I started this poll for 2 reasons:

1. Simple curiosity of the numbers of people (percentage, I guess) that have actually *seen* the top-flight players play this past season.

2. The "deeper" reason of getting an idea of why there are SO many people who are SO vociferous in their pimping up of or tearing down of the people in this draft without having seen them actually play .

Everything I write is just hearsay.

Never met any of the prospects.

I'm just curious:

Why it matters for 1st rounders only?

Television count?

Live only?

Actually break down footage?

Get paid to do any of the above?

PS - you are on a fantasy football website, not a scouting football website. Big difference in fan base. Mostly just opinion based conjecture.

i assume quite a few "regulars" here are like me - they know the college players that are ranked high during the season and attempt to watch them play if possible

i voted 25-26 of the 1st rounders myself. only a few i have not watched (or don't recall watching...which is basically the same thing imo) even if it was just in the bowl games. getting to actually see some of these guys play helps when you read some of the same things about multiple players or read identical measurables

Are you including "seen" as saw on the tube or not? If you are then, I see your point as I've probably only seen about half of them. I can't spend all day Saturday and Sunday watching games when I have a family. I've decided to focus on the NFL, not as much on college football.

27-32 of them.

I have seen all of these guys play in at least 2 games:

Bush, Leinert, White, Justice, Bing... any more USC guys that may go 1st?

Young, Huff, Wright

Ferguson

M.Williams, Lawson

Hawk, Youboty, Carpenter, Holmes, Mangold, Whitner

J.Williams, Tapp, J.Lewis

V.Davis, D.Jackson

Winbley, Sims, Bunkley, Cromartie (once), Nicholson

Cutler

D.Williams

Greenway, Hodge

T.Hill (once)

C.Jackson

J.Josheph

J.Allen

Kiwanuka

Maroney

S.Moss, Winston, McIntosh, Jennings, Harris

Ryans

Pope, Jean Gilles

Wroten

Hali

I'm fairly certain that this group of players will make up 27-32 of the top 32 picks in the draft.

You just reminded me that I intended to do a how many game of college football a season do you watch poll for the same reason. Sometimes it obvious from some of my fellow posters comments that they have not watched much college football. I started to do a spin off, but I will let this one run its course instead.

Unless a guy goes to a 1-AA or lower school, I have seen them play at least once over time. I watch probably 5 college games from start to finish per week. this year i watched from start to finish like 18-20 of the bowl games and the others at least watched parts of.

My wife got me the ESPN Game plan for my birthday last year, so I saw alot more games and teams than I normally do.

I dont sit and watch many college games from start to finish. Mostly because on Saturday's I can usually get 2-3 games going at one time. I will watch anywhere from 6-10 games on Saturday's and all of the Tuesday, Thursday and Friday night games so at least 10 games a week. I have seen every one of the prospective first rounders play.

Live? none. I missed out on going to the TX/KU game

On TV? Virtually all of them who played in a bowl. During the regular season, all Big XII players (not too many 1st rounders) all Buckeyes and Wolverines, Greenway, Maroney, probably more, but these stand out.

I have seen clips and breakdowns of almost every 1st rounder, especially the big names. If you have NFL network, it has been non stop draft prospect scouting for months now, even Playbook is about the draft. I would say 5 years ago people were just going off of what they heard and read and not what they saw but now, in the age of ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNews, NFL Network, etc, the coverage of the prospects is out there. Just this weekend ESPN had a 2 hour draft special and I saw footage highlights and lowlights of almost every player in the top two rouds.

I follow college football closer than the NFL. If they played Division one or 1-AA I had a pretty good chance of seeing them play just by the volume of games I watch. I wasn't always looking at the specific pick, but I know something about them one way or another.

Like I'd bet more than half of this board and possibly up to 80 percent did not see a Jay Cutler college game and then compare him to Leinhart. I've seen Cutler three or four times and he has tremendous game skills.

Question for the massses here

when you have seen these guys teams play, have you specifically watched what the individual player is out there doing?

or is just noticing them on the field good enough?

when at the OSU v. Iowa game earlier this year i made it a point to watch the LB play on both sides of the ball, was more impreesed with Hodge than Greenway

I almost always try to specifically watch running backs when I watch games because that is the position I am most interested in. For other positions, I'm usually just making mental notes as they play, although I did watch Sims in particular while watching the Orange Bowl.

:goodposting: I'm a huge Hawkeye fan. I've seen Greenway play live 15 times or so. I would not draft Greenway in the first round. He's fast, he's athletic and he's active. But he doesn't get off blocks very well and he'll never be a great run stuffer. No teams ever game planned to avoid him. He'd be better off being converted to a pass rushing OLB (but he never really did that at Iowa). Hodge is more physical. His game is better suited to the NFL.

Depends on the teams and the game that I was watching. The only reason I even watched Memphis play for instance, was to see D.Williams. Same with Clemson and T.Hill. For other teams and the much larger schools, I really just watched the games. If you follow college football though you will see the major schools enough to notice guys that stand out and you will inevitably find yourself keying in of guys a lot. Especially the ones you know will be playing at the next level.

Seen the 6 buckeyes play every game of there career. (Most at game)

Seen enough of USC to warrent them being seen more then enough.

Ater that I must admit I relay on the experts.

I did catch D. Williams in the bowl game to see what all the hype was.

And was far more impressed more so then EITHER USC back!

I still say Bush is so over hyped it's pafetic. Bush/White = the next Archie Griffen,/Curtin Enis. lol

I gave 13/14 a vote. I am sure I have seen more then that but not as to analyse as a fantasy pro player or as to see where they fit in as a pro.
