No thread about Kanye West ruining Taylor Swift's moment (1 Viewer)

Now we are including reading music as a requisite?
I would seem to think it would be a requirement to being a musician. :X
not necessarily-- music THEORY maybe (keys, chord progressions etc) but not necessarily reading sheet music.. BBs example was an opera singer, who has to be able to read music at a high level.. I know many very good guitarists who cannot read sheet music, but understand music theory, and can transpose keys on the fly..

good for them.. they play instruments, West does not (my original point)
It may have been your original point, but it quickly grew to "hip hop is not music."
yeah.. that part was just an opinion.. :X I stand by my point on West though..
Is it your belief that classically trained opera singers aren't musicians (since I see that you're a fan of classical music)?
you think Kayne can read that level of music?
How is that relevant to your point that you aren't a muscian unless you play an instrument?

How does Swift NOT ask Kayne is he likes fish sticks?
What is the story behind the fish stick remark?FWIW, I have Taylor and West on my play list and think they are both talented (enough). Although, I do think Kayne's remarks were inappropriate and his apology was less than sincere.

I too have never heard of Taylor Swift. :goodposting:
Swift is bigger than Kanye.According to Nielsen SoundScan, Swift was the biggest selling artist of 2008 in America with combined sales of more than four million albums. Swift's Fearless and her self-titled album finished 2008 at number three and number six respectively, with sales of 2.1 and 1.5 million.[4] Swift was the first artist in the history of Nielsen SoundScan to have two different albums in the Top 10 on the year end album chart.[4] Fearless has topped the Billboard 200 in 11 non-consecutive weeks.[5] No album has spent more time at number one since 1999-2000. It also was the first album by a female artist in country music history to log eight weeks at #1 on The Billboard 200. In mid-January 2009, Swift became the first country artist to top the 2 million mark in paid downloads with three different songs.[6] As of the week ending February 8, 2009, Swift's single "Love Story" became the country song with most paid downloads in history and the first country song to top the Mainstream Top 40 chart.[7][8] According to the 2009 issue of Forbes, Taylor Swift is ranked as the 69th most powerful celebrity with over $18 million in earnings in 2008.[9]

why is this thread still going? Parrothead is obviously out of touch with the world. Leave him and his lawn alone.

Facts: Kayne is a doosh but has a point to a certain extent, VMAs are useless, Taylor Swift makes songs for little girls

Swift is bigger than Kanye.
Since 2008? Yes.Overall? Not even close.
Swift is only 19...Music is like sports.."what have you done for me lately"?
:unsure:I would take a bet, with some bad odds even, that West will produce or record higher selling stuff over the next 10 years than Swift.
Well, that's not a particularly fair comparison.
Produce, maybe. Record...I doubt it.

Her bassist's wife is one of my wife's friends, and they say how nice of a girl she is too. Someone needs to dig a hole and put Kanye in it and then fill it up with cement

A little harsh, don't you think?Yea, the guy is apparently a big doosh. But you propose burying him alive in a hole full of cement?Don't you have better things to worry about than Kanye West's death?

chillKayne isn't a murderer, he stated an opinion. He didn't say Taylor Swift sucks. He just thought Beyonce's video was better.

So let's be generous and say that Swift has 5 platinum albums over the next 10 years. Let's also say that Kanye has only two more platinum albums in him. But he also has producing credits for a bunch of singles/albums by Jay-Z, Alicia Keyes, John Legend, Li'l Wayne, Common, the Game, DMX, etc. If Moops gets to aggregate all the sales from Kanye's producing credits, that's an unfair bet.

More importantly, who's gonna hold the stakes for 10 years?

:shrug:The comment I was referring to was the whole Swift is bigger than Kanye thing.Surem she may (probably) sell more records over the next few years. Doesnt mean she is "bigger".

Perhaps you should give specific criteria.

Perhaps you should give specific criteria.
OK.I'll try harder.
:shrug:I was just responding to your sales/production comment. What do you mean by "bigger?"
I think Kanye West is, and will be in the near future, a bigger music persona than Taylor Swift. That includes everything that he does (write, produce, perform, etc).Do you disagree? It's fine if you do. I'm not trying to start a e-fight here. Seriously.

i disagree, but that just may be because i have an 11yo daughter. Swift is about all the music i hear in the house.

Over the next ten years? I think Swift will be "bigger". She's tremendously marketable, talented, attractive, and young. She's in a completely DIFFERENT market than West, but that market is huge. While there's no doubt West is talented, I think we've seen the best of him as a performer; his future is in production - where he can get away with being a complete tool all the time.I guess this is a better parallel, and will illustrate where I'm coming from: Who's more recognizable in the music industry, Kelly Clarkson or Jay-Z? Ask 100 random people who each is, and I'd bet my bottom dollar more people know who Kelly Clarkson is. Jay-Z is undoubtedly FAR more influential in the music industry. Which is "bigger" in your opinion, more famous and marketable, or more influential?

Without Jay-Z most of this stuff wouldn't even be going on, bro. Guy is so far above everyone else. He has it on lockdown

It was a recent episode of South Park, basically an entire episode dedicated to making fun of Kayne West. Not South Park's finest half-hour, but I got a few chuckles out of it. You will have to check it out, as I don't want to kill any possible humor by trying to explain it.

Does West even play an instrument?
Don't think so.
:lmao: so he is NOT a musician... Go away Kayne :wall:
He can't sing either, as evident on American Idol and SNL. Anytime he attempts a live performance, he struggles. What he can do is write decent songs. Decent, not great. He has never written a 'classic'. Hip hop always seems to have to annoint their own geniuses. Tupac, Biggie, Dre, Jay Z, P Diddy Daddy. etc. None of them are all that talented, really. Certainly more talented than you or I, but not immensely talented.

What's going on in this thread?

People never heard of Taylor Swift?

People never heard of Kanye's music?

You might want to turn off that Steeley Dan music every once in awhile and catch up on current music.
