Nick Barnett future (1 Viewer)

Is he done in GB. The Bishop kid looks too good to go back to the bench. So Hawk or Barnett are likely gone, and with Barnett coming off a major injury is he through in GB.

They do seem to have some sick depth at the LB corps. Hawk, Barnett, Bishop, Matthews, Jones, and now this Walden guy. Nice situation to be in for GB.

Right now this question is impossible to answer, as a packer homer, I know that after Barrett was put on IR, I cannot remember one time that I heard anyone (including all of the local media) speaking of Nick Barrett. I am not sure if he is forgotten about or if all the packer fans are focusing on the current playoff situation. Before this season started, Hawk was being seen as a draft bust and Barnett as a good cover MLB, but this year Hawk has played much harder than prior years, so I not sure how Barrett is now perceived.I know many internet mock drafts are speculating if Green Bay first pick in 2011 is a pass rushing OLB to play opposite of Clay Matthews. I know that Draft Countdown speculates that Green Bay taking a pass rushing OLB with their first pick.

Isnt' Hawk a free agent? Also, I think Barnett is still signed for next year. Wouldn't that make Barnett a 3 down player at WILB and Bishop in base packages at SILB?

guy forgotten who can impact the ILB as much as anyone is Brandon Chillar. when healthy he is simply the best cover LB'er whose pretty versatile and not bad on early downs. Chillar likely won't start but he eats up alot of snaps

Yep. I forgot about Chillar. Wasn't there one other white guy that played LB that got IR'd as well? Either way they still have great depth. Not sure they would go LB in the first round because of that.

Bishop deserves the extension for how he has played this season. I'm a Barnett owner and I'll hang on to him in case things change or he moves to another team, but right now I'm not optimistic about his future prospects in Cheesehead land.

Per rotoworld:

"Packers signed ILB Desmond Bishop to a four-year, $19 million extension through 2014.

Premier NFL inside 'backers typically get $6 million-a-year contracts, so this looks like absolute robbery for GM Ted Thompson. Bishop, 26 and previously slated for 2011 free agency, has been a wrecking machine and averaged nearly nine tackles per game since replacing Nick Barnett in Week 5. Bishop has also racked up three sacks, a 32-yard pick six, and two forced fumbles. The extension likely means that AJ Hawk won't be back next season. Jan. 4 - 11:56 am et"

I still think Barnett sticks at WILB as the better coverage LB, and Bishop on base downs with Chillar taking Bishop's nickel snaps.

Is there any chance that Hawk or Barnett could move outside opposite Matthews if the Packers don't upgrade that position in the draft? Just curious if there is a way to get all 4 of Matthews/Bishop/Hawk/Barnett on the field together. Jones & Zombo are nothing special and while Walden looked great against the Bears, he will need to do that more than once to prove he is worthy of keeping the job (this week at Philly would be nice).

Bishop isn't bad in pass coverage or as a rusher either. I think/hope he can be a 3 down LB next year, and he did better this year than I've seen from Barnett in 3-4 years. And better than anything AJ Hawk has ever done.

Sure but they tried Chillar there in the PS and then abandoned it. My guess is they'll try and draft someone and let Barnett or Hawk go. For 2 years the talk was it would be Hawk but now Barnett is projected more.Maybe Walden outside as a pass rusher and other people on 1st and 2nd down. If Capers stays the added versatility would be nice.
