Getting out of jury duty (1 Viewer)

Jury duty…

Think I had 3 notices in my first 5 years of living in Brooklyn - was always dismissed or didn’t have to do my civic duty

Not been called in the last 21 years

Strange but not not complaining

So I ended up being selected as a juror. Trial lasted four days, and was pretty much a no-brainer. Only points of contention were in regard to whether the accused had a reasonable expectation that he was allowed in his ex-girlfriend’s home at the time of the murder, and whether the murder was a “crime of passion” vs malice murder.
We found him guilty on all counts. Found out later that the accused was also a convicted child molester, and shouldn’t have been in the home anyway since there was a minor living there.
Very interesting experience. A huge chunk of time was later explained by the DA as really being procedural to make sure their ducks were in a row for appellate court.
One thing that seemed a little odd was that the DA and the PD made themselves available to us after the trial for questions/critiques. Almost seemed like they needed Yelp reviews, but it was good to get some questions answered that didn’t necessarily have bearing on the case.

The two jury trials I was on, both the DA and defense lawyers made themselves available to the jurors for questions, insights on how we perceived their presentations, and asked for feedback.

Yep. I’ll speak more to it later but this is quite common.
