Norwood to get more touches (Per Mort) (1 Viewer)

Anyone hear Mort just say to look for Jerious Norwood to get more touches today. Anyone have any other evidence of this? I know some people must be hurting like me with injuries and byes, but possibly starting Norwood based on Mort's throw away comment? Anyone? Bueller?

This is a nice surprise, if true.

Yeah, I heard that too! I'm hurting at RB and I'm currently starting Kevin Jones for my #2 since Portis is on a buy and Brandon Jacobs still isn't playing. I'm looking for any advantage I can get.

Didn't hear that report, but two weeks ago Petrino said he wanted to get Jerious more involved and it didn't happen. With the injuries and byes, I'd love to start him but this sounds too similar to that hollow promise we got before.

I would play Norwood over KJ.

Exactly what I was thinking about. Stupid Mort clogging my decision making.

I hope its true, I think I heard this before last year and he didn't get more than 10 carries. I'll pass this week and hope he crushes and starts next week.

I'm seriously considering starting Norwood over Kenny Watson. I do believe Watson will get a lot of dump off passes, but I don't expect much rushing yds and I don't expect him to get in the end zone. Norwood is more of a boom or bust start, but isn't he due for one of those 62 yd runs for a TD?

Cinci will be forced to throw it early and often. Watson will be valuable for PPR purposes, but I'd much rather Norwood.

Starting Norwood over Dunn. Not expecting much from either, might as well gamble with the all or nothing pick.

I'm in the same situation in my PPR. I'd go with Watson beacuse I think he's guaranteed to get some catches and carries. Norwood, I have no idea. But now with Mort, I'm going to be kicking myself.

I had Dunn in there too but I think I'm switching over to Norwood. We also get points for kick return yardage in our league so I was wavering as it was.

I have the same issue, although it's Norwood, Watson, and Cadillac. I'm going with Watson at the moment because if you look at the play-by-play from last week, the Bengals really tried to get the ball in his hands over those last two drives. Conservatively, I expect about 50 yards on the ground with 5 catches for 30.. good for 13 points, which is what that elusive 60 yard TD will get for Norwood. But who knows, maybe I'll change my mind in the next 30 minutes..

Now I don't know where Mort got his info but it seems like nothing has changed. Looks like the same amount of touches.

Then in the fourth it looks like Norwood's series and looks good. He gets 3 touches and out.

Atlanta Falcons at 14:52

1-10-ATL20 (14:52) J.Norwood up the middle to ATL 21 for 1 yard (M.Williams).

2-9-ATL21 (14:16) (Shotgun) J.Harrington pass short left to J.Norwood pushed ob at ATL 29 for 8 yards (C.Brown).

3-1-ATL29 (13:50) J.Norwood right end pushed ob at ATL 39 for 10 yards (J.Fletcher).

1-10-ATL39 (13:08) J.Harrington pass short middle to W.Dunn to ATL 41 for 2 yards (D.Ryans).

2-8-ATL41 (12:26) W.Dunn left tackle to HST 42 for 17 yards (M.Greenwood).

1-10-HOU42 (11:44) W.Dunn up the middle to HST 39 for 3 yards (A.Weaver).

2-7-HOU39 (10:58) J.Harrington pass incomplete short right to R.White.

3-7-HOU39 (10:51) (Shotgun) J.Harrington pass short left to W.Dunn to HST 33 for 6 yards (M.Greenwood). Atlanta challenged the first down ruling, and the play was REVERSED. (Shotgun) J.Harrington pass short left to W.Dunn to HST 32 for 7 yards (M.Greenwood).

1-10-HOU32 (10:14) J.Harrington pass short left to W.Dunn to HST 31 for 1 yard (D.Robinson).

Field Goal

More Dunn the rest of the series. Norwood gaining yards and then he''s out!

Yes I played Norwood over Dunn.

Anyone watching the game?

Bump

What is the deal here with Norwood?? Everyone was so high on him. He is averaging 4.3/carry to Dunn's 3.4 Neither has done anything this year, but they are as as consistent as it gets... Norwood gets about 30 yards and Dunn 50-60 almost every single game. I guess both are useless but if one got into a rythym, maybe he could be of decent value...

Any thoughts or any recent news going forward here? Norwood was a hot commodity before the season but now no one speaks of him...

Every week we do hear that Norwood is supposed to get more touches, but every week the same result (8 for 30!)

Falcons want Norwood more involved - Thu Oct 4 2:59:00 p.m. MT 2007 (Rotoworld) The Falcons coaching staff reiterated their desire to get Jerious Norwood more involved in the offense Thursday.Impact: Norwood is currently only getting about seven carries a game with a 4.3 YPC average. He has eight catches. The Falcons have said this before and nothing changed, so we'll just have to see if they go through with it this time.

That was last week. Haven't heard anything from this week.

Same thing happened when Lamont Jordan was with the Jets. Every week Herm said he would work Lamont into the game plan more and every week Curtis got 25 carries.

I think it is Dunn's show until we see otherwise.

True story:

Wife drafted Jerious this season.

While parousing last weeks stats she complained "Why in the hell isn't Norwood getting more touches?"

I retorted (mumbling)"Why isn't my wood getting more touches..."

We had a good laugh about that.

Then I cried a little.

:boxing: :banned: Heck, if they keep saying they'll get him more involved then it's bound to come true. Right? Right? I mean, coaches don't say stuff without following through, right?

Considering that they lost their two best linemen for the season and still have Dunn around I wouldn't expect much. Watson, if Rudi doesn't practice, may be a better option.

I'm a big fan of Dunn. I think he's been very underappreciated and one of the most consistent backs you'll ever see. But personally I think it's about time Atlanta gives Norwood a chance to shine. People doubt the kid can be an every-down back. But we won't really know until they try, no? From what I've seen of him, I really like his explosiveness. Give him maybe 60-40 or 70-30 and we'll see him do very well...

I laughed till I cried then called over some buddies at work, they loved it too. Great post.

 Warning: Hot tea through the nostrils does not feel good! But, seeing as that is what happened when I read this, we are now both :lmao: As for Norwood, I am an owner as well and see him as the better back, but until something major happens in Atl I am not expecting much. They just lost Gandy for the year and the QB situation is now a bit muddied; not a recipe for success. Who knows, maybe a few more losses will convince Petrino to go with the youth and look towards the future.

In addition to Gandy (who was put on IR) they also lost Todd Weiner for 2-6 weeks after knee surgery this week. They're being replaced by an undrafted rookie free agent and a second year player. As much as I love the heart that Dunn plays with, I cut himlast night becuase I think it'll be tough sledding for the next few weeks.

I'm not the first to say it, and probably won't be the last, but after last week's running game debacle, I gotta figure that it's this week or never this season, unless Dunn gets hurt.

Incredibly frustrating as a Falcons fan and Norwood owner.

Wait so for there's issues because 'wood is not getting enough touches and now weiner's out for 2-6 weeks? This can't be good for Roddy White.

I opened this thread looking for some optimistic news about Norwood's PT, and scrolled down to this nugget. :lmao: Has to be the funniest thing I've read on these boards. :useless: on the wife playing FF.

We can only hope things start looking up for you :banned: and Norwood.

I would play Norwood over KJ.
Did you know that KJ has scored a TD the 1st two weeks since his return? 3rd week was simply a disaster for th whoel team. His carries are increasing every week, unlike Norwood. MKJs offense is 5x more explosive than Atlanta. KJ is the easy choice to start. I hope to be saying something else later in the year, being a Norwood owner.

Correction, Todd Weiner is only out 2-6 weeks but it still hurts.

I am getting tired of hearing that Norwood is going to become more involved in the offense. BUT, my gut tells me he will earn it Monday night.*

*Maybe because my gut knows I have to start him in one of my leagues.

Petrino is an idiot for not using Norwood more. Tonight is just another example as to why he deserves at least a 3 to 1 advantage in carries over Dunn. This loyalty to the vet thing is getting old. Dunn has stunk up the joint from day 1 this year, and IMO is finished, even if he doesn't think so. How many 60+ yd gains does Norwood have since coming into the league? He's earned the right to show what he can do as a full time starter.

Absolutely. Crumpler and Norwood are the two guys that can make plays on that offense. GET THEM A MINIMUM NUMBER OF TOUCHES. Petrino has to be the most ridiculous offensive coach I've seen in a while...

He is an absolute joke. It's obvious to everyone but him that Norwood is the better option. Yet, Dunn's in there all the time contributing to 3-and-outs time and time again.

Exactly. They know what they have in Dunn, and it's not much. No upside, though probably better blocking. I can understand that you don't want Joey getting killed. However, there are plenty of downs where you can get Norwood in for set plays, screens, and more runs and he's bound to break one. It's like the Bears trying to get Hester more involved. It's getting Adrian Peterson the ball more. These are guys that can change the game with 4 extra touches a game.

Normally, like with the Fred Taylor/Maurice Jones-Drew debate, I side with the coach on these things.

But watching this game tonight........Norwood should be getting the ball much more often than he does. He is THE playmaker on this team and their only hope to win games when playing a high powered offense like the Giants.

I don't know what their exact game plan was, but Harrington to Crumpler/White/Horn/Robinson/etc.etc.etc. is not working. Norwood off tackle is.

it was painful to watch the ATL offense tonite. I thought it was pretty obvious they should've gotten Norwood out in space more with screens type of plays, but nothing they were running seemed to be working very well, just awful...

Wife started Jerious with Santonio on a bye. Had a slim lead over her opponent + Crumpler. Ended up winning her 4th consecutive overall top score in the league. Not that Brady and LT didn't have a hand in it.

Needless to say... it's been harmonious tonight.

In a matter of a week it's gone from  to
