Obama To Announce Uncostitutional Amnesty (1 Viewer)

I know nothing about this issue:

Can anyone tell me if this has any meaningful and direct impact on my life?
It will not. Illegal immigrants benefit you and every other American by their presence. They lower prices and pay taxes into the system without receiving nearly as many benefits in return as legal citizens. They often strengthen the dollar by sending their money back home. They are, for the most part, much harder workers than ordinary citizens, more law abiding, and in general better Americans because they risked their lives to come here and understand in every fiber of their beings what a great country this is- they appreciate more than many of those who are born here.So giving a portion of them legal status will not affect your life except to help maintain the prosperity these people bring us. Only by forcibly deporting illegal immigrants would your life be affected in a negative manner.
Crossing the border isn't committing a 'real' crime like theft and murder.

You commit a crime every day by speeding, are you not law abiding?
is providing a fake social security # a 'real' crime?
 Thats a one off crime that we can forgive. move along ,nothing to see here

Announcement at 8pm est tonight. Still unclear how far Obama will go. Also unclear hoe far the Republicans will go in response. Should be interesting...

the annual costs of illegal immigration at the federal, state and local level to be about $113 billion; nearly $29 billion at the federal level and $84 billion at the state and local level.

ypu got that from one of those anti immigrant websites (there are dozens of them) and they're very misleading. Illegals represent a net benefit.

More interesting to see how many more Dems further distance themselves from him and his positions.

Also interesting to see how many of the Latino groups that Tim thinks are going to vote for Obama in droves after this announcement, will denounce him for not going far enough.

I bet after this Obama doesn't get even a single Latino vote.

I read the speech. I really don't understand the controversy. But I'm sure the Republicans will be mad.

Hopefully if I commit a crime I can be given a free pass, if I crap out a kid and live here for 5 years. Or does this only work for immigration?

I agree with the plan, not the way it's being done though. But the Republicans have only themselves to blame.

I read the speech. I really don't understand the controversy. But I'm sure the Republicans will be mad.
And a lot of Dems who will have to go back to their constituents and defend this decision.

And a lot of Latino groups who will still call him the "Deporter in Chief" because this plan does not offer amnesty

And the border control agents who have basically been rendered useless because now the rush will be on to come across the border because the message the unwashed masses will get will be come to this country, have kids and you can stay. (that isn't what he said, but that is the message they will hear--remember this summer??)

This is second time you have for spoken for Latinos (I am not certain what makes you an authority on this). I think we should wait and see what the actual reaction is from Latino groups, rather than make assumptions as to how they will respond in the coming days.

so ABC, CBS, and NBC aren't showing it? how the mighty have fallen
November sweeps trumps the president.
The White House didnt ask the networks to air it bc of sweeps.
Not true

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2014/11/20/why-the-networks-arent-giving-president-obama-primetime-real-estate-for-his-immigration-speech/
pretty sad state of affairs

That's fair. I will withhold my judgment as I don't speak for them.

Here is an interesting take from Ruben however http://www.cnn.com/2014/11/20/opinion/navarrette-obama-immigration-announcement/index.html?hpt=hp_t3

By just reading... wtf has this Obama been for five years? Seriously.

If he sounded this decisive (and, honestly, reasoned and reasonable even if you disagree) -strong yet not total lefty while taking control of the tone of this conversation - it would have been a vastly different first term.

Righties should be happy that he's been a pandering and at times pathetic mush instead of a middle of the road (left middle, granted) guy who clearly puts out both a course of action and the rationale for pursuing it.

so...

1. Did he in any way come across like this?

2. I still have concerns about Pres. overreach, however this is a pretty well laid out rationale.

3. Popcorn's ready.

so you are saying the White House cares more about the networks ratings than getting their important policy message to the American people???
No, dim bulb, I am saying that the White House said that they did not ask the networks to air the speech. They gave sweeps as a reason why they didnt ask. I dont personally care why they didnt ask, but they publicly said they didnt ask. Why do you care?
ouch :lmao: if the message was important, it should be heard, no?

I think this was orchestrated by the Obama team (which is even more sad).

Its not as if his communications staff wouldnt know that you dont ask for an uber prime time spot for this controversial and divisive an issue. Do it anyway, blame the networks for turning you down. You reach the population you need to engage the most and energize a voting block that could see far higher turnout than before. Meanwhile there is no central speech and therefore no televised Republican rebuttal. The conversation becomes as muted as I could imagine for such a wide spreading change of enforcement policy.

The thought of an orchestrated non major TV event disgusts me, because its hard not to believe this was the thought process. But schrewd none-the-less.

I deleted that post because I really dont care about this issue. But below is the type of report I was referring to, while reality is somewhere in the middle with the White House apparently getting an informal turndown from the networks so they didnt make a formal request for network time tonight (although CBS is airing it at 8 pm on the West Coast, I think). But again, I dont care whether the networks air it or not, or why. The third link insists that the reason is that the intended audience isnt the general American populace. I dont know if that is true or not.

Two of the networks said the White House didn’t ask for air time for the speech.

I guess people here don't realize how much $$$ crosses that border everyday. It sure made the Bushies rich.

There is more $$ crossing the US/Mexican border than it does the Canadian.

BUT LET'S SEAL IT!

Over at Free Republic, they're going absolutely bat #### crazy. A sampling:

This socialist dictator Obama just declared war against the American people , bringing in a foreign army to take away Americans’ jobs including 500,000 foreign technology workers now living in India and China(look it up). I hate Obama more than anything

if all of us had the bravery this man had that stood up to thousands of chinese tanks then we'd be out on the streets protesting until the marxist dictator Obama resigns and we would win:

Americans have been painted into a corner by Barack Obama and his pigmentation immunity.

It’s up to us to make the invaders leave. See an illegal? Make their life hell, make sure they know they do not belong here, and the only reason we’re not dragging their asses to the border ourselves is that they are under the protection of the fake president, Barack-E-Cheese.

We really need to deport the emperor first. Send his goatsmellin’ @$$ back to Kenya or Indonesia or wherever the hell he crawled out of.

Freepers are typiKally KooKs.

Pigmentation immunity? Is that like being the Black Teflon President, only where your blackness is the teflon?

Didn't Reagan do this?
Yes, but Republicans want to think because it is Obama doing it, that it is not the same! Also President Bush has done it as well, but they were Republicans so it was ok!
I believe those guys signed a bill passed by congress while Obama is acting unilaterally...that is a huge difference...
Reagan and Bush acted when Congress did not pass a law.
