NHL Season Thread: TB wins and Kucherov loves beer (2 Viewers)

I am well aware of the last time a Canadian based team won the cup.  As a country, we'd love to have the trophy come home but that's not the same as "How is Canada so bad at something they invented?" A cup win is a team win for the players (and staff) of that team. It's not a country win.  Olympics, World Juniors, World Championships are for the country.

Yes, no doubt the Stanley Cup is the holy grail of hockey championships but a country doesn't win the cup. When Tampa won last year did you chant U-S-A! U-S-A! ?
No, because I am a fan of the Lightning, when it comes to the NHL.

I will say, during this conversation, I realized we might be speaking past each other, and I’d like to amend my original statement, if I may: “How are Canadian NHL teams so bad at the sport their country invented?” Mostly I was just trying to chirp a bit, for bleeps and/or giggles.

This Bruins series is far from over - totally expect them to come out with their hair on fire Wednesday night like they did last game.

Still stunned the Isles got out of that 1st period tied 1-1. It should have been 3-1 or 4-1 Bruins.

Re: TB - In OT of Game 6 last year - on a breakaway Brock Nelson had the game on his stick which could have forced a Game 7.
He could have done so, but the key part is that he didn’t, the Bolts finished the series and went on to hoist the Cup.

Thank the Almighty for that. I had to look it up, and Montreal would have missed the playoffs in any other division. Now they’re the North champs. How is Canada so bad at something they invented?
If you read Twitter it's because of the salary cap and low/no tax states in the US

It's all good. It is hard to understand why one team based in Canada hasn't been able to succeed for so long and sadly I don't expect that to change anytime soon. Certainly not this year.  I do think Montreal may surprise a few people in that i think they will keep the games closer than most expect and I think they will win at least 1.

most of those teams seem to melt under the pressure. see Toronto and Couver for clear examples.

I’ve been trying to watch the mechanics of goalies a bit closer of late, and talking to some goalie friends, because it sure seems like the top corners have become a real hole for some of these guys — particularly on the glove side.

That said, I have no idea what Fleury was doing there. If he just stands up it hits him in the shoulder.

for starters, don’t turn your blocker side into your glove side

Vegas just doesn't give up. Rough ending to period 1 with the Saad goal. Down 2-0 heading into the 3rd. They battle back to tie it and win it in OT.

Contrast that with Colorado: To me, they're up 1-0 the other night. They give up that bad goal off the turnover by Nemeth. And they just seemed to let that affect them. I could be wrong, but that's what I'm seeing.

Vegas got thrashed in Game 1. Confidence wasn't shot. Lost Game 2. Confidence still wasn't shot. Faced essentially two must win games in Games 3 and 4. Won both. Then goes into Colorado, down 2-0 in the 3rd, ties it up, and wins it in OT. Talk about not giving up.

Now COL has to go back to that loud stadium in Vegas in a must win Game 6. Not going to be easy. Test of Colorado's character. They need to do what Vegas has been able to do: short memory and just focus on going into Vegas and playing their game. I thought they played better tonight. The top line had more life. Forecheck was better. They just couldn't seal the deal.

All goalies have those same holes. They’re just really difficult to hit consistently.

Goalies are a strange breed, besides. One day they’ll make Dominik Hasek look like a caveman, the next they might not stop a fat man running uphill.

Although, I have to admit, it seems to work.  The subsequent power play almost always seems to be called in favor of the home team.
Honestly, I’d rather they just be consistent with how they call something. If it’s a penalty, it’s always a penalty. Just pick a thing and stick with it.

Islanders playing their best game yet I think.

Bs better wake up. Haven’t had much dangerous chances 5v5
