Nicks out a few weeks (1 Viewer)

I have a bye in 2 leagues with nicks in week 14 and really hope he sits out until week 15 when he will be in better shape and less likely to hurt himself.

why do people keep saying this? there is no further reinjury risk. they caught the problem.

If the Giants start him wk 14 he will be in my lineup. Don't think the Giants would start him unless they are comfortable with his health and ability to produce and I'm sure the Giants need these wins coming up.

I too don't have to worry about playing him until Week 15, but if I needed a win this week and he's playin', I'm seriously thinking about playing him. Last time he was in question (earlier in the year), he didn't have great yardage, but still scored a TD. Turned into a pretty nice play.

Plus, the Giants need every hand on deck if they are to win this division.

Then how come he didn't just play in the next game then? Reinjury may be the wrong word but what he means is basically closer to 100 percent and shake off any rust that may have settled in the time off.

Yes, more time off will help him shake off the rust.

close toss up between him and T.O. for my wr 3 spot this weekend if he plays. If not for the uncertainty he would easily make my lineup.

He hasn't been practicing while he's been out unlike someone like Vincent Jackson who was out due to suspension. I'm sure most people besides Alan Iverson can use practice for game time.

Why take the risk? If you're that loaded to have TO has your WR3, why take the risk of someone possibly walking out there and finding out he can't go and you're up a creek.I seriously doubt there's any news I can hear from Hakeem Nicks that would make me feel confident enough to bench TO for him.If I bench a guy, it's guys like Hines Ward or a plethera of guys like that who are only so productive anyway.

yeah, what's the big deal? it's not like he severly injured himself and then the Compartment Syndrome set in - sounds like he got hit, they diagnosed the syndrome early and now he's basically got stitches. As long as he can run, get hit, etc... without any danger of of the wound opening again and getting infected, he'll be out there - a little tape does wonders. I would not be surprised at all to see him on the field and performing at a high level in week 14 - it sounds like he'll push the team to let him play.

For the life of me I cannot figure out why some people dropped Nicks. He's a top 5 WR in any format and there was never a worse prognosis than 3-4 weeks. Just in time for the playoffs.

Remember earlier in the year when he had ankle issues, in the game against the Colts I believe (when Eli got throttled) he was only used sparingly...basically in 3 WR sets. I remember being really angry that I started him because he was barely in for most of the game. Of course, he did score a last minute garbage TD but he only had 1 reception up to that point. I'm worried that he'll be used the same way in this first game back. It's going to be a GTD for me (if he plays at all, obviously).

cause people esp on these forums googled compartment leg syndrome saw the disgusting pictures.....and read all those personal accounts of people who said they had it too and there was no way he'd be back

Fair point, but remember that was with a healthy Steve Smith. Smith is going to be limited too, if he plays at all. Also, I read on rotoworld today that Eli was "frustrated" with the way Manningham has been playing, so if Nicks is healthy enough to play he should have the opportunity to produce.

As per rotoworld:

Hakeem Nicks (leg) will do individual drills at practice Wednesday and could get a few snaps in the team portion of practice if all goes well.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

Really hoping that they only dress him if he's at full speed. If he's active I think I'll have a hard time sitting him. But my fear is that they bring him back a week too early and he's ineffective or ends up sitting later in the game.

1. I think the fact that he is out there running around today at practice is a good indication that he will play this weekend. Its not like an ankle or a groin or something where he has to test it for pain tolerance. From what was described about this injury, i dont think it will be like well I feel 80% back..its more of an all or nothing scenario. Ie for Sunday i dont see how there is any concern for re-injury or being limited by the injury. I would think that the only concern would be if he feels rusty at all or is not quite in game shape after sitting a few weeks. Which brings me to my second point.

2. If he plays, I cant see possibly not starting him. The NYG are in a dogfight for the division. They get to play indoors so weather is not a factor. The Vikings are still fairly tough to run on so they will have to throw the ball (unlike against Wash last week). And there are a lack of other quality options in the passing game right now.. with Steve Smith not at full health, and Manningham proving to be an inadequate fill-in.

Theres some risk, but there are also positive factors that point to the possibility of a huge first week back. You just know Manning desparately wants this target back out there in a game where they will need to throw, in a game they need to win.

Hakeem Nicks (leg) returned to a limited practice Wednesday, and said afterwards that he did "60 percent" of team drills."If I'm practicing, I'm playing," Nicks told reporters. We like the confidence, but the determination will likely be made by the Giants' medical staff, not Nicks himself. Assuming Nicks does play against Minnesota, he'd only be a WR3 and a high-risk one at that. Check back Thursday for another update.
:goodposting: Theres another Roto note saying Steve Smith is likely to play.

Encouraging news so far. Let's hope it keeps coming. Nicks back healthy this week would be an unexpected bonus for round 1 of the playoffs.

one more report

Hakeem Nicks said he participated in more than half of practice, feels great and expects to play Sunday. #nyg Paul Schwartz twitter

I want Nicks back, but I don't want him back.

Nicks being out would make my lineup decisions easy for RD1 of playoffs,

If he's active, I basically have to decide who to bench of these three:

H. Nicks

A. Bradshaw

L. Blount

If there are rumors that Nicks isn't going to play a full compliment of snaps it will be tough to bench the other two.

Something tells me a lot of people may have this dilemma this weekend.

No dilemma for me, if Nicks plays then he's in my line-up. Maybe some teams have better options but he's been a stud all year and now that it's win or go home time I'm rolling him out there!

If he plays, I will definately be watching him run his routes this weekend, how he walks back to the huddle, the little things. It's hard to believe he'll be 100 percent after 2 weeks when the news was released you had people on here saying they were going to drop him, crazy.

From Yahoo/Rotowire:

Nicks (leg) indicated that he did about 60 percent of the Giants' team drills at practice Wednesday and felt no pain, Ralph Vacchiano of the Daily News reports.

Recommendation: "I did more than I expected, more than we all expected. It felt good," Nicks said Wednesday. "I see the doctor today, tell him how I responded, see how I feel tomorrow." At this point, Nicks has a solid chance to play Sunday against the Vikings, but for that to remains the case he'll need to get through the rest of the week without reopening the wound on his leg.

(Rotowire.com)

I admit it. I was one of the idiots that dropped him when he went down. Now I will be going up against him next week.

Per rotoworld:

Answering questions in an online chat Wednesday, FOX Sports' Adam Caplan said with confidence that Hakeem Nicks (leg) will not play in Week 14 against the Vikings."I can tell you that Nicks won't play this week," wrote Caplan in response to a fantasy-related question. Caplan is typically very reliable on matters such as this, and all along Nicks has seemed more likely to play in Week 15 than 14. Giants coach Tom Coughlin will address the media again on Thursday.

Per Nicks (via New York Post):Smith, Nicks, Diehl plan to play for Giants on Sunday

Nicks said he starting running gassers Monday, did about 20 minutes on the treadmill Tuesday, and participated in more than half of Wednesday’s practice.

“Actually I did more than I expected, more than we all expected,’’ Nicks said. “It felt good. “My mentality is if I’m practicing, I’m playing. Go hard out there in practice, hopefully they’ll let me play. I’m pretty sure they will.’’

If necessary, Nicks said he will play even if his stitches haven’t been removed.

“I just wrap it up,’’ Nicks said. “I don’t feel it at all, don’t even notice it at all.’’

I like yours better than mine.

I know I'm biased because I hope to start Nicks but doesn't it seem like Rotoworld has gone out of it's way to say Nicks isn't playing until week 15?

who cares. He is practicing and based on past simialr injuries to Nfl players (urlacher & Jason Taylor) 2 games missed seems to be the norm

I'm going to guess he plays this week and has a very productive week. Nobody wants him to play and play well more than Hakeem Nicks himself.

I sure hope that's the case. Like most in this thread, I could certainly use him come week 15 and I'd like to see how he looks for a week prior to having to "plug-n-play" him for the postseason. That said, even if he doesn't play week 14, if he's out there come week 15 he's in my lineup.

If you have all 3, Nicks, Manningham and Smith, who do you start this week? I'm scared to plug in Nicks or Smith, so thinking it might be Manningham who benefits with increased attention to the other 2.

Some of us need a win in week 14 to make it to week 15.

:goodposting: If I were in it, sure I would want him to rest, but he is such a difference maker this year, then even at 75%, he is better than most other options if you have to make it this year.

Lets do this Hakeem.

Hakeem Nicks (leg) practiced again Thursday and Newsday's Tom Rock says the receiver is "looking good" for Sunday.Nicks told reporters Wednesday, "If I'm practicing, I'm playing." We wouldn't write it in stone just yet, but it's looking more and more likely. FOX Sports' Adam Caplan, for what it's worth, thinks Nicks will not play this weekend. It's possible it could come down to a game-time decision.

This is enough for me to put him in my lineup! As has already been said, they need this game!

Just to keep the situation nice and murky, this was posted on Fanball earlier today:

THE NEWS

Adam Kaplan of FOX Sports ruled Hakeem Nicks (leg) out for Week 14.

OUR VIEW

We will wait for an official ruling from the Giants, but all signs point to Nicks needing one more week to recover. Fantasy owners who were hoping to have the the stud wideout in a crucial Week 14 will be forced to go with another option.

why is kaplan doing this? His thoughts aren't in line with anything that is happening on the practice field. Strange, I didn't know some random fox reporter could declare a player Out.

Pretty clear that Kaplan is playing the Nicks owner in his league this week.
