A medley of covers performed by Dutch session musicians to a metronomic 120 bpm clap track was an unlikely global smash in 1981. It's mostly made up of Beatles songs so it was a nice bit of dosh for whomever controlled Northern Songs at the time.

Stars on 45 kicked off a short-lived fad of Pop medleys including one by the Beatles themselves and a tribute/parody by Weird Al Yankovic.

15.ee - It's It (Frozen Novelty)

I picked this local favorite in Foodapalooza and copied most of my write-up from there.

It's Its belong to the ice cream sandwich genus but are a different species. They're chocolate-dipped ice cream sandwiches made with oatmeal cookies. They were originally produced at the old Playland By The Beach amusement park in San Francisco in 1928. For my second Orson Welles reference of the draft, Playland was the scene of the hall of mirrors shootout in The Lady From Shanghai.

Playland was closed about a decade before I arrived in SF so the It's It and Laughing Sal at the wharf are all that remain. I romanticize them a bit as a culinary link between the SF of my mother's time and the present day. Anybody who's spent time in the Bay Area has probably eaten one at some point. They are legitimately delicious--the oatmeal cookies are a huge improvement over the typical gummy slab of wafer in a regular ice cream sandwich.
