Norm Macdonald (1 Viewer)

One of the best ever.

I will never forget, "I'll bet 'the Board' is spelled B-O-R-E-D." And the reaction by Conan.

It says a great deal that Letterman, Conan, Howard, Dennis Miller all adored him as a guest. Jerry Seinfeld even made an appearance as a guest on the "Norm Macdonald Live" show.

I think about these two and a half pages from Norm Macdonald’s book constantly. When I reviewed it, I wrote that they would “make for a fine eulogy”—and I swear I didn’t mean anything by it. But they do.

That's freaking great.

Given that everyone is posting the Conan clip with Cortney Thorne-Smith - I'll go one further:

Norm and the Hopeless Cause

Courtney Thorne-Smith in an episode of Norm, playing a lesbian, who Norm tries to hook up with.

(bunch of ads on Daily Motion - but, its kind of crazy this was on ABC prime-time...)

From a 2018 Vulture interview -

I can imagine being on my deathbed and thinking, Why did I waste so many meals on yogurt?
Absolutely. You know, I think about my deathbed a lot.

What do you think about it?
I think I should never have purchased a deathbed in the first place.

Just the best 😂

this one really hurts.  my favorite comedian,  he was always the best guest on Conan, Letterman, Stern, Miller.

best weekend update anchor ever....the oj jokes, michael jackson jokes.....and you guessed it.....

Frank Stallone

Norm was great friends with Bob Uecker, another low key great comedy mind. I can't link at the moment (YT blocked at work) but there's a hilarious segment with Artie Lang on the Stern show where they riff about Uecker stories. They each had a segment on Letterman doing the same shtick. Just brilliant stuff that's actually actually true.

I'm going to see Tom Segura on Friday night. I hope he takes a minute to pay tribute.

I think I can point to Segura as the person who convinced me to abandon some of my old guy athletic endeavors.

watching some youtube videos, heard Dennis Miller compare him a couple of times to Andy Kaufman which feels pretty apt (eg: the roast above).

Norm and Garry Shandling are huge comedy losses for me in the past few years.

Similar styles, and some unexpected humanity from both of them.
i was thinking about Shandling yesterday too.  I think that they both had a great understanding of the subtlety of timing and knew how to get a rhythm that was just slightly off, which creates a lot of the comedy even if you can't explain why.

I know that Shandling talked about practicing that method on stage of just taking a beat and being still for its own sake at different times to create space and keep the delivery fresh and lived-in each time.

Bachelor number one, if I were a popsicle, what would you do to me?

Well first, I’d take off your wrapper…if you know what I mean! Then…I’d grab you by your sticks…if you know what I mean! And then…I’d press you against the counter until you’re broken in two.

The Mangrate reads from his podcast 😂

That summer his podcast debuted, I was pretty fired up to listen.  I'd download each episode, put it on my ipod, and go drive a bucket and chip and putt on the practice green for a while while listening. It was great "me time."

I had to stop after about 4 episodes.  Too much snorting, hacking, dropping my club mid-swing, and generally shaking with laughter.  I was making a fool of myself in front of fellow golfers.  It was...unbecoming.
