To finally own something that might actually turn a profit one day?So does anyone understand why Facebook spent $2B on this?
DammitFacebook happened.Wut happened?
I guess my question is what are they going to do with it? Interactive News Feeds with ads?To finally own something that might actually turn a profit one day?So does anyone understand why Facebook spent $2B on this?![]()
Doesn't seem to fit with their current business plan of buying overvalued companies that don't make anything.

Like with their other acquisitions, they are probably planning on it operating on its current trajectory for now. Of course, the very nature of who is buying Oculus will likely stunt its growth as it loses the support of the development and gaming communities.I guess my question is what are they going to do with it? And now Facebook can let your friends know what you're masturbating to!These would be awesome if I never wanted to have sex again.
Well this was supposed to be used for gaming, not general surveillanceWhen people are walking around with these, at least we will know who the morons are. Whatever happened to that google glass stupidity?
Maybe they can implant this into people's eyeballs.
Unlike Google Glass, these things are meant to be worn in your parents basement. Google Glass is intended for practical purposes, but I am sure developers will make games as well. When people are walking around with these, at least we will know who the morons are. Google Glass actually has tons of potential. For example, they could replace GoPro cameras, and be used by our troops.
I dont want to sound like a hater, but all he did was make existing virtual reality better. With hd graphics, 3d, and increased processing power, it was inevitable.I think the kid that started the company is 21...sick.
Agreed. But I am sure the final-ish iterations will be built on the current software/hardware.I dont want to sound like a hater, but all he did was make existing virtual reality better. The thing is that these things are still a few years away from being mass produced, and by then its going to be 3 year old technology. There will undoubtedly be a newer version, or competing products to deal with. I'm still skeptical about it. Everything we have heard about 3D the past 5 years is that the goal is to not need glasses. This thing looks cool, but it's a step backwards IMO. It's a niche product that would be hard to sell to the masses.
That's the only thing that would make sense for Facebook is if they made a Google Glass competitor. But knowing Facebook, they'll find a way to royally screw it up. I can see it now, you're wearing Facebook Glass and it shows your random strangers FB profiles. That'll be fun...Agreed. Eventually we will get some kind of Google glass/OR hybrid.
To be fair I am terrible at remembering names so I would find that useful. That's the only thing that would make sense for Facebook is if they made a Google Glass competitor.
