So apparently there is word on social media that tomorrow will be national shoot up your school day?

WTF IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE......  While our school was not targeted this is disgusting and sad.   If my parents found out I posted something like that Im not sure wtf would have happened to me......

I can't believe this is something that many may have to worry about now..... so sad.

I'm not making this political (keep your gun debates to other threads) - I just think its sad this is even something that kids and parents have to worry about....

Yeah, we are dealing with way more emotional issues and bad behavior than ever. It’s definitely f-d and I’m at a pretty well to do school with above average test scores. I hate to see what the “bad” schools are like right now. The pandemic, social media and “politics” have done a number on our kids. 
 

Though it’s the parents to blame. Just some awful parenting from whatever generation it is that has kids in HS/MS now.

Oh that’s happening everywhere. I can think of maybe a dozen schools around here that have had kids arrested for fake threats.

We had 2 bomb threats when I was in hs.  I know those 2 got in huge trouble. We did have a kid commit suicide :(

Senior son finished his last finals yesterday and said "all we're going to do tomorrow is watch movies" in classes that I'm exempt from the final, do I have to go?  I told him yes, as I a single father I try to establish a sense of responsibility in him, but after reading this, he's sleeping in, and showing up for baseball practice at 1pm, then early release.  No need to risk things if we don't have to.

Same email went out here in Central Oregon yesterday.  This is two weeks after one of my son's classmates committed suicide, and one week after a lockdown of the school last week due to a report a student had a gun.  It's not been a fun run.

Got similar email here in Cali - the we are aware of the posts circulating on social media, investigated and no credible threat but out of abundance of caution increased police presence around campuses.

My kids still had finals today so they are at school.

Unfortunately these kinds of threats, and sometimes the more direct ones, are becoming all too common.

I have always advocated for a Constitutional amendment that makes some classification of crimes as ones where those convicted would be stripped of their US citizenship, have their assets seized (if any) and then be immediately deported out of the country forever. No appeals, no second chances, no forgiveness, no negotiations.

Someone wills say that's just some stupid kids being stupid. OK, once people see the first 4-5 grainy videos of formerly Americans begging for mercy as they are being tossed out of the country, then some people will realize how much actual self control that "stupid kids" can actually have.

The reality of the situation is our incarceration system is not built for the random punk making a threat like this to his own school. Our penal system is already too crowded. Our juvenile system is already too crowded.

Once they are no longer citizens, they no longer have the protections of being an American. That washes away a whole ton of other legal issues in play.

Throwing people out is almost always the best remedy. Most of you are homeowners. You've had to work hard and keep working hard to keep what you have. What is the privilege of owing your own home? If someone doesn't appreciate being a guest in your home and can't act in a civil manner, then you can throw them out. Tossing out ungrateful and lousy people is quite American at it's core.

Problem solved.

At my school, I'd say we have about 25% of our junior high out today, with a combination of quarantines due to Covid and parents calling their kids in because of this threat situation.  It's amazing to me that this is the latest viral "trend" to come through TikTok, after earlier ones that prompted school vandalism and assault of teachers, and nothing really seems to be done about it.  Granted, I'm not sure what the answer is without banning all social media.  We had one student removed from school today but I haven't heard what it was for.

A more than fair question.

America is the "World's Bread Basket"  Our country delivers a massive amount of food aid to many parts of the world on a regular basis. Without these shipments, many places around the world would collapse.

Make it part and parcel to any nation accepting food aid from the United States. Simply add cells and temporary lock ups in these shipping vessels and do handoffs in international waters before the vessels reach dock in another country.

Non US citizens being handed off in international waters. Care/Custody/Control are all accounted for and built into existing logistics. Lots of lawyers in the forums, let's see any of them try to unpack this one.

The new "host" nation can decide what to do with these new "refugees"  Some might try to rehabilitate them. Some might use them as labor in exchange for new citizenship. Honestly? In most cases, they'll be executed and tossed overboard out of the sight line of American cameras.

I'm talking career criminals, drug dealers, rapists, burglars, wife beaters and hardened felons. All given trials and all convicted. Would empty out our prisons. I've just given every teacher in America a raise. All that money saved ( it's about 75K a year and growing as the cost to house and secure a prisoner in the United States) can be used to actually help our society function better. How about a new library? An after school martial arts program?

It works. And it sells. I have a hard time seeing most Americans opposing a new library right after a bunch of convicted rapists get the boot. Someone will say no host country will want a bunch of entitled smug  American rapists in their country. They would be right. And they would probably magically disappear before that vessel hit dock in a different country.

Add anyone who threatens to shoot up a school to that list. Give them a trial and if they are convicted, strip them of citizenship and toss them out.  Most of you are parents. Your teenager doesn't want to live by your rules? OK, pay your own bills and get out. See how good you have it here when you realize how cold brutal and dark the world really is out there. This is no different. Don't appreciate being an American? Get out. Don't appreciate being given the opportunity of being a young person in America who can get a real education ( compared to the rest of the entire world and across all of human history, the education that American children receive is incredible ), then get out.

Kids have already been through enough. The pandemic was horrible for young children who are school aged. And the rest of our society is just brutal to them. Social media, the future of their job market, the cost of college, the "Tinder" generation, everyone staring into a little phone and having no social skills, not being sure if they are safe going to the bathroom anymore, and on and on and on.

American children still live better than 98 percent of the entire world and have lived better than nearly all of humanity throughout recorded human history, but this is a bridge too far.  Kids need to socialize and be around other kids. They don't need to think about someone showing up with a firearm and slaughtering them so a few idiots can find a way to cut class or make a joke.

I have close to zero tolerance when it comes to people doing stupid things to risk the harm to children.

Again, most of you are parents. Many of you have made sacrifices and done things you didn't want to do and took risks you didn't want to take and ate crap you didn't want to eat to keep your kids safe. What is the point in this life if your children are not safe?  What is the point in this life if your children don't have opportunity? What is the point in this life if your children have to live in fear?

I didn't understand what the true cost of being a parent was all about until I had to raise a child myself. I didn't understand what it meant to be wiling to die to keep your child safe. I didn't understand what it meant to care about the kind of world that they would inherit. But I care now.

Whatever carnage is needed to keep our children safe, then so be it. Throw the entire world overboard if need be to do it.

I didn't know about this until you guys started this thread. Told my wife who just got back from the gym. She just got a text from her friend that the middle school where both of our kids attend just went into lockdown and the cops are on campus looking for someone. My wife is freaking out and just took off to head to the school to find our kids. This world is nuts.

Something that blew my mind. My kids have have active shooter drills in elementary school. One day my daughter was checking the mail with me and we got some junk mail for life insurance. So that sparked a discussion on the topic, daddy's intro into life insurance 101. A few days later she told me we should get her some life insurance in case she died in a school shooting. A 9 year old having to think that's a possibility.

TikTok claims they take this stuff down but it sure doesn’t seem like it. It’s a Chinese company so not much we can do other than ban it.

I knew nothing of this either.  We did have an ALICE drill the other day, but did not seem unusual as these things are mandated every so often.  Perhaps the reason for doing it this week is because of the OP's topic.  We have exams going on today...still haven't heard of anything outside of this thread.  I hope it stays that way.

This will never fly with any country (off loading our worst criminals).   You would have to find a new "prisoners island" to ship them off to.  I have no doubt most people would be fine with getting rid of these criminals but this is totally unattainable.

To be fair, it's society to blame.  I send my daughter off to jr high daily to be bullied by somebody else's ####head kid.  Not much is really done.  ####head kid gets moved around to bully someone else.  Meanwhile, my kids self esteem takes a hit.  Wash, rinse, repeat......the problem at schools is two-fold.  1) Bad parents send bad kids to school to be ####heads to other kids.

2) Schools don't do enough to address said ####heads.

i think you have to go hard after the kids who do this and their families both criminally and then sue them civilly for the cost of being open an extra day and for the cost of bomb sweeps whatever but just send a message that you do this you go broke that probably ends it or sure as heck gets a lot more parents checking their kids phones and having talks about it take that to the bank brohans

sadly, this country has an us and them mentality, which is good for business but bad for most other things.  like, why not formulate some state or federal laws surrounding schools with zero tolerance.  sometimes in life you get only 1 chance…..if you choose to shoot in a school or on the grounds, bring a gun to school or communicate a threat, the consequences should be dire and life altering IMO.  i don’t care if some dumb 15 yr old plays a prank and has to spend time in juvy, jail or wherever.  parents need to get in on their kids early and let them know, this is not a mistake you want to make.
