"No way Jose" is racist now? (1 Viewer)

Sent home? As in removed them from their learning environment for a full day over the shirts they were wearing? FFS. If they had an issue, it would be with you and not the child wearing the shirt, right? Or do they think your children are little racists?

Just make them turn it inside out and send a letter home if they have a problem...

Renege doesn't have the slightest racial overtone. However, I've definitely encountered a few racist douches who say renig just assuming that it does have some kind of racist implication. A lot of idiocy on both sides, but that doesn't mean that there have not been plenty of genuinely unnecessary mean-spirited occasions of people saying renig. That's one that's best to just walk around. See also: not worth the hassle/choose your battles/etc.

We used to call it "renegage" growing up, we added our own twist...

I used renege in a meeting a couple of weeks ago and was told its a racist word.
Are you some kind of reneger?
No, I am not. I actually mentioned that we couldnt renege on our commitments, while in a meeting. I was told that it was a racist and offensive word. Used the word for years and have never heard of such foolishness.
It could be quite #####rdly to renege on a financial commitment.

For a comment to be racist isn't it supposed to be directed at a specific race?

From Wiki

The term "Hispanic" as an ethnonym emerged in the 20th century with the rise of migration of laborers from American Spanish-speaking countries to the United States. Today, the word "Latino" is often used as a synonym for "Hispanic". The definitions of both terms are non-race specific, and include people who consider themselves to be of distinct races (Black, White, Amerindian, Asian, and mixed groups).[136] However, there is a common misconception in the US that Hispanic/Latino is a race[137] or sometimes even that national origins such as Mexican, Cuban, Colombian, Salvadoran, etc. are races. In contrast to "Latino" or "Hispanic", "Anglo" refers to non-Hispanic White Americans or non-Hispanic European Americans, most of whom speak the English language but are not necessarily of English descent.

Imagine their reaction if you described someone as #####rdly.
Wow, really? Just because it sounds similar but means miserly? Filters are harsh.
Think harder.
Nothing to do with the N word. Not even spelled the same. Predates it even.
All true but it sounds soooooo similar to the N word that it should be avoided in conversation (to avoid misunderstanding) and has pretty much fallen into disuse probably for that reason. Perhaps not surprisingly, I still do see it occasionally on conservative message boards when talking about Obama (by posters who always deny any racist intent with their use of the word).

All likely correct yet has nothing to do with the filter.

I think the correct phrase would be 'Indian giver'
I think it is welsher.
Or could it be gypped?
either way, they should be hauled off in a paddy wagon
That's a slippery slope.

This smells like a Timschochet thread. Haven't read any of it yet though... I'm just making an assumption here.

:lmao:

We get one of these every year. Keep fighting the good fight.

All joking aside, what exactly is the racist connotation? I am unfamiliar with the origin, is there something there?

On the surface it seems like the saying "That's the fact Jack" being offensive to people named Jack.

Hey I don't really care...just surprised the word was filtered out. Not spelled the same ("ardly" vs. "er") Not really fighting any fight.

Tim wouldnt say anything remotely offensive. Matter of fact i would be suprised if he actually spoke to anyone in his every day life. I picture him just walking around with this head low out of "shame and guilt"....

Fight Fight a and a white

While I agree people are sometimes too sensitive, I don't have a problem with it. I don't use the term "No way Jose", because I am no longer 12, but if I did and someone said they were offended by it, I would respect that and come up with something else to say... maybe "no way"

No way, Pierre.
