.
Anton Forsberg was put on waivers yesterday, I'll be pretty surprised if Colorado doesn't claim him (though they'll be low in the pecking order).

How many coaches are the Sabres currently  paying to not coach their team anymore?
Lance Lysowski @LLysowski

Since the sale to Terry Pegula was final on Feb. 18, 2011, the Sabres have the fewest points in the NHL. They have hired and fired five coaches. Krueger, Botterill, Sexton and Greeley were all under contract through the 2021-22 season.

Leafs lines today... Galchenyuk being put in a position to succeed (or a placeholder for whoever they trade for).

Thrornton-Matthews-Marner
Galchenyuk-Tavares-Nylander
Mikheyev-Kerfoot-Hyman
Engvall-Spezza-Simmonds

The last few games I've watched Hyman has been a beast. I'd have him in place of Jumbo but maybe Hyman isn't needed on that line as much as he is needed on the 3rd line.

I'll be interested to see how Galchenyuk does.  I havent really watched him much since his Hab days. He can't be up to much

Rangers entire coaching staff under protocol.

Chuck, i mean Chris, Knoblaugh  (Hartford) will be coaching the team tonight.

edit: fox and buchnevich appear to be back in.

maybe Hartford should be at the wheel because they're cruising.

9-0, Mika with a natural hat trick before Chytil finishes it in the 2nd.        This looks like the Devils when Gretz called them a Mickey Mouse franchise.

edit: Mika with 6 points in the 2nd.  ties Bryan Trottier for the record.

mika has been invisible since quinn failed to name him C.  team has been wildly inconsistent.  entire coaching staff out due to covid and we get 9-0, with mika being 3-3=6 so far.  hmmmmm
Love love love love love

I don't know exactly what it tells you but it tells you...something.

Btw poor ####### Carter Hart tonight. Gets sent in for relief and the first shot he faces is a 2 on 0 shorthanded breakaway.

Jesse Puljujarvi is one of the most likeable players in the league. His facial expressions/big goofy grin just kill me. And after almost being exiled to the KHL, he's come back and all he does is go the corners, the front of the net, the dirty areas, and makes #### happen. I love his game. Maybe it's just me.

Makar and Byram back in the lineup for Colorado.  Should be fun against the wild.  Full lineup:

Landeskog-MacKinnon-Rantanen

Saad-Kadri-Burakovsky

Nichushkin-Jost-Donskoi

Calvert-Bellemare-O'Connor

Defense: Makar, Girard, Toews, MacDonald, Byram, Graves

Grubauer

Jamie Drysdale debut tonight. I'm irrationally excited to see how he does in the NHL. He was so fun to watch in junior, I hope he steps in and takes right over. Also I realize he's 18 and tiny and should probably still be in the OHL.
