For some, nothing has changed so this might not be big news. For others, it may be a bit of a reality check in that Greene will definitely give way more to LT than first thought a few months ago or at the time of LT's signing. Just passing along what I feel is pertinent information.

New York Jets FB Tony Richardson likes how Shonn Greene, LaDainian Tomlinson complement each other

Jets fullback Tony Richardson can sense whether tailback Shonn Greene or LaDainian Tomlinson are taking advantage of the opportunities he provides.

"With Shonn it's bang, bang, bang," Richardson said, "then you bring in LaDainian and it's like a flash."

Tomlinson, an offseason acquisition, and Greene will share carries Monday night in the opener against the Ravens. Greene will be the starter. The pair, with varying styles and ages, will be expected to balance an offense that will rely on the run.

"It will be similar to last year (with the since-released Thomas Jones) where both will get touches and then we'll go with the hot hand," offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said.

Tomlinson has approached his role as an active tutor as well, smiling when he sees Greene implement subtleties in his role as a receiver out of the backfield.

"They've both checked egos at the door," Richardson said. "We're about to see what they can do they together."

MARK IT DOWN

Schottenheimer said Mark Sanchez had "truly one of (his) best days since he's been here" Friday. He also joked that his second-year quarterback probably would not show up for Monday night's game if Pro bowl safety Ed Reed was in the lineup for the Ravens. Rex Ryan, meanwhile, said he would like to see the passing game "dialed in a little more."

SPECIAL GUY

Special teams coordinator Mike Westhoff noted that rookie cornerback Kyle Wilson, an explosive return man while at Boise State, would share time with veteran safety Jim Leonhard on Monday and throughout the season.

Wilson was used on punt returns every day in practice since he has joined the team, but did not make any in a preseason game because coaches did not want to put too much on his plate while filling in for former holdout Darrelle Revis.

ONLY IFFY

Safety Brodney Pool (ankle) was limited in practice, and Ryan said he would be "questionable" for Monday. Only Calvin Pace (foot) is definitely out.

A STINKER

Linebacker Bart Scott dismissed trash talk by Ravens star LB Ray Lewis this week as "part of the show." He also declared Lewis' new commercial for Old Spice deodorant, in which he puts a saddle on a Raven and flies away, was "probably the worst commercial I've ever seen. It looked like some student shot it."

I guess this is what you call RBBC, I think a few teams in the NFL are trying it

This is why Shonn Greene is not worthy of an early second round pick, he will dissapoint those who took him as a RB#1.

I have no problem with this news. Any smart Greene owner made it a point to target LT. Assuming you have a true RB1, starting Shonn at RB2 and LT in the Flex is going to be the winning recipe for a lot of teams this year.

I wonder how much faith we should put into these statements from coaches BEFORE the season even starts. Unless it is absolutely necessary, coaches are very likely to say the thing that keeps both RBs eager and motivated.

Roll with who you drafted for week 1, watch, evaluate and adjust where needed.

If you took Greene as a RB1 ... Get him active!

what is he supposed to say in training camp? " we've decided that no matter how ineffective Shonn green is, we will continually pound the rock with him until he can't go. Then we might gibe LT a touch or two?" This is non news. Of course they are going to play the hot hand (ie the person playing well). Unless you think that Green won't be able to handle those duties (which I do) then this shouldn't really alter your predictions for them at all.

Similar to lat year. Let's compare carries in 2009 when both players were active (Jones listed first, Greene second)

14-0

13-4

13-2

22-1

26-19

27-8

21-7

21-3

25-10

23-11

23-6

19-8

23-16

27-13

296-108 (when both active)

I can live with that as a Greene owenr

I just can't get the images of Green's post-season out of my head watching him run. I'd have to go with him until I actually see LT cut into his production.

im telling you green owners LT's play will continue to force Rex to give him more and more time if you watched lt in the preseason he almost looked like a rb 2 yrs removed from a acl he had his burst back the burst we havent seen in 2 yrs! If thomas jones can put up 1400 yds behind that line i think LT would be a monster there and lets not forget hes probaly the best goalline back in the the NFL!

I think it's the right thing to say. Keeps everyone motivated, doesn't get LT pouting. Coach speak and reality are two different things though. FWIW Ryan already called LT "the best 3rd down back in the league".

This changes nothing in my eyes and if you've been watching and listening this is what the Jets did in preseason. They are going to use LT a the receiver out of the backfield and he'll get a good dose of carries as there will be a lot to go around. He'll have fewer carries than Jones last season but nearly all the receptions. Behind that line he's a good value.

The Jets had an insane number of RB carries last year. I think Greene is still a solid play but in a PPR league, he clearly declines in value. As far as draft value goes, Tomlinson is a steal this year (and I didn't even get him in a single league! :goodposting: ...)

I think that against better run defenses, like the Ravens, LT may get more touches. I just don't see Greene being that effective running between the tackles this week. Maybe that is what I'll call the "hot hand". It's more of a matchup situation.

More than anything, I think that given the Ravens banged up DB's, Sanchez will have to find a way to soften up the middle by making some throws early. That might mean yet another early pik 6. Which Sanchez is going to show up? The one that can hit Keller over the middle early, or throwing the ball into double coverage?

Watching hard knocks I dont think they are slowing down. Their entire gameplan is "run it up their ###!!!"

You need at least one f-bomb in there though.

Honestly, this situation is totally different given the role Washington played before he was hurt. I don't see Greene as a plug n play for TJ's 2009 stats. I do see the carries as being a bit more evenly distributed. I don't think this is huge news, but temper expectations at first, because they will use LT more than some people initially thought.

LT has not been a very good goal line back for several years now. Yes, he's gotten the most carries in the league at the goal line, but his conversion rate has actually been quite a bit below average.
