NHL Season Thread: TB wins and Kucherov loves beer (1 Viewer)

Well if we’ve learned anything from the past it’s that game ones don’t define a series but I’m feeling pretty good about the Bolts here.

@emilymkaplan: Only three players in NHL history have scored 30+ points in consecutive postseasons.

Wayne Gretzky
Mario Lemieux
Nikita Kucherov

Didn't see a lot from Montreal except when their goalie kept them in it during the 2nd period.

Tampa Bay could win this in 5 possibly, another strong hold at home, split up in Montreal and have a chance to close at home. Would like to see them win one of these at home in front of their fan base who IMHO is one of the best in the NHL.

This is an opportunity to be the first major franchise in Tampa Bay to win B2B Titles. And it's possible they wouldn't be the only Tampa team to achieve that this year depending on your feelings about the Bucs-22 in '22/Hollywood, CA.

The speed difference was evident.  If the referees continue to swallow the whistle though Montreal could try to up the physical play another notch to negate that advantage.
Early on in the game #11 for Montreal tried to shove Hedman who barely moved an inch and then the Canadien ended up down on the ice inside the goal and was in no hurry to stand up and even laughed as there was nothing he could do and he looked like a kid compared to the two Lightning players standing over him. Same guy got a real nice bloody face towards the end fo the game which summed it up pretty well. I don't think Montreal can bully Tampa Bay, they could try cheap shots but that only makes them look worse.

I think that Montreal coaches have to do a better job at getting better matchups.  It is tough on the road - especially when you're chasing the puck but they have to get Suzuki's line away from Point more often - and get Danault out there against him.

I think judging a team based on one game is not a good idea.  Montreal is better than they showed.  I mean it's not as if Vegas is no good, and Montreal was able to get past them.

I think Kucherov is a great player

I also think he's one of the biggest embellishers I've ever seen.

I think Montreal could really use a D-man like Sergachev.  Too bad they never seem to draft that type of player.  Oh, wait...

I think it could be a short series, or Montreal makes adjustments and finds a way.

I think one of the big things for the Bolts is they’ve had a lot of success against Price. I read his worst career numbers are against them. Seems less likely he will get into their head and dictate their offensive plan like he seemed to do against other teams.

No matter what this thing has to go 5 at least (I’m sure it will) because I have amazing seats right behind where the cup comes out for game 5. Fingers crossed.

He was definitely in the heads of the Vegas scorers. The number of times Marchessault shot wide was astounding.

@FriedgeHNIC: There are rumblings Chicago is working on a potential Duncan Keith trade to either the Pacific Northwest or Western Canada. Word is Keith and team are working together to get him to a place he wants to go. We will see where this goes.

My wife has already been in the Jumbotron so I feel like that’s a good omen for tonight.

Wonder if they try to make space to trade Dach in an Eichel deal.

Can’t win with Price

when SOG are 39 to 21and you are down 2, might be time to pack it up. TB is dynasty. Let’s bring on expansion and entry drafts and then free agency IMO

In fairness, the Lightning are going to make any goalie, even Playoff Carey Price, appear mortal. Having Vasilevskiy playing like this isn’t going to help Montreal, either.

Must be infuriating for Montreal’s fans to see the madhouse inside and out of Amalie arena and only be allowed to have ~3,500 fans in their building.

Anti-climatic finals for sure.  Montreal has obviously overachieved in getting this far and are no match for the Lightning who were loaded anyway before their salary cap fun which appears to have made another Cup win a foregone conclusion.
